Jeff Lebby - OC

Past 3 ADs and 3 coaching hires prior to heupel has us in the position we are in now. Based off state of this program it's a good hire for now

Well in a few years, in your self defeating proclamation you can update it to past 4 ADs and 4 coaching hires. How long will you allow them to lie to you? Want to make it 5, 6, 7? They can go as long as most of you continue to buy it. No skin off their phallus. They are getting rich cashing SEC checks and throwing the fans a scrap low budget hire to fight over.

I think you give discreet groups of people too much credit for being able to keep secrets in operations involving dozens, nay, hundreds of people.

I’m guessing that’s a theme with you?

This is how criminal conspiracies fall apart all the time.

This isn't a large scale criminal conspiracy. Good grief. Obviously you dont understand how this works.

Tennessee is a sleeping giant. It’s like most of you have forgotten what we used to be. We have top 5 facilities, huge recruiting budget, an incredible football stadium, literally everything you need except a big time coach. So we can be “the big one” if we hired the right guy. But we continue to shoot our selves in the foot. You’ll see.

Seriously asking here, as I was a little young when this happened.... But was Fulmer a "big time coach" when he took over?

Doesn’t change the fact UCF regressed under JH
Did they really regress though? Or did they just fall back in line with the mean? UCF is not a destination job for any coach or AD. There is going to be constant ebb and flow of success at a place like that because high-level success isn't sustainable. Look at their last 10 seasons...

2011 - 5-7
2012 - 10-4
2013 - 12-1
2014 - 9-4
2015 - 0-12
------‐-‐----------
2016 - 6-7
2017 - 13-0
-------------------
2018 - 12-1
2019 - 10-3
2020 - 6-4

Some pretty volatile swings in there with an average of 4.3 losses per year.

I'm not defending the hire as I'm pretty upset with it, myself, but the argument that he's regressed every year is just a lazy one, IMO. He followed up a 13-0 season under Scott Frost with a 12-1 season. Even that is technically a regression. Then he goes 10-3 to finish his 2nd year at 22-4 as a head coach. No one is going to sustain that kind of success with any consistency at UCF, and no coach with any sense will stick around long enough to try because they know it isn't likely to happen. The kind of players it would take don't go to schools like Central Florida, and the kind of coaches that can land them move on to bigger and better things.

Tennessee probably pulled the trigger a little early because Fulmer was becoming a guy other teams would come after.

Do you understand the purpose of Grumors in the previous 2 coaching searches?

Well, it was either to set us all up for disappointment, to provide cover for the actual coaching search, or because Gru actually had interest but a deal couldn’t get done because he came to his senses that the Legion of the Miserable always succeeds in stirring up a sh*tstorm.

Our program is dead for good now
This is what is funny to me. Hugh Freeze wrecks Ole Miss. Ole Miss gets in major trouble. Matt Luke becomes the Head Coach while they are on probation. He had a 6-18 record in the SEC.

Pruitt...the worst coach in our history inherited a train wreck from Butch. He goes 10-16 in the SEC in 3 years with playing an all SEC season. Now we are in trouble but still have talent on our team.

Both teams were complete disaster cases in both respects at the same time.

They hire mighty Kiffin who has to build their roster back up. We hire Heupel who still has solid talent at the skilled positions on offense and a veteran QB that is a legit dual threat with a solid strong arm. Thanks to some solid recruiting on that side by the previous staff.

So we hire Heupel that beat the brakes off of Kiffin twice...and somehow our program is done forever while Ole Miss is on the rise? The one thing Heupel has done consistently is have high powered offenses.

It ain’t the big name splash rock star hire. I hate it too. Get this man some defensive staff and let’s score some points. Come off the ledge a little bit.

And I don’t like the hire bc he’s gotten worse every year as more of Scott frosts recruits have left. I live in Orlando, believe me, UCF fans are thrilled we took him off their hands and that tells you everything
I believe I remember you wanting Matt Campbell? He dropped off at Iowa and Toledo 3 or four years in.
I thought I read that Heupel brought in the highest ranked class ever at UCF this past year.
I’m not just plumb giddy over this hire but I haven’t seen much evidence that Campbell would have been much better

It is hard to imagine why an OC would leave the staff of the HC that UT wanted, to be OC for the HC UT settled for.

Was definitely considered a rising star and with the 3-0 start as interim his stock was rising fast to the point where he would have been given an opportunity to become a HC sooner rather than later . IIRC his name was being linked to the Arkansas job. I had not quite reached my teens but was fully engaged in all things orange and my family had some contacts on the board so I heard all the murmurs about “better lock down Fulmer before (insert team here ) lures him away” towards the end of the season before Majors heart attack. I think it’s common knowledge that to some degree Fulmer himself was behind some of these murmurings . To call him a “big time coach” however is a stretch. ”Promising up and comer “ is more like it.

Brandon told me they hired Alex Golesh for yall new OC. He is on a plane right now as we speak. Should be announced any min. Huepel brought his OC from UCF

I actually would have made him priority number one if UT was going the coordinator route. He’s going to be a good one. I have family that are OM people and they are almost more scared of losing him than Kiffin. I get what you’re saying though.

Yeah man.

Aim high, that's my motto. Same with the HC situation.

Lebby is about as hot as they come on OCs. May as well try to get him but I dont see it happening here.

Think he has more than a fair shot at replacing Heupel at CF.
