I like JG, I think he’s tough and talented. But I respectfully ask, did you watch both play on 9/22? One had 3 TD’s and zero picks and his team won by 4 TD’s. The other had two picks, a lost fumble and didn’t finish the game due to being sacked/hit/hurried all game long.
It's not a particularly fair comparison, because that was JG's worst game (by far) and one of Frank's best. Also, while it wasn't a great game for JG, at least part of the problems stemmed from O-line protection.
Over the course of the season, JG has been the better QB. He's averaging over 9 yards per attempt, while Franks is around 7.7 ypa. Franks throws an INT every 36 attempts, while JG throws one every 63 attempts. JG completes 64% of his passes, while Franks only completes 56%. The only real case for Franks over JG is his scrambling ability. Fwiw, though, my contrarian take on the SEC QBs is that Franks might be better than Lock. I think people are overrating Lock, Shurmur, and Bentley.
That said, my position that JG is the 2nd best or maybe even the best QB in the SEC East isn't really as dramatic as people think. Statistically, he's easily the 2nd best and Fromm has an abundance of riches that JG does not. But I don't particularly think any of the SEC East QBs are "elite" or "great" right now.
If I were to rate all the SEC QBs, I'd go:
(1) Tua Tagovailoa, Bama
(2) Kellen Mond, A&M
(3) Jordan Ta'amu, Ole Miss
(4) Jake Fromm, Georgia
(5) Jarrett Guarantano, Tennessee
(6) Jarrett Stidham, Auburn
(7) Feleipe Franks, Florida
(8) Drew Lock, Mizzou
(9) Jake Bentley, South Carolina
(10) Nick Fitzgerald, Miss State (*)
(11) Joe Burrow, LSU
(12) Kyle Shurmur, Vanderbilt
(13) Terry Wilson, Kentucky
(14) Ty Storey, Arkansas
(*) Let's be honest --- Fitzgerald is a Running Back and his performance as a QB has dropped off considerably since Dan Mullen left Starkville --- and also worth noting that Franks' performance improved significantly the moment Mullen arrived.
