Its over [hiring pause]

Politely, Arkansas also got Pittman.

He'll sign that because if he's wants to be a HC, he'll have to sign that. Other coaches aren't Pittman and won't sign that deal.

Exactly. And I dont think Pruitt's contract was much better than that. I think it was 3.8 million for 6 years. But UT is a bigger football program than Arky.

Seems pretty normal for a guy who's never been a head coach before. I think Pruitt is only owed 60% of his pay if he is fired regardless of how many games UT wins.

He's guaranteed 60% of the remaining contract balance, which is why Fulmer should have never extended him with anything more than 2 years left on his contract.

It's pretty obvious UT leaked this to ESPN, he's getting fired at this point it's too toxic for him.

Yeah, the writing may be on the wall. I just dont think that it will happen if they cant fire him with cause. Otherwise paying the expense of lawyering up makes no sense.

I’m not sure about this anymore. Yes there’s a ton of HS talent in that state, but also a ton of competition from programs like A&M, OU, LSU, Bama, etc.
I raise you our competition of
UGA, Uf, Ala damn Bama, SC, Mizzu,
Sometimes LSU, ol piss, miss st,
Come on man.

I think Freeze will wait a year to get his dream job, esp at ~$3mill/year

I cannot wait to see some photoshopped pictures of Freeze in a Huggy Bear outfit adorn the sidelines. Maybe even on some billboards. I cannot see an influential money guy wanting to attach his name to that kind of risk.

They aren’t just sitting there twiddling their thumbs. They’re trying to build a case to fire for cause. They can’t just do that wantonly because if Pruitt sued them and won in court, they could be ordered to pay MORE than the original buyout under treble damages. They need to ensure all their ducks are in a row before they pull the trigger.
Sure, but at what cost to our ability to move the program forward. The longer they linger, the more likely we end up with another Dooley-type hire with many players bolting for the doors. I’d rather keep Pruitt another year than that happen.

I personally believe that they wouldnt offer Pruitt the extension if they couldn't pay it when things went south.

The amount of money we are talking about here is chump change in the world of college football.

Auburn payed a decent coach over 20 mil to just "go away". Pruitt wasn't making that much in the grand scheme of college coaching.

UT can and will pay what it has to because its not that much for them and the boosters.

Dead man walking. This will not end with championships or Pruitt being the Tennessee HOF, too much blood in the water to recover.

After GaState last year, followed by the BYU fiasco, I think any thoughts of NCs or HOF were gone for most folks, including me. We saw fools gold in that limping winning streak against poor teams, but this was never going to end well. JP simply isn't a SEC level NC.

I think it was over the second they brought in that law firm, at that point they're just crossing T's and dotting I's

Just let Fulmer take over as HC...screw it
its definitely happened before. Especially if Tennessee receives any kind of ban from the NCAA. You could absolutely see Phil take over in the interim until the fire is put out and they can go get a new coach with nothing hanging over the prodram.
