Hunter has checked out? (merged)

Hunter certainly has developed a set of alligator arms this year. Maybe staying in school to get an education (long term family plan) and postpone the NFl for a year is the best option for him? Certainly up to him to decide, we can only speculate, but he isn't doing himself a lot of good right now with his spotty play. CP has come in and taken over the #1 WR role from Hunter.

Which is the REAL way to get drafted.

I'm not saying Hunter is playing to not get hurt, but IMO if you have any mindset close to I can't get hurt you are more likely to get hurt from playing timid. It's hard for me to say back off Hunter because you have a family to take care of simply because I love UT that much. The problem is Hunter has played horribly this year, and he may kiss that first round selection good bye simply by not getting it done on the field for us. I love Hunter and he's a great talent, but he's got to get it going if he wants to keep that 1st round selection status.

And replaced by a guy who actually makes catches? Certainly. Probably look a lot better. Maybe even good enough to come out and score in the first half and not play from behind all season long. Might win a game for once. If he is so good he "could" quit, he should quit. Give the spot to someone who wants to beat Bama. Not someone who has checked the **** out til Pro Day. Some/all of these kids are here to just be drafted. But if they are not a winner in college they most likely wont be a winner in the pros. Hard to "flip a switch". Has to be a constant effort. Maybe he shows up this week and fights for "his"team. Maybe he still has it on cc. Wont know til Saturday night. That is the hard part for the fans. We are not sure about the make up of our lead guys. It's getting better, but still flaky. At midseason.

If Justin Hunter doesn't play against Bama....it reduces the slightest of slightest chances of an upset to an absolute 0% chance of beating the Crimson Tide.

Team is going nowhere, I would be playing for myself too.

He is the first WR taken if healthy. Whether you guys like it or not. You will see next year when we have nobody getting double teamed like him and CP, when they will be missed.

LOL. Whatever dude. Some things are just more important than risking irreparably breaking your body while playing a game for free, especially when you can get paid millions for playing it next year as long as he doesn't get hurt again.. Get a little perspective.

FREE!? Last time I checked they were getting a full college education, plus housing and meals, for their time on the field that they can take with them AFTER the NFL and use to support their family for the rest of their lives, something not everyone is given.... Perspective?!

Do you people not realize that this isn't something that affects him 100% of the day? It's a knee-jerk reaction. When you're about to catch say a ten yard pass and you notice that catching it could get you head knocked off then you hesitate and realize that those specific ten yards may not be worth the rest of your football career.

Also those saying Hunter isn't trying anymore, the only time he's quit was against UF when our whole team had given up, other than that he is out there running hard and attempting to get free from double coverage. If you believe anyone could come in and fill in Hunter's role next to CP then you are ridiculously mislead. Another factor that has dropped his production is the fact that the coaching staff has tried to limit the amount of deep balls thrown, Hunter's bread and butter.

The fact that anybody on here is calling one of our players a puss and personally attacking him is disgusting and just proves all the more how many lowlifes are apart of this fanbase. There is a correct way to discuss Hunter's drop in performance, but this is not it, see any of the other countless threads for the correct way instead of bashing one of the classiest guys on our team, and chose to come to UT even though this place was an absolute wreck when he got here.

play like a puss to get to the NFL or will he grow a set of balls and catch the ball regardless of getting hit?? i hope herman told him he better and if not they gonna injure him in practice. this me first bs has to stop. it's time to win and catching the ball when thrown your way helps do that.

I dont agree with hurting our own but he does need to man up and catch the damn ball.

Making a catch and you know your fixin to get blasted is part of football it will happen at the next level too. Pulling and not making the catch because you dont wanna get hit because of you future is selfish. Im not running the young man in the ground its constructive criticism

You will win the most idiotic post of the week.

Wow. Leader in the clubhouse for classiest post of the year. To answer your question, if he's smart he'll do the former. Getting paid to support the family you referenced should be priority number one.

Last I heard, he was STILL in college and should play like that. He could slip in the shower and twist his knee, does that mean he shouldn't take showers anymore?

Hunter has fallen out of the 1st rd anyway. hes not proven he can get open without 21 drawing a double and scouts will not gamble on his knee.

He'll take the pussy road. I'm certain.

he has definitely been a disappointment. almost cowardly in the way he plays now...
makes losing darick hurt a little - he would be coming up big late in games instead of disappearing like hunter does

I hope you are not serious. No way I would take a receiver in the first round that has proven NOTHING, except he is scared to be hit. Playing like a wounded girl. FACT

I think not playing like a "puss" will help him be more prepared for the NFL. Where everyone is bigger stronger faster. Yet, with these new frequently called Unnecessary Roughness penalties in the NFL. Maybe it pays to be a "puss".

Common knowledge that it takes a player 2 full years to get back 100% from knee surgery. First year is physical recovery & the second year is mental recovery.

Look at Lattimore. Many of his runs have been tentative in the first part of the year. He doesn't have the same reckless abandon he had before the surgery.

Friend of mine had knee surgery 14 months ago. Completely healed but he still has questions in the back of his mind. Even little things like putting his foot down when he stops his motorcycle at a red light, he wonders if his knee is going to hold.

There is no way to speed up the mental process. Every one, athlete or regular joe, goes through it.

...especially when you have the kind of measurables that Hunter has. A freak injury like that is very hard to overcome psychologically.
