Solid post.
Trust the coach as opposed to what? Do you think we should all be the "Fire Coach X!" kind of idiots that think that what they say on a message board makes one shred of difference weather a coach is fired or hired. The depth of delusion that some people display is scarey sometimes.
Who cares who trusts a coach or not? We will find out if Butch has "knocked this hire out of the park" or not in a little less than a year and at no time before that will a conclusion be drawn. People can make this hire out to be the best or worst hire in the history of football but until the games are played nobody really knows a damn thing. I would suggest not getting to juiced up about it either way. At least not until game 1 of 2015.
Haven't had your splash of Summer's Eve, yet, have you, Mrs Dooley? Cause, you don't seem to be feeling so....fresh.No its not. It's a 3 year temper tantrum. Overreaction to something that hasn't even happened yet and childish to the fact that it's not going his way.
Yea plenty out there that would be sexy hires, but just wait and see versus getting the panties in a wad before anything happens.
A self serving post that states I know more that CBJ about this hire.
How did that work out for you...with Clawson, Kiffin, Dooley and Sal Sunseri? Hmmmm? You trusted the staff/AD then, too.
Problem is, coaches tend to be fiercly loyal to each other and tend to repay debts (I'll help you for helping me back in the day).
The point of the matter is whether fans here have a legitimate right to voice a concern when they see one. Too many idiotic homers emphatically say you can't. These same idiots insist that you HAVE to blindly accept every damn decision a coach may make. After all, Dooley's a coach and has more experience than all of us fans, right? So, that being the case, who are we to question his hiring of Sal Sunseri, rather than a guy like Randy Shannon, who has been a successful DC at Miami? What the funk do we know? We just look at statistics and records..you know. The very things that actually count. Duh?I certaintly trust the coaches, especially those who have winning records and can recruit as well as CBJ, more than the want to be jock/coach posters on this board. We can always hire a new coach, but seem not to be able to get rid of these troll posters.

Obviously, some of us have enough instincts and deductive reasoning to conclude, and rightly so, that Dooley was NOT qualified to be the head coach, here. There were the "but nobody wants to coach here!" goobers who foolishly claimed Dooley was the only one who wanted the job and we should thank him for wanting the job. :loco:
Sumlin had a winning resume and wanted the job, when Dooley was hired. All the homers here just take whatever they are handed without question and insist everybody else does the same. BS!
I get your point but you're giving yourself and the general fan way too much credit. I could name 20 coordinators that fans weren't on board with who turned out fine.

One doesn't have to implicitly "trust" any coaching staff, in order to be a "true" fan. Voicing an opinion of concern is far from "throwing a tantrum," Mrs Dooley. You were just as stupid and foolish in defending Mike Hamilton...then Lane Kiffin....then Dooley when he was still the coach. So, you are in no position to be ridiculing anyone, here....seeing that you've been on the azz-end of the argument just about every single time, and for years, at that.
NEWSFLASH...This just in!!! Coaches get hired and fired EVERY year! Because they are indeed fallible....yet there are always hordes of "I trust Derek Dooley's" like you out there.
I voiced well-reasoned doubts about Dooley after we lost to KY for the first time in over 25yrs...and Dooley's staff started jumping ship on their own accord. I stated that Hart should have cut the cord at that point and moved on. Dooley had to hire scrubs and the 2012 season was sacrificed in the name of "patience." Because naive individuals like yourself trusted Hart and the staff implicitly.
I was patient with Dooley like others, up until that point. Again, I like Butch, but he hasn't really done anything on the field to compel anyone to blindly trust him. In fact, his record after 2 seasons is practically the same as Dooley's. So, I indeed have good reason for concern, at this juncture. Butch has already made some critical errors. Errors that have cost us a number of games and quality players/depth.
He's recruited well and that's certainly a great reason for optimism. But on the flip side of the coin, he's also lost an inordinate amount of good players, to transfer...and some of those were because of the way he or the staff treat players. We aren't talking about one or two hyper-sensitive guys. There is some substance to their grievances, because he has recently acknowledged it and said he will try to improve in that area. Even if we are recruiting well, we can ill-afford to be bleeding out good talent like we have this year.
Everyone excused Kiffin, Dooley and now Butch, because "we didn't have any depth"...how in the hell are we going to ever acquire depth with all this attrition? We aren't. Something has to improve/change in this regard.
Butch (and Bajakian) also bungled their evaluation of Dobbs for most of the season, until injury forced their hand. In the O/W game, Dobbs was hands-down the best looking QB heading into Summer. In the Bama, SC and KY games, he picked up right where he left off in the Spring. Had Dobbs started earlier in the season, which I said from the start that he should...based on scheme fit and athleticism...then this team would have won at least 3 more games this season and been in contention for the SEC E THIS year.
THAT is a major cock-up by Butch and Bajakian. So, no...they've made enough mistakes for me withhold implicit trust. Trust is earned...and outside of recruiting, he hasn't EARNED it, yet.
I'm hopeful that he has learned from those mistakes and that we'll be a better team for it, in the long run. But, I can be optimistic fan and yet show concern from time to time. Optimism and trust are not identical twins.
Here is how I see it playing out.....coach hires debord.....this board goes into melt down mode....first game the offense struggles or we lose a game we think we should have won.....there will be several I told u so posts.....tennessee wins the SEC one of the next few yrs.... After which Debord leaves to go back to the pros...Board goes into melt down mode over losing Debord. LOL

You were also yelling at the top of your lungs that Paul Harris should have been playing more because he had "the size". I don't see you touting that part of your record as well as every other bone-headed thing you have spewed around here. However, you will shout from the rooftops about how you were right about Dooley and Hamiliton. Guess what....that was pretty much the consensus on Dooley after that Kentucky game.
What gets me is how people rip and condemn something or somebody before they've even had a chance. The guy isn't even hired yet and already people want him "gone". Why? Because people sit around and look at a coach's Wikipedia page and compare. I'll stick with the head coach's evaluation of who he wants to hire and support that person until there is evidence to the contrary.
Bolding random words is fun!!!

Good! You have voiced your concern. Are you done? Or do we have to listen to same old rehashed garbage that some like to post over and over and over and over again? If we hire Debord will we have to listen to the "we are never going to win" posts for 9 months or will we actually take a rational wait and see approach? You have no idea how anyone that is hired will perform until the games are played. So you can complain over and over again or you can say your peace and then shut up and wait and see like the rest of the men on this board.

...and has failed miserably almost every time. I like Butch as much as the next guy, and I am super excited about our chances to win the division next year. That is why I REALLY want Butch to knock this thing (OC hire) out of the park.
But, I'm terribly concerned that Butch may be falling victim to the familiarity/association trap (ie, like Hamilton did Hiring Kiffin and Dooley based on their familiarity/association with Monte and Saban, respectively) with DeBord. Just blindly defending what appears to be a bad hire, has a terrible track record lately.
Nothing about his resume says "prolific" The 97 NC team had an average offense, but great defense. His offense doesn't even remotely resemble what Butch has since developed AFTER his association with DeBord.
Butch's offense mirrors that of Rich Rodriguez, whose current offense is putting up big numbers. Hiring one of his co-OC's would therefore make the most sense. Both of whom Butch has worked with since.
DeBord seems more like repaying a debt, for helping Butch get started long ago...than hiring the most qualified....TODAY.
Rod Smith or Calvin MaGee would be guys that we could all be happy about. Bill Legg's offense is VERY similar to ours...and his Marshall offense was the 2nd most prolific in College (FBS), last year.
One of my favorites would be Meacham at TCU. Smaller program than our own...and less talent overall. But they manhandled both Oklahoma and Ole Miss, this year. Two teams that didn't just beat us, but thumped us, soundly.
Give him Dobbs, North, Malone, Pearson, Hurd and Wolf...and he can hand out the same kind of azz-whoopin's he gave OK and Ole Miss.
Call it "sexy" hire if you will. It's just a matter of looking at who has demonstrated success at that position, lately. It's what any employer is looking for.
