Is Helfrich @ OC a legit discussion?

Well, certainly aided simply by App State and Georgia Southern leaving the conference.

If Alabama and Florida left the conference... we'd be riding pretty high now too. ;)

Oh come on... UTC atheletic department has drastically improved all around with Blackburn in place. Football, M BB, W BB,...

He has no clue what he is jumping into at UT. Gonna be a complete culture shock Im sure.

He used to work in the athletic department in Knoxville. I'm pretty sure he knows everything about it. If you don't want him, we'll be more than happy to keep him in Chattanooga and keep winning championships under his leadership.

Absolutely! I'm sick of hearing about Appy St. and Ga. Southern. With the athletes Chattanooga has pulled in the last 4 years, Chattanooga would have been conference champions had those schools been there.

That was a boatload of sarcasm.

Then please accept my apology. I misunderstood.

No need to do that.

I'm a fan of Blackburn and think he will do well here.

That post was for all those that don't seem to realize he has some pretty deep roots here. He's not gonna be surprised by the fanatics and expectations.
He remembers when UT was good. He was here.

People use Appy St. and Georgia Southern leaving as an excuse for the success of UTC football in recent years. Well in the past, the Mocs would lose to EVERYONE at times in the So Con. That changed under Huesman.

You have lost your mind GS and App are high level G5 schools now - Chatty isn't and won't be at there level any time soon - GS and App 2 deep are mostly 3-stars with a few 4 star guys they have serious talent and that's why they left SoCon and have not disappointed.

Yep. Helfrich couldn't recruit a QB and made an awful defensive hire. He wouldn't have to do any of that an an OC. I think he'd do a great job developing a QB and calling plays.

The problem is that Butch is a micromanager who only hires yes men to work under him on the offensive side of the ball. Someone like Helfrich would come in with lots of ideas and things he wanted to do and I don't think Butch would like that.

Helfrich is the one who recruited Marriota. He also recruited several other very good QBs. They just didn't stick around or final commit because they didn't want to sit behind Marriota. Then when Marcus was gone a big void appeared and Helfrich couldn't fill it. The other QB Helfrich had scheduled to join the Ducks the same year as Marriota was a guy the won a Heisman at A&M.

If Helfrich comes anywhere to the East side, then he's desperate. The guy is a born raised west coast man.

He's either NFL or going to a west coast school

I just don't understand this logic when it comes to Mark. I think he'd love Tennessee. It's his kind of area, beautiful, great outdoors and I just think he'd be very comfortable there. I also, just don't buy this "West Coast" only mentality. I think from a competitive stand point, he'd love to coach in the SEC.

He's a very good quality human being. He will probably be a good HC at some point in the future, he just wasn't ready yet at Oregon.

Hey damn, were you guys wanting helfrich fired? Curious as to the mood in Eugene. Seems like one of the good guys in coaching.

Yep, he needed to go. The defense was bad and he made a "change" to fix the problem and it got a lot worse!!

Plus, he did fail to have a Marriota replacement come in to run the offense.

So this year with "another" transfer from a small school at QB and a true freshman for a back up..... Oh, wait, the freshman beat out the transfer and started in the "WASHINGTON" game. The defense gave up 70 to the taildraggers from Seattle. And Helfrich gave a true freshman his first start in that game. That was just plain boneheaded.

I'm not arguing Appy St. and Ga. Southern weren't good, but them leaving doesn't have anything to do with the improvement in Chattanooga.

Maybe not but if Alabama and LSU left the SEC others would rise by default - App and GS leaving certainly hasn't hurt Chattanooga they moved up the pecking order

And Chattanooga's AD did a great job! So everything ties together! :yess:

According to Yahoo Sports, Lane Kiffin has hired Kendall Briles as his offensive coordinator, allowing him to be the chief executive officer of FAU football.

Two Oregon players under investigation for sexual assault. October time frame and they had been barred from campus since. One is Tristen Wallace, notable for being the spoiler announcement QB when Guarantano passed on tOSU. Remember the Buckeyes WR coach praising him for "not being afraid of competition"? And then they recruited over him and he went to Oregon.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich was at Tennessee’s practice this week and is among a pool of coaches being considered for the Vols’ staff.

Tennessee has not put forth any formal offers, according to multiple sources, but Helfrich’s quarterback coaching expertise and offensive ingenuity make him an obvious candidate for pending staff changes.

I wouldn't think he'd step down to position coach. Maybe with an assistant HC title.

To Butch's credit, when he's made recent staff changes he's gone after some of the absolute best coaches available.

OMG....

Shoop had to "tinker" with 11 different combinations in the secondary. Its a wonder UT made it to any bowl game.

Helfrich was there because he had planned to see Mariota play this weekend. But Mariota broke his leg. He was just dropping by. Move along nothing to see here. He doesn't even have any land in Bucksnort...
