How long until we compete for the East

I think Tennessee will be “competitive” for the East right now.

Don’t get me wrong or anything......I’m not saying they “are” the best; however I do think they could “compete” for the best team in East Tennessee........right now.

Tend to agree but the way Pruitt is clinging despite everything that's been brought to light reminds me of the cockroach who can survive an atomic blast. So long as Cornbred stays, we are in prime position to hoist a trophy if there is thermonuclear armageddon.
...and to never hoist a trophy until there is thermonuclear armageddon.

As of today, How long do you think it will take before we compete for the East?
I know there are unknown variables with current coaching situation and investigation.
Thoughts?
From today? Honestly, 4-5 years. It can be done in 3, but that isn't the norm. I'm not on board with the "win championships by year 3" train, however I do need to see development, improvement, and there shouldn't be any red flags like we saw with CJP this past season. You have to look at who is winning and how they are built, and with UGA & UF we have two different examples. UGA is all talent with suspect coaching. They have roped in top 3 classes consistency in the last decade, but there haven't been any Heisman winners or super star first round picks, nor any other memorable individual trophy winners or outstanding players. That tells me that staff lacks in player development. Not to mention the coaching has made some questionable in game decisions over the years that has always left them a bridesmaid, but never a bride. UF's talent and recruiting is on par with our own, but with better coaching, so they are winners. They make average HS players into superstars. That staff does well in player development and is capable of making the players believe they are better. So, until UT does either - or both - of these things, we will be in the middle to the bottom of the East.

Sorry for the long post, just my thoughts about it.

Well we haven't won the conference in 22 years and we haven't won the East in 13. So.... I'd say any day now

That is a wide open question but if things remain as they are now....no time soon. 1.) IF Ga, and Fla get into some type of trouble with the NCAA or lose a coach and we come out of this with no major penalties and keep our current coach 2 years after that happens and it will be short term success. 2.) IF either Ga. or Fla lose a coach or gets NCAA sanctions and we keep the current coach then we will be an also ran. 3.)IF any of the two previous happen and we get a new staff and the same AD remains and the same mindset remains at the upper levels then we will still be an also ran.(AD wants to have his boys in there so he can still have his paws on it and mindset is just keep the money coming and we will live with the results.) 4.) If we get a NEW coach a NEW AD and NEW mindset around the Athletic Dept and Administration then with the perfect hire 2-4 years with continuous improvement is the best we can hope for.

I feel it hinges on this next hire. It could be 3 years or 30.

I have a bad feeling though and don't think they make a good hire.

I think it's at least another decade of irrelevance.

Not too long, possibly next season. Flordia has some real issues and Georgia is not going to be the same.

Maryville would destroy them lol

I know we’re mostly joking, but Tennessee prob would have a hard tome with some of the teams.

Maryville wouldn’t be one of them though. 3-7 D3 vs an 85 scholarship team......would = destruction......the same reason Tennessee eventually blew out Vandy.

Well, the new mediocre, bargain basement coach will have to get his 'own players' in here, so that will take 3 years. By then, he will have lost enough games that the vocal locals will be after his neck and then we'll fire him after 3 years and start over, then he'll need another 3 years and we will wash, rinse and repeat. It's what Tennessee fans want. So I'm saying maybe, definitely, never.

So we should keep the next bargain basement coach instead of firing him after 3 years of underperforming the recruited talent?
