How do we know Gruden could recruit at the level he would need to?

All the diverse theories are interesting because I am totally opposite. I feel like his recruiting power would be his biggest asset in Knoxville.
and it may very well be. I just think it is interesting that many think Gruden is the answer when there would still be something for him to prove as a college coach.

Every kid that has watched MNF for the last few years would love having that guy in their living room...and for that matter...so would the parents. Besides, the guy is legendary for his 3:30 a.m office arrivals to start the work day. His intensity is tailor-made for the college level. He knows the traditions and importance of Tennessee Football in the state. He's fit and would represent the program well. He knows X's and O's. He would draw a VERY talented staff to surround himself with. He would sell tickets from day one JUST to see him on our sideline. I was at the first game (vs. Cal in 1977) when Johnny Majors was hired and came home after winning the national title at Pitt the previous year. That atmosphere would pale in comparison to Gruden's arrival back in Knoxville.

Any further questions?

All you have to do is watch that Grudens QB camp he does before the draft. Look at how the QBs listen and how he interacts with them.

You make some points that he has never proven at the college level. Would like to see some actual proof because NFL success doesn't equal college success & vice versa.

Recruiting is about being charismatic and a good salesman for the university. His success in the NFL and the fact that every football fan knows who he is would be a huge plus.

I think the better question would be does he want to deal with the grind of recruiting.

I think it is a good question and worthy of discussion.

In all honesty the MNF card would mean more than the SuperBowl....while there are very few that would be guaranteed recruiters....when you are sitting in a 5 star's living room they want to know about one thing. Can you get me into the first round at the next level? Gruden is qualified to do that.

Tennessee in spite of there record the last 5 years is still a place top recruits consider. SEC, 102,000 fans, great facilities and Peyton Manning. John Gruden is an added bonus, there are currently 2 5 star recruits leaning towards Tennessee thinking Dooley will be there coach, do you really think they're gonna say, um, Gruden, no thanks I wanted to play for Dooley, and Im anything but a Dooley hater. We get 4 star players, we need 5 star, the difference makers, and thats what Gruden would be the difference maker.

As I said, Jon Gruden is a winner. It does not matter on what level he "won". I'll take my chances on an NFL Super Bowl champion with ties to the Tennessee program.

Look at where we are right now...if indeed we did get Gruden the talent level would have to go up peroid. At this point what we have can't compete in the SEC...it's almost like we have to make a change because I really don't think there is any way to go but UP! Damn, we can't settle for being the bottom feeder in the SEC....we have to do something!

I think we are more on the same page than you may think. I am not sure he would have any interest in walking away from MNF. It has to be one of the best gigs in football and the travel is nothing compared to what he would have to do in college. The pressure is also nothing compared to what this fan base would put on him from day 1.

How do you get he's a winner? His head coaching record is barely over .500 & he got worse after his first year Super Bowl win. That looks more like Gene Chizik.

I think the fan base would be much more patient than you think, and that the team would be better after the first practice.

What do we have to make us think this would be the case? Sure he has won a Super Bowl and been successful in the NFL. Why is it guaranteed that he would be such a great recruiter and keep up with the rest of the SEC? What is his college coaching experience outside of being a GA?

BTW, I have added a link to his coaching history here and he should have a couple of years of recruiting experience under his belt.

There is no guarantee that he can get the job done but there is one position that we would get the best player in the country year after year. QB. His QB analysis show he does is pretty good to watch that would draw instant badass QB's to town.

I think bottom line is that nothing would be guaranteed with any coach. We all have our opinion of who we would want and Gruden would be at the top of my wish list along with many of you. Whoever comes in has their work cut out for them and will have to work their butt off.

Oh...I will personally guarantee they (no matter who is hired) will be better than what we have.
