Iran

Multiple diplomatic sources told CBS News that President Trump had been told that the ceasefire announced Thursday would apply to the Middle East region, and he agreed that included Lebanon. Mediators believed the ceasefire to include Lebanon, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that it did. Araghchi also said it was included.

On the day of the ceasefire, a White House official told CBS News that Israel had also agreed with the terms of the deal that Pakistan had helped to broker.
However, the U.S. position shifted following a phone call between Netanyahu and Mr. Trump. Two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News that the changing U.S. positions, and the disjointed remnant of the regime in Iran, are making the diplomacy highly complex.

well being attacked by an outside third party does have a tendency to push a group together. Think back to 9/11, but across the whole country. Bush was HATED. but after 9/11 the nation was behind him almost 100%.

The US made themselves the enemy. instead of being the theoretically boogey man, we became the actual boogey man. that is going to change the math in a lot of people's heads, especially if the regime has a deep hold on the media and the story going around.

a peaceful example of this is what Trump did with Canada. Canada was going hard right in their last PM elections. then Trump opened his mouth and talked about annexing them. and then suddenly the right lost hard? Why? because Trump inserted himself in a manner that makes him a bad guy to the locals, where he might not have been before. It is very likely this is Trump inserting his foot into his mouth to make a situation worse.

Probably some truth but it doesn't explain the Taliban and Afghanistan. We should be worried with the men checking out thing. Islam and Sharia looks really popular of you want to oppress women or feel oppressed by them. It is basically the Hanmaids tail come alive.

Hmmm. Who's violating the ceasefire?

Given Pakistan brokered the deal, methinks it'd be Israel.

The United States and Israel maintain that Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire; Iran and Pakistan, which has been involved in negotiations, said the temporary truce includes Lebanon.

We didn’t fight to win in Afghanistan that was more “measured response “ nonsense.
More "winning hearts and minds" silliness. It didn't work in Vietnam and it didn't work in Iraq, so of course we tried it again in Afghanistan.
Japan surrendered unconditionally as did Germany because they lost and it was devastating.
Again…..is it worth that kind of fight to attack Iran? Because clearly we’re not willing to do what it takes to create unconditional surrender. That’s a really high bar. I don’t think the Iran situation is anywhere near requiring our attention. We should not attack anyone unless the need rises to the level that we’re willing to do whatever is necessary.

Maybe we should stop attacking anyone who doesn’t attack us.
I expressed a similar sentiment recently. You can't win hearts and minds while the populace is still under the heel or in fear of an oppressive regime.

The Twitter police (social worker, my bad) of the board fell for “diplomatic sources told CBS”. Always trusting when MSM puts anonymous sources as diplomatic. It gets clicks faster.
The prime minister of Pakistan literally included Lebanon in the tweet to announce it all.

Respectfully, PV, (and I think you know that I mean that, you have always had to intelligent, thoughtful takes whether I shared your position or not). Does Pakistan announcing it mean it happened?

If one country announcing a resution to a dispute made it true, we’d be in a great position today, with all the proclamations our blow-hard in chief makes.

FTR, I stated at the outset of this that I thought Rubio’s take was legit: Israel was gonna attack, so we joined because we knew Iran would start lobbing missles at everyone, and that would endanger Americans in the region. So, we tried to get ahead of it.

That said, theee is no way anyone actually believes we agreed to the Iranian 10 point plan.

Enriched uranium? Nah.
US military withdrawal from the Middle East?Nah.
End of Sanctions? Nah.
Iranian control of Hormuz? Nah.

Only the unserious believe this stuff.

I don't think we necessarily meant to agree to their 10 points, I think Trump wanted an out and a ceasefire before his deadline so he said some hasty and dumb stuff to get there. But that shouldn't make it any less of a ceasefire

Im not saying we agreed to the 10 point plan. Im saying the broker between us and Israel made a statement that included Lebanon. And there wasn’t any outcry about Lebanon’s inclusion until Israel chose to aggressively bomb Lebanon.

Geez. I will assume the couple posters who keep calling others pedo lovers are ignored because they align politically. Saw another post a little while ago same poster talking about how many non dem posters are demented pedos.
