JG vs Harrison Bailey

Lawerence is a once in a decade type QB. That's why he can in and took the job. Harrison is good, but not Lawerence good. Lawerence threw for like 11 or 12k yds while in HS. We'll be fine with Bailey.

Lawerence also played in an easier division than Bailey does. If Bailey played at Cartersville, I would be willing to bet his numbers would be on par with what TLs were. Watson was a once in a decade QB as well. When your team is stacked with talent, it’s pretty easy to look spectacular. Heck, AJ McCarron looked like a stud playing at Bama.

How about doing something that no QB since Martin has done?

You seem to have taken that comment in "the feels" and probably didn't need to.

Most QBs that are called game managers typically have mediocre to bad individual stats, and yet still the team manages to win games.

Thats not really JG's performance in 2018.

Hmmm, so obviously you didn’t think before you typed. So the QB can be bad but the TEAM still wins. You are right, JG doesn’t have that luxury. When he plays bad, our team was nowhere near good enough to pick up the slack.

Harrison looked really good to me in the game Thursday night. He reminds me a lot of Peyton Manning the way it sets up in the pocket. He even has those "happy feet" which people complained about Peyton. But as we all know it didn't hurt but helped Peyton.

I think he is going to be a really good QB for the Vols. Really Good.!!

You seem to be personalizing this for some reason. Where did I mention bad play? Other than listing that game manager QBs don't typically have "good" individual stats?

He only had 12 touchdowns, but only threw 3 interceptions.. He completed over 60% of his passes and only surpassed 200 yards twice. That's as "game manager" as it gets.

If JG was any less a game manager for Vols last season they would have been 3-9

Can someone please tell me the difference between high school game speed, and SEC game speed, and then why we expect a high school kid to unseat a 3 year starter that will actually have a decent OLine by next year?
Trevor Lawrence, a true freshman, unseated Kelly Bryant, an embedded, winning, game manager.

For comparison, looked up Senior high school stats for: Trevor Lawrence, Jarrett Guarantano, Brian Maurer, JT Shrout, and Harrison Bailey as a Junior.

Playing in Georgia: TL in 12 games, 3290 passing yds., 41 tds., 1 int.

Playing in New Jersey: JG in 10 games, 1481 passing yds., 11 tds., 3 int.

Playing in FL: BM in 10 games, 3572 passing yds., 34 tds., 12 int.

Playing in CA: JTS in 12 games, 3064 passing yds., 27 tds., 25 int.

Playing in GA (as a Junior): HB in 9 games, 2809 passing yds., 29 tds., 6 int.

One has never passed for many yards or scored many touchdowns, and that was against New Jersey competition.
Im looking at this comparison and it only makes me wonder why BM is overlooked by the fan base. He’s the only one of the 5 that played on a bad team without a single other player with as much as a single star. He also accounted for 6 more rushing tds bringing his total to 40 in only 10 games. Outside of TL no one has touched that.
I see people comparing the level of competition and I feel the need to remind some that when a team is overmatched and overpowered in every phase/position on a weekly basis the level of competition is equal to ourselves playing Alabama every single week regardless of team rank. Overmatched is overmatched and If you watched the Marietta game last night you seen what overmatched looks like. Also playing in a state like Florida, some may be selling the competition short to begin with. It’s a much faster and physical game down there than it is here in Georgia.

The team would’ve won games if we didn’t suck

Totally agree. Brian Maurer in 10 games had more passing yards than Trevor Lawrence had in 12 games in their Senior season of high school. 2 more games by Maurer would probably have matched Lawrence’s touchdown total, and Florida competition is tough.

With no running game unlike TL so he was throwing into tighter coverage along with opposing defenses knowing he was his teams only player. The fact that he was the single player that was game planned against and they still couldn’t stop him speaks volumes to his individual skill set that no one else on that list can match.

The craziest Brian Maurer stat is that he led his offense to a 67 point game and the team still lost 67-77! That's how bad of a team he played on!

Dude was a 1-man offense. In that game (see the box score here), he ran for more yards that all the other running backs on his team and 72% of all plays involved him (either passing or running). He threw for 513 yards. Absolutely insane that the other team could win that game, but he played for a historically weak program (West Port was 5-25 the 3 years before he started).

Sorry, the only one on the list he has more skills than is Shrout.

So is JG faster? Better pocket awareness? Stronger arm? Accuracy? How about HB. Same questions. Idk about JGs arm strength but I do know BM has a stronger arm than HB (long toss BM 65. HB 58)
Neither have BETTER pocket awareness but HB may be equal. Neither hold a candle to his speed. And his stats say he’s every bit as accurate plus some. So please.... explain how he’s the 3rd most TALENTED.

Some schools can get to the College Football Playoff with a game manager at quarterback: Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida State. They can recruit at such a level that allows them to dominate the trenches and control the game. Other schools can't do that: Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, TCU, Michigan State, Tennessee, etc. These schools need a playmaker at quarterback to compete at the highest level.

I think it's safe to say JG is a game manager, which I think will serve him well as an NFL prospect, but Tennessee needs a playmaker at the position. That brings me to Harrison Bailey. Before yesterday, I had JG penciled in as the starter for the next two years but after watching Bailey last nigh, I'm not so sure. This kid is legit. He's got elite arm talent, excellent pocket presence, and is very accurate even when throwing on the run. No doubt he's good enough to make Tennessee nationally relevant again, but is he good enough to unseat JG as the starter next year? I'm thinking it's going to be a battle...

I don’t know for sure either. But holy.... here he comes like a bull riding lightning bolts burning unwatered shrubs and kicking midgets!!!! Yessss!!! We win!!!

I was there at that game. And he started that game with a pick 6 early in the 1st. He went on to score 6 total tds (3 passing and 3 running). People want to harp on his ints without the understanding of what he was playing with. The kid AVERAGED like 360 yards a game passing. Not including his running abilities and still completed at a percentage comparable to TL and HB against odds neither of them have ever seen. His defense averaging 45 points a game given up should at least be an indication

Comment 146 was meant for you. Don’t know why it didn’t “quote”
