Is Rocky Top out dated?

Does anyone think that maybe playing a 50 year old hillbilly, bluegrass song is past it's prime? With the advent of other music to pump up the crowd and the team, playing Rocky Top over and over and over and over and over is insane in college sports today. What about the playing the theme from the Beverly Hillbillies instead? It may run a little long, but it does have a catchy melody and also has a banjo.

NO.

I see the OP did change his original post to try and upset more folks....He needs to see the banjo playing boys in Deliverance...

I can't wait until we start winning games so everyone will stop with the get rid this or wanting to change everything thread? We are what we are, tennesse Orange & white wearing, Rocky top singing (woo or no woo) Smokey loving, moonshine drinking, tailgating, florida and Alabama hating , Volunteers. People please just stop! Yes, I am mad bro.GoVols!

..let this thread die.

Sounds like a Commonwhores fan

Just got home from Miami - Dolphins played around with "Fins to right Fins to the left" when it was Land Shark Stadium, they have a T-Pain version of the fight song and they do "modernize" with "3rd down for what" several years ago J-lo. Gloria Estephan, Fergie, would pop up and give go Phins messages.

On Thursday night the fans were singing along and digging the old fight song - "Miami's got the Dolphins the Greatest Football team" Which is pretty dated and lame EXCEPT WHEN THEY ARE WINNING!

We have a traditional song which is a classic - Osbornes, Dolly, Charlie Daniels, etc. We need to make it more classic with winning again!

BTW- I think it is a great blue-grass tune even without the Vol tie-in.

GBO!

Is the Vol Walk outdated because of the emergence of luxury shuttle busses? Hell, get rid of running through the T, just pull the shuttle bus right up to the sideline... I can't even believe this is a thread... I guess you'd prefer them to play something with an artist who calls themselves lil or yung something or another... How disgraceful! You should be banned from my beloved Neyland Stadium.

Chilling to hear, most assuredly, all of our fans in attendance singing Rocky Top on national TV as we dropped KY's back for a 5 yard loss. Chilling.

How about "I've been working on the railroad" which Georgia does. One thing that makes college football so special is the traditions. The young ones love paying respect to the old traditions.

Notre Dame still sings "Notre Dame my Mother" after every game. They all love it.

Want to put this in proper context.
First play after a late score and kickoff, TV comes back from commercial showing the play as it starts. No commentary, just 100K VFL's serenading our D. As the chorus reaches its crescendo KY hands off to their back, he is dropped in his tracks for a loss, right in between "good ole Rocky Top" *BAM* and "Rocky Top Tennessee!"

Chilling

Not no but HELL NO!!!

That song is part of our deep tradition and should NEVER go away!!!

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Not so much...

UT’s official alma mater is "On a Hallowed Hill," but its unofficial theme song is the ever-popular "Rocky Top," written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant in 1967, who wrote hits such as the Everly Brothers' "Wake up, Little Susie" and "Bye, Bye Love." First played by the UT Pride of the Southland Band in 1972, “Rocky Top” quickly became a staple at UT games and was named one of the state’s official songs in 1982..
