Iran

Read the full 60 Minutes interview of Pete Hegseth.

Wow. His level of hubris and pure ignorance is off the charts. That this is THE guy in charge is frightening.

Based upon his "we're so powerful that we can bomb any nation into submission" mantra, this war is not going to go as planned.
We took out the top 70 guys in Iran's chain of command in the first 48 hours. Iran's military has been decimated and thier missile & drone launches are down about 80%.

Familiar with Vietnam's "body count" yardstick of our "winning" that war?

Statistics. 🙄

So let's say we bomb them until their missile and drone launches are "down 600%" (Trump math) - i.e. no more launches. Then what? Their new hard-line leader is still in charge. Would our mission be complete with simply defanging his conventional fighting ability?

Given our attack on Iran, I think they'll now be laser-focused on building a nuclear bomb. History shows those in the nuke club got the VIP pass to conventional war. Even if we wipe out all their missiles, tanks, planes, etc., they'll simply dig their nuke facilities deeper - out of harm's way from our bunker busters.

Then what? Do nothing and Iran has nukes in what... a year? 6 months?

There's a reason every President in the last 47 years has chosen not to attack Iran like this. Unfortunately, one very dumb, megalomaniac President thought this would "be a cakewalk".

You know everytime a leader pops up is going to be turned into dust. Right

They are currently working on hiring the 100th prospect available.

Eventually they are going to run out of missile launchers and drones.

Actually Iran is on its 2nd leader, not 100th... no more surprise attacks from us available either.

Do you really think we can bomb Iran into submission without boots on the ground?

By your reasoning, Iran is no longer a threat when run they out of missile launchers and drones?

That's because the top 60 or 70 replacements have been killed.

You don't think the cia & mossad likely don't know where people are at a given time?

There’s a reason we knew what building that meeting was taking place to drop in those Tomahawks to start this.

No they aren’t. Mojtaba was always going to be a top candidate to take over after Ali died. When he was killed in the strikes it basically guaranteed him taking over

Your claims about replacements for Khameni are baseless. Most of the eligible candidates survived, including his son. Also, you avoided my questions...

Being reported Khamenei’s son has been chosen as the supreme leader. I would guess he would fall into the same ruling ways of his father so I guess this guy needs to die to? I’m still waiting on the protestors to take this fight over.

Iran opposition leader slams Mojtaba Khamenei’s rise as ‘hereditary monarchy’

Maryam Rajavi, president of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, blasted the move to install Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader, calling it an attempt to turn the country’s clerical system into a hereditary monarchy.
“Tonight, the absolute clerical rule (Velayat-e Faqih) has effectively turned itself into a hereditary monarchy by placing Mojtaba Khamenei on the throne,” Rajavi wrote. “But it cannot save the shipwrecked vessel of religious fascism.”
Rajavi argued that the leadership change will not restore legitimacy to Iran’s ruling system, comparing it to the monarchy overthrown in 1979 and accusing the regime of once again denying the Iranian people their sovereignty.
“For more than three decades, Mojtaba Khamenei, alongside his father, has been among the principal architects of repression, the export of fundamentalism and terrorism, and the plundering of the Iranian people’s wealth,” she said. “In practice, he has long functioned as his father’s de facto successor.”
Rajavi said the new leader bears responsibility for massacres and the suppression of popular uprisings, as well as controlling Iran’s resources and economy and the systematic looting of national wealth. The latter, Rajavi said, resulted in the regime imposing the harshest oppression and exploitation on the majority of Iranians, especially women.
“Outraged Iranian people, who have risen up in successive uprisings to overthrow this regime, will not retreat in the face of the clerical mafia ruling Iran,” Rajavi wrote. “The destiny of Iran will be written by its people.”

Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad is urging the Australian government to protect members of Iran’s women’s national soccer team after she said the players were labeled “war-time traitors” and flashed what she described as an SOS hand signal while returning to Iran.
Alinejad said the team refused to sing Iran’s national anthem following the reported killing of Ali Khamenei, a move she framed as a public act of defiance against the regime.
“Hello Australia, this is your moment. We need your support. Iran’s women’s football team refused to sing the regime’s anthem right after the killing of Ali Khamenei,” she wrote in a post on X. “State TV called them ‘war-time traitors.’ Now they’re on a bus back to Iran, flashing the SOS hand signal through the window.
“I call on [the] Australian government…Don’t send them back to danger. Please give them protection,” Alinejad added.

As we reported yesterday, Iran’s ‘Assembly of Experts’ has chosen the son of the old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to succeed him as supreme leader. While Iran’s friendship with Russia may have done it precious little good this past week, President Vladimir Putin was nevertheless quick to offer his congratulations to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei this morning.

In a statement published by The Kremlin, President Putin said:

Please accept my sincere congratulations… At a time when Iran is confronting armed aggression, your tenure in this high position will undoubtedly require great courage and dedication.
I am confident that you will honorably continue your father’s work… I would like to reaffirm our unwavering support for Tehran and solidarity with our Iranian friends. Russia has been and will remain a reliable partner of the Islamic Republic.
I wish you success in solving the difficult tasks facing you, as well as good health and strength of spirit.

Putin endorsed.

Something people fail to recognize is that this is not and was not a straightforward dictatorship like Iraq, Libya, Egypt, etc,. This is an ideology. This is a large organization. An organization in which martyrdom is rewarded, not feared. These people do not fear death like rational people. They would rather be martyred than surrender. Not because they’re courageous, but because they are indoctrinated into their radicalized belief. These people created their own separate military (IRGC) in which they self select soldiers at a young age to protect the regime that more than rivals the ordinary military (especially in terms of quality of soldiers). They have built infrastructure ensuring their own survival for this very moment. The Iranian people who have been massacred by this regime, are not going to go out on the streets again to get massacared again.

This regime will not change without a full scale boots on the ground invasion. But I do not believe the American public has the appetite for that, considering it will likely be far more devastating to America economically in addition to number of casualties than Iraq Afghanistan combined. The topography and size of Iran would make for a devastatingly difficult ground invasion.

I have a hard time imagining this goes in any direction other than Trump realizing that he is in over his head, we ultimately withdraw attacks, claim victory over Iran through destroying their ability to produce weapons of mass destruction, while leaving a new Iranian regime in place as hostile as ever.

That's some bus ride, Australia to Iran. Anyway, I wish them well.

This essentially is America's war policy since Korea in the 50s.

I had a conversation with a poster who took umbrage in me saying that we should be cautious of those who are radicalized and those who practice a radicalized form of their religion.
