When you explain it that way, soft does come to mind. If soft means having a heart and caring for other’s feelings. No, I’m just mature enough to realize wishing harm to a 20 year old kid because he didn’t meet my expectations as a fan is probably the dumbest and most childish stance in life you can take.
I think thats probably a fair assessment of the situationNever understood the hate thrown Hurd’s way when he left. He wasn’t happy and had every right to pursue something different. Changing positions was probably a good move as he wasn’t likely to be viewed highly as an NFL RB due to his inability to break away for long runs.
Those aren't slot WRsHe made a great decision to leave and change positions imo. Timing sucked but it was clearly the right move for him. Catching the ball was always his best skill and with his size and strength, he’s tailor-made to be a effective NFL slot receiver imo, a la Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. And no, I don’t think he would’ve sniffed the 3rd round , probably doesn’t even get drafted if he stays at running back at Tennessee.
Since the late Reggie Cobb was one of the main scouts for the 49ers and lived in Texas, I bet Hurd was one of the last players he scouted and graded before his unfortunate death. I trust Reggie.Yeah, unless their head scout is some sort of genius who sees something none of the others do, 3rd round is bizarrely high.
He’ll never be a in-line TE, he may flex out as a TE every once in awhile, play the occasional H-back, but he’ll play primarily in the slot and occasionally at wideout imho. He’s 6’4” and currently at 226lbs. He’s not traditional TE material. He was a projected top 100 pick.
Not that fast for WRs, so I expect him to eventually transition to TE like we said all along on Volnation. lol
It blew my mind at the time how he left the team. Once some info came out on how Butch operated, it blew my mind at how long he stayed. He's a growing 23 year old child that gets knocked out on special teams in the NFL
Spoken like a truly bitter old fartAnd he'll still be getting paid by one of the most storied franchises in sports while you're doing nothing more than wishing ill will towards him and others.
I realize Baylor's offense tends to inflate stats a bit, but it's worth noting that based on his numbers, he'd likely been our #1 WR last season if he were still on the team. Butch absolutely squandered his talent, just like he did with Kamara, Dobbs, and several other players.
Wishing Hurd luck in the NFL. He was smart to get away from Butch, even if he didn't necessarily go about it the 100% right way. I give him the benefit of the doubt as a young man, as we all make mistakes at that age.
Though, part of me does think of how crazy it would've been to have a WR corps with Preston Williams, Jalen Hurd, Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway, and Josh Palmer all at the same time! Not that it wouldn't have been squandered with the O-line issues.

The observation I'm making is that he will be more effective on special teams (getting knocked out) than catching the football against NFL defenders.
