Hurricane Irma

Apparently the hurricane is now heading straight to Cornelia, Georgia. The lady who checked me out at Walmart earlier asked if I was ready for it, cause it's heading straight our way!

The 8 AM update is actually showing a very slight shift west. Now passing through Biscayne Bay

Just flew back in town from the game in Atlanta to get my house family and pets ready for this storm. We are in Coral Springs just west of Ft Lauderdale. Hoping this thing stays east and we can ride this out. If it looks like its going to directly go over the top of Broward county we will head up to Lake Placid where my Wife grandparents have a home with home generator and shutters, atleast by the time the storm gets there it should be less intense. Pray for us down here!!

Apparently, there are shortages in Naples as late evacuators from Miami are heading towards what they hope will be the safe side of the peninsula.

I'm amazed that Cornelia has the population to support a Walmart.

So, my San Juan vacation obviously being cancelled, I AirB&B'd a loft in Downtown Knoxville as a precaution. That windstorm known as "Hurricane Matthew" knocked out our power for 4 days last year and destroyed the pier that's about 2 miles from my house. Difference is, I have a 4 month old now so we're not trying to stick around.

Have to bring our chihuahua along as well, but looking forward to getting out of town for a few days and eating/shopping at different places.

Haven't seen that yet today. Just stopped and topped off gas in my truck with no issues. Saw generators at Tractor Supply this morning, too. Not sure about the water and food supply though.

Like Clearwater said, last few days were crazy but it's calming down a little from what I've seen. Most people are prepared and ready to hunker down if need be.

Report I got was from a relative who lives in Seagate. Said he couldn't get gasoline yesterday. Today, I saw that the Naples newspaper is running a list of places that have/don't have water, canned food, propane, etc.

Yeah there were long lines to get gas yesterday I saw. Also crazy long lines for plywood. I pulled up and got gas pretty easily today. Only about half the pumps had people even at them.

It's also a good idea to make sure you have cash available when preparing for a hurricane. If power / communications are out after the storm, cash will be king.

Gas and water have been scarce, but supplies (especially gas) seem to be steadily arriving.

As of now, we're expecting TS wind gusts here just N of Tampa. I'll decide Saturday whether or not to put the plywood up over the windows.

Gallons of water? Check. Glock 22 and Mossberg 500 + ammo? Check. Cans of tuna? Check. 2 boxes of MRE's? Check. I'm good.

Curious, do you know how accurate the pressure/intensity forecasts are vs track? Because while the Euro has a more westward track, it also forecasts a less intense storm upon landfall. Hate to pick between two evils, but that would seem preferable than a Cat 5 direct hit to Miami, and a ride up the coast.

Honestly I have no idea. I know it tends to be more accurate on mid range tracking, but as far as pressure, etc. I don't know.

Edit: I do know I read that it's fixing to track over some of the warmest tropical waters in the world so it probably will intensify.

Was really hoping it would/will head back out in the Atlantic. Doesn't appear to be the case. I am so dreading this.

I'll be fine, but so many others wont. It's always terrible no matter where it happens, but it obviously effects us differently when it's close to home and involves people we know.

Despite it crossing so much land. It's projected to hit Knoxville as a tropical storm
