It clearly does not say that. Sankey has no authority over hires. The bylaw only requires that schools consult with SEC office and Sankey before hiring any coach that has participated in or been disciplined in major infractions. Now Sankey surely has a lot of influence that could affect this, but ultimately, we can hire whoever we want.

Fortunately for him, those weren't his only options. And I would assume most coaches would prefer to be a HC at just about any D1 school over an OC. I mean why didn't Kiffin just stay at Bama?

Well there are but I'm not going to argue with you because you think your right and thats fine, when I was there there was a certain coach that we wanted but the SEC shot it down, I know this first hand I was right there when the news was broke to coach.

Not going to say, but I know then the SEC looked down on anyone that was associated with a coach that received that penalty but it may be a bit different now, look at Bruce Pearl, he's back in the SEC. So I'm not going to swear up and down that your wrong it may have changed since I was on the hill, it's been awhile😁

The operative word in the by-laws was "consult". There was no suggestion of "approval" or "consent" being necessary. This is a dumb argument because of...well, English.

But then again it's PVF.

I played for coach Fulmer in the early 2000's, started out as a walk on put on scholarship my JR year, the LSU game in 01 still haunts me to this day

Well, forgive me if I remain skeptical. I wasn't asking for details merely the coaches name and a year. Are you worried you could be that easily recognized?

Also, as far as the "consulting" goes, yes an AD is required to "consult" with the commisioner on hires involving someone that has been sanctioned but they're not required to go with an opinion they do not agree with. The question really is, do they have the nerve to do as they see fit?

You'll hear nothing but crickets on this post, the NegaVols will not like it. I get a kick out of these guys thinking the SEC office doesn't have any power. I guess the 40+ million dollar check we get from them each year means we can do what we want whenever we want and the hell with their rules.

I'm not disrespectful. I just have a hard time believing a story without any backup. Really? Who's it going to hurt to put the name out there. It was 20 years ago.
