Jeremy Banks needs to be dismissed

No matter one’s opinion about the Banks arrest - or his reaction to it - we cannot have a coach who responds in this way. This isn’t an issue about the players. It’s about the head football coach’s reaction to their behavior.

Pruitt should be ashamed of how he spoke to that officer and Fulmer needs to hold him accountable.

We now have three players still on the team who either fought police, threatened to shoot them, or who threatened to shoot up the university. Based on Pruitt’s RECORDED commentary with that officer, I can’t imagine why these players felt so comfortable acting the way they did.

I’m sorry, but I can’t envision a scenario in which Pruitt survives the inevitable onslaught coming his way from this video and his ineptitude as our coach.

My question is, if we were winning games would this be as big an issue as some are making it? My guess is no

Not at all condoning the comments he made, that was ignorant and in poor taste but this is really a non story IMO

He should work with the police about 100 hours and run to Memphis and back! Maybe they will fix stupid!

Maybe not where your from. But in most places I lived years ago, most people respected law enforcement officers (certainly not all the folks one might be arresting.....but the general public did & and they had more support with community leaders and media).
Certainly not everyone, but most people did.

The law enforcement officer (job) also used to be a very respectable job.......it’s not that highly regarded anymore.

Those things probably go hand in hand. Less respect -> less prestige -> lower quality -> less respect It's a vicious cycle and the only way to stop it is to raise salaries, standards, and transparency/accountability all together. Also gotta get rid of the toxic us/them language both from within the departments and from society at large. I think the first step to that is improving salaries and raising expectations though.

Remember, Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, unless he is convicted of a crime (and a serious crime), he should remain a Vol! Yes sir, and we should rally around him, and try to show him as much support as we can. I mean who amongst us, hasn't said stuff like that to cops? Maybe he had a little "tiff" with one of his girls friends, this would explain it.

I have never been disrespectful to a law officer when pulled over. I was guilty and knew I was guilty, so it was yes sir. But with this said, I don't think he should be booted off the team though, however, some type of discipline should be done.

Freak,

I know you got to keep this tight and right......but there was one post I wish you would have left on here for eternity.......but I will not repeat what the poster was saying.

This, in combination with Bryce Thompson, in combination with Kenneth George still being on the team after throwing a punch at a cop, means that some of y’all defending all this probably need to sit out the discussion next time one of your rivals has a kid get into trouble.

I’ve said it before, it’s never wise to pass judgement on any program that has players getting into legal trouble because it’s just a matter of time before whatever program you follow has their own issues. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it is. Personally, I like to see kids like Banks (and others) get second chances. Maybe more troubling than Banks’ comments are the buffoonish comments attributed to Pruitt. Good grief, he’s about as unpolished as you can get. And “unpolished” is being kind.

In this case, as with all cases, you entrust the coaches and administration to do the right thing as they see fit.

I agree

Law enforcement should be held to a very high standard........and when they are at that high standard, they should be respected.

Much of the change has come with the changing of media. Personal media is huge and many people can see, say 10 bad “police” instances over the course of a few months or so. Then by seeing and hearing about it, they perceive “all” or “most” police to be that way. But they never hear of the 10’s of thousands of “police” incidents which go correctly and which provide true justice.

Plus we always have to be careful not to lump “all” into the same category of what a “few” may do.

The crooks definitely know where the police are and are not handcuffed by politics. People, particularly kids, will do things in Nashville that they would never try in some of the suburban counties. It's sadly cynical to say, but the level of protection that you can expect from your local police depends a lot on how much your local politicians need the votes of certain demographic groups.

How did he not know his license was already suspended? Apparently he was also pulled over in July and charged with driving on a suspended license.

"I can get your hair done for free because I'm Jeremy Banks!"
"FU Axon (the camera), you a p**** a** b**** too!"

The whole video is worth watching, they didn't even use the best quotes in the stories circulating.

It’s the culture we live in and a cross-section of society in CFB. Kicking the guys off the team won’t change it. But Banks should be suspended for a couple of games to learn from it.

For being a dipsh/t about a suspended license.

The cop clearly stated that he had discretion for the suspended license (implying that he might give Banks a break) but he had no choice because Banks had a warrant which is true. LEOs aren’t allowed to ignore warrants in their geographic limits that are issued by a judge.

Bottom line is Banks shouldn’t have made an illegal U-turn or been driving on a suspended license regardless of the time of day. We live in a culture where no one wants to be held responsible for their actions. The cop is the last in the line of people to blame for this incident. The cop could have towed his car if he really wanted to be a jerk and actually gave Banks a break by allowing a friend to park it legally.

It's on TMZ sports. Regardless of your opinion, that is going to blow it completely out of proportion.

"Pruitt told the officer that he was aware of the traffic ticket and had a state trooper walk Banks through the process of paying it off since Banks had no one at home to help him with legal issues." You need someone to explain to you how to pay a ticket? Okay ! Nice car ;)

My one serious post a year post:
After watching and listening to both videos, I honestly don’t understand how anyone can support this coach. I have not been one of the guys calling for Pruitt to be fired. Quite the opposite, in fact. But Pruitt’s behavior and sense of entitlement are completely out of line with what we should expect.

I’m more disturbed by Pruitt’s recording than I am of Banks’ recording. Pruitt is a forty something year old grown man that gets paid millions. Banks is young and dumb. Banks thinks this kind of stuff is ok because of his role models. Pruitt is now that role model and he showed Banks that he should receive preferential treatment based on his ability to play football.

But in the end, they both should be considered an embarrassment to the university and shown the door. I would rather cheer for a losing football team than have UT represented by these kinds of folks.

Even if you’re one of the guys that hates law enforcement, surely you’re not ok with the way they (Pruitt and Banks) were acting.

Thank you for reading my TedTalk.

I was watching a popular vols football talk show and it was said that CJP needs more thugs on the team.
Only at Tennessee....you finally get a sorry-arse, punk ass Memphis thug who talks about shooting cops in the back of a cop car, and threatens a female cop that he’ll “see her around campus” (we all know EXACTLY what that means), talks all kinds of ish about how Pruitt will ban them from the stadium, etc, etc, etc.......,.and he ain’t worth an ISH on the field playing football, which is the ONLY reason he’s on a college campus. If we’re start signing these punk ass thugs again, can we at least get ones that can play football?

Yep, ONLY at Tennessee.

Question, and I’m not blaming the media here, but why do they only go get videos of UT players. I mean they use a FOI to get these videos from the police. Seems like if they really want to report the news we would have some really entertaining videos to watch every night. Ok move along, just my passing thought.
