and it may very well be. I just think it is interesting that many think Gruden is the answer when there would still be something for him to prove as a college coach. All the diverse theories are interesting because I am totally opposite. I feel like his recruiting power would be his biggest asset in Knoxville.
Dude, I like your response. :dance2:Every kid that has watched MNF for the last few years would love having that guy in their living room...and for that matter...so would the parents. Besides, the guy is legendary for his 3:30 a.m office arrivals to start the work day. His intensity is tailor-made for the college level. He knows the traditions and importance of Tennessee Football in the state. He's fit and would represent the program well. He knows X's and O's. He would draw a VERY talented staff to surround himself with. He would sell tickets from day one JUST to see him on our sideline. I was at the first game (vs. Cal in 1977) when Johnny Majors was hired and came home after winning the national title at Pitt the previous year. That atmosphere would pale in comparison to Gruden's arrival back in Knoxville.
Any further questions?

You make some points that he has never proven at the college level. Would like to see some actual proof because NFL success doesn't equal college success & vice versa.
I think we are more on the same page than you may think. I am not sure he would have any interest in walking away from MNF. It has to be one of the best gigs in football and the travel is nothing compared to what he would have to do in college. The pressure is also nothing compared to what this fan base would put on him from day 1.Recruiting is about being charismatic and a good salesman for the university. His success in the NFL and the fact that every football fan knows who he is would be a huge plus.
I think the better question would be does he want to deal with the grind of recruiting.
As I said, Jon Gruden is a winner. It does not matter on what level he "won". I'll take my chances on an NFL Super Bowl champion with ties to the Tennessee program.

What do we have to make us think this would be the case? Sure he has won a Super Bowl and been successful in the NFL. Why is it guaranteed that he would be such a great recruiter and keep up with the rest of the SEC? What is his college coaching experience outside of being a GA?
BTW, I have added a link to his coaching history here and he should have a couple of years of recruiting experience under his belt.

Oh...I will personally guarantee they (no matter who is hired) will be better than what we have.I think bottom line is that nothing would be guaranteed with any coach. We all have our opinion of who we would want and Gruden would be at the top of my wish list along with many of you. Whoever comes in has their work cut out for them and will have to work their butt off.
