'20 JUCO DE Jordan Davis (Mississippi State commit)

Just a devil's advocate view here, but what if this is a situation in which many on here complain about. What if Mom is saying "no" because he's already committed (given his word) to a coach. She may have told him once that happens, it's over. In other words, honoring the definition of the word "committed."

Just a thought.

What's ironic here is the mom evidently wants him to make sure and see other places before he commits yet it appears she didn't have that same outlook when he committed to Alabama.

She never told him any of this so you're speculating. Furthermore you don't know her finances or if she even has the ability to line up the logistics to get o Knoxville. She told him to wait until the visit wore off and then make a rational decision. After all that he decided that the opportunity at Bama was better right now which is why Jesse, Brent, and ither said slim to none on the %. Everyone doesn't allow their kid t mk an impulse decision they could regret.

If he hasn't taken an official yet,
She wouldn't have much financial responsibility at all. Also, if she could make it to bama with him, I don't blame finances. In the world of recruiting we live in now, if colleges want a kid they'll find a way to get anyone there to visit. Family included.

I rarely post and can't speak on behalf of the Davis' or any other family, but I can speak on committing to a college from a parent's perspective. My youngest daughter is a golfer (a pretty good one if I can brag just a little) and will be entering her senior year of high school this fall... Golf recruiting starts and ends a lot sooner than football due to limited spots (only 6 scholarships total per NCAA, which boils down to 1-2 maybe 3 if you can find a school looking to sign that many). I didn't pick the school for her, but we had a gazillion discussions about the various schools and which fit her best. Finally, after visiting several D1 and D2 schools, my daughter decided she wanted to commit this past Christmas (middle of her junior year of HS). I had only one requirement of her...and that was when she "committed" to a school and a coach that meant that's where she would go to college. No going back on her word unless the circumstances at that particular school changed...period. Now, she's had zero regrets about her choice, but it's sometimes hard for her to respond to another coach or school and tell them she isn't interested...even if she might be intrigued.

Good for you. Seriously. Don't see a lot of integrity like that in the recruiting world these days.

Best of luck to your daughter.

I don't think it's common in other sports to switch like they do in football and basketball

I think you're probably right, but it was important to me that my daughter stay true to her word, her commitment. There is a risk there, though, in that an offer from a school cannot be in writing until November of the athlete's senior year (based on what I understand) so both commitments--from the athlete to the school and visa versa--have to be based on one another's word. If her chosen school decided to "recruit over" her or change her offer, then we would be up poop creek. That's where the relationships and having involved parents (in my opinion) are really important in the recruiting process.

I'm not judging or saying Mrs. Davis is right or wrong...I'm not in her shoes and I won't even take a stab at guessing about her decision making process. All I can say is that BEFORE my daughter committed, I would've went to any school in the country, except one, that she wanted to see. Fortunately, she didn't want to be more than 3 hours from her momma! Lol...

The one school I wouldn't visit you ask? Well, at the beginning of our recruiting process I told her swing coach there was only one school that we would not entertain an offer from... Yep, you guessed it...Bama. Wasn't happening no matter what I had to pay for her education!! Didn't matter though...I'm not even sure they knew we existed.

I hate the tide with tremendous passion, but several years ago my daughter received an invite to an Alabama soccer camp and I was pumped about her opportunity!! It's the nature of being a proud parent. My kids have seen me in nothing other than Tennessee Big Orange, but if I had a son with an offer to play for bama at the present time, I would be extremely proud and couldn't imagine trying to pressure him into going to play for "my team" instead. With that said, I would be the a$$hole sitting in Bryant Denny every Saturday, decked out in orange!!! 😄

I never said I pressured her to go to "my team"....although we had some minor interest from "my team." All I said was that she was NOT going to visit or entertain a Bama offer. She chose her school...with what I consider appropriate counsel from her parents, and it wasn't the school I would have chosen for her. As many on this site have said...it needs to be this "kid's" choice but with guidance from their parents. She chose a school that she feels fits her best, but it wasn't my first choice; a good choice but my not favorite choice.

You should be ashamed. No God fearing Vol fan would ever speak such words. You are a failure of a parent and I will pray for you tonight that your tormented and sick soul repents and is saved.

As the Volnation choir hums, "Just As I Am" in the background. With every head bowed and every eye closed.

Yes sir i watched thisnyr in and yr out. I mean the relationship b/w Peyton and family andthe Haslems isn't jist because he did well and was qb at UT, LOL. Why Dane works where he works. Guys we had are getting old but still have the ability to do it.

Once Peyton and Archie met Coach Cut, it was all over.

Archie told Ole Miss that he wanted Coach Cut to coach Eli too. That is how Coach Cut became the HC there...otherwise Eli would have come to Tennessee too.

The Manning family has such a high moral standard, no way was there remotely a bagman.
Please tell me that isn't what you insinuated.

What's really going on at Alabama? Looking at crystal balls they don't have a chance at anybody better than the number 36 overall player in the nation. I wonder if kiffin left a mess there

I just left there this past wknd and they had a plethora of top 150 guys on campus for NSFC. I promise I've not seen that much talent on a campus at 1x since Kiffin camp at UT. Bama will be fine and know Nick always closes well. Remember ppl thought CJM wasn't going to do well last yr and they cleaned up late. No need to panic over recruiting at this point in time. Real recruiting is done Sept- Feb when the proof comes out of the pudding. Not just during shorts and t-shirt season.

Bama is just trying to decide which 5 Stars they want and which ones they have to let go elsewhere.:)
