Jeff Fisher comments on interest in the UT job

And apparently we have fans who think a coach that went to the Super Bowl 21 years ago is a sure recipe for success.
Yeah, there’s no guarantees, and I wouldn’t want the Titans to rehire him. That said, I’m sure he has the connections to build a good staff. I have no idea how he’ll be on the recruiting trail.

We have fans who apparently think coaching in the SEC is tougher than the NFL. Keeping an NFL job for 22 seasons is proof he can coach and that he doesn't suck. They apparently don't think an NFL coach could recruit here even though Derek freaking Dooley signed top 25 classes here and Butch Jones signed top 5 classes.
He would be far and away a better recruiter than Pruitt. There's absolutely nothing he doesn't know more about than Pruitt concerning player evaluation

This fan base’s mentality is like a man saying “i should leave my wife and start banging Carrie Underwood, Beyoncé, or Jennifer Aniston” when in reality you can’t even get a smile from the fat chick that’s works at Waffle House....yea it would be AWESOME if we could hire Kiffin, Freeze, Campbell, or Malzahn...but if we fire Pruitt y’all better be ready to accept the fact that we are getting the equivalent of Mrs Scattered and Covered down at the Waffle House
You just killed my wet dream.

That's a ridiculous assessment of Fisher

At the college level? Prove it.
I am trying to respect your post count and likes, but your posts in this thread are just projectile vomiting against hiring Fisher. You are against it. Noted.
His record does not indicate he was a bad NFL coach. Just a terrible conclusion based on nothing. He was great with the rosters he had.
It is unknown whether her can recruit a college roster. Very true.

On the flip side, the Pete Carroll analogy is a double edged sword. He cheated to recruit and skipped town to let everyone else deal with the devastation he caused at USC.

Jeff Fisher has crapped more football coaching ability than anyone but Saban in the SEC has ingested, so it makes the discussion an interesting one to have.

Would y’all think bill cowher would have any interest?

I would LOVE TO HAVE COWHER!!! I doubt it. There is no telling how much he is making. As a Steelers fan, I wanted him to stay longer. But, Tomlin has done a very solid job! He may not be up for a rebuild of a college team after his success in the NFL. I don't think he would want to risk being fired as a college coach after going out on his own a year after a Super Bowl ring.

So the GM tells the head coach who he is hiring as players. The head coach does not go and evaluate, interview, pick his roster needs while the GM negotiates the final contract terms.NFL draft days with the HC and staff in war rooms is just for show...the GM should be the only one in the room. Got it.
Not sure you do, yes the GM hires the players, typically they have a cap expert for the salary and contract nuances. Does the coach have input, yes, but, ultimately it is the GM who buys the groceries.

You are delusional. The guy did a lot better coaching a D in the NFL than Saban did!!! He may not be the answer. But, he is MORE PROVEN than 90% of the people UT could POTENTIALLY HIRE!!!
We are talking about the SEC not the NFL. And definitely not the NFL 5-6 years ago

Yeah and I'd say he's one of the few exceptions. He also hadn't been out of the game 5 years then.
Yeah, you're right. Fisher has probably forgotten some things about the game.

Seriously, the five year hiatus probably has rejuvenated him some. He would likely be motivated to perform at a high level. He's intelligent, plus a pretty cool dude. Players would love him. He had the rep for being a players' coach, which in certain scenarios, is a great attribute to have when reestablishing a program

He would bring in an offensive guru and hand it over to him, stay out of his way and only offer direction when needed. IMO, it would be a great hire and provide much needed stability in the organizational structure of game day management
And you know this how?

And he speaks English too.

If we can hire J Fisher and I think we can this entire turmoil could actually have a silver lining. I do not see anyway that our current coach will be here next season and I would think Martin and few other of our staff would work well with JF. I could even see our current OC being on the staff thru next year to keep the cost down on turnover.

And you know this how?
I don't "know" it. It's a prediction based on an informed perspective of his time with the Titans, KNOWING how he structured and organized his players and staff. And knowing it would be on a much higher level than what we're getting from Pruitt in those 2 important elements for building and sustaining a power 5, traditionally tiered program

Chuck Noll - 4 Super Bowls - .566 winning percentage. Considered one of the top 5 coaches in the history of football.

John McKay - 4 NCAA Titles - .335 in 9 seasons in the NFL

Steve Spurrier - 1 NCAA Title - .375 in 2 NFL seasons.

Gene Stallings - 1 NCAA Title - .405 in 4 seasons in the NFL.

Dennis Erickson - 2 NCAA Titles - .417 in 6 seasons in the NFL.

Nick Saban - 5 NCAA titles - .468 in 2 seasons in the NFL.

*Winning in the post-merger NFL is hard. Winning in the salary cap era is even harder.

I got a simple question: Noll and McKay are dead. Stallings is 85. What is the point? Unless you are an expert in cloning technology, and have DNA samples? I don't get it.

I've got a simple answer. I was showing that elite college coaches get dominated in the NFL and even all time NFL greats don't always have high winning percentages. Which is why it was ridiculous for the poster I was responding to make a case that Fisher sucked because he was barely over .500 in the NFL.

Be a great bridge hire
Get the program stable again.
Competing in games with a soild staff I'd say he'd bring in
Recruits parents will remember him coaching in the super bowl.
He wants the job, that means a lot considering the situation right now
500 in the NFL is a good coach
Could do a lot worse imo.

Did better than Saban in the NFL. Maybe he could come and do better than Saban in college. You guys would be chest bumping for decades to come if that happened. Give him a statue beside Neyland. Won't know if he's not given the chance.
