How do we know Gruden could recruit at the level he would need to?

Every kid that has watched MNF for the last few years would love having that guy in their living room...and for that matter...so would the parents. Besides, the guy is legendary for his 3:30 a.m office arrivals to start the work day. His intensity is tailor-made for the college level. He knows the traditions and importance of Tennessee Football in the state. He's fit and would represent the program well. He knows X's and O's. He would draw a VERY talented staff to surround himself with. He would sell tickets from day one JUST to see him on our sideline. I was at the first game (vs. Cal in 1977) when Johnny Majors was hired and came home after winning the national title at Pitt the previous year. That atmosphere would pale in comparison to Gruden's arrival back in Knoxville.

Any further questions?

Amen

He ran a power run/west coast passing offense. His defense at TB was the Tampa 2 but he didn't have a choice in DC there, In Oakland it was the same thing I believe and he was forced into having Bresnehen. Bresnehen runs a base 4-3. I don't think Gruden is a defensive minded coach as he is known as a QB guru and playcalling mastermind.

Gruden learned from Bill Walsh, but I honestly believe after watching his QB camp shows on ESPN the past few years he could develop a playbook that would make brent pease look like he needed to get on the short bus. (look at pease's boise state films and how he would confuse defenses and exploit matchups)

I must say as a female and I love the game, I love listening to Jon call a game.. He has the most knowledge of the game and players ever, his preparations pregame and game calling is like no other... A guy that does his homework just to call a game must do it as a coach!!! Oh, and he calls Peyton the Sheriff, gotta love him!!!!

Lol. I guess Mike Tirico would be a great hire too.

You've convinced everyone. Dooley is the man, Jon Gruden sucks. He was the youngest offensive coordinator, youngest head coach, youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl because he can do ESPN commentary.

This pretty much sums it up.

Never said I would commit to Tennessee if Gruden became the HC. Don't know where that rumor came from.?

Impressionable young men that want to make allot of money.....can't blame them now can you?

Successful NFL coach with a Super Bowl win.
Commentator on Monday Night Football

I think that's about all he'd need to get the attention of these young men.

Kiffin was god awful in the NFL and look at how he recruits every year. Sure, he gets caught cheating but he always has stacked teams. Every single recruit in the country (especially QB's) know who Gruden is and they respect him. I've seen his show where he breaks down all the best QBs about to head to the NFL and they're in awe of him. If he comes here, recruiting will not even enter my mind as a worry
