How do we know Gruden could recruit at the level he would need to?

Gruden had 6 winning seasons, 3 losing seasons, and 2 .500 seasons, sir. I'm not sure why you call our need for a new head football coach with a proven record of winning "being on a wagon". Do you have another suggestion? If so, whom?
Not necessarily directed to you TXVol. Just putting this out there for folks to see.

Gruden is 14 games over .500. His coaching record is 95-81. He had 4 really good NFL seasons of 10+ wins (00-02 and 05).

Why are you calling him a proven winner? Never coached a college game. Who knows if he can actually recruit. Maybe he can come in & win his first year & go 2-10 in his 3rd.[/QUOTE

I'm not going to waste more time showing the data to you because you choose to ignore it. If you choose not to support the idea of Jon Gruden as our next head football coach because he "...hasn't coached on the college level"....that's fine. Who do you like and why? You never answered that question. You're just a "NO" voice in a world starving for YES answers. You look foolish saying someone's not a proven winner when he obviously is one. The data and record speaks for itself. If you have your way, Auburn will hire him and we'll lose to them next Fall....AGAIN.

Lol @ the data. He's a proven winner 1 year at least.

More wins than losses...more winning seasons than losing ones...more Superbowls won than lost...he lives in East TN and you live in a suburb of Greenville. I think that says it all.

I'm from East Tennessee. I moved like Gruden. If you wanna split hairs he won one Super Bowl & lost 10. Are you willing to accept a 10 loss year for two 10 win seasons? Nope.

ask Fat Charlie Weis about that one :whistling:

JG is charismatic, energetic, one of the most famous coaches in the world and was the head coach of a Superbowl team. He is everything the fat-ass to which you are referencing isn't. He would be an absolute closer with recruits. "Hi, I'm Jon f'n Gruden and you are gonna be a Vol".

Why does everyone that doubts Gruden need to start a new thread about it?

It's the same thing every time.

So Gene Chizik is a winner? Just curious. He has a national championship.

Google Chizik's arrival / greeting to Auburn. He rode a great player in the perfect offense for that player to his title. Seriously?

Google Gruden's resume.

You're on an island, and you're wrong on Gruden. Anyone with objectivity can see that Gruden has won everywhere he's been. If we're waiting on a coach that's never had a losing season at all, then we'll be here a while. Once again, I ask: WHO is your better candidate? We can do this all night...your call.

Im on an island? I'm wrong on Gruden? It's not like he quit when he was on top. His resume is so erratic it's hard to tell what he's actually done. I guess you're sold on those qb episodes where he rattles off some verbiage & tries to make those guys feel awkward & uncomfortable while he likes to hear himself talk & seem knowledgable. Dooley is a good talker fwiw.

Yes, that's what impressed me most. FWIW...I do like Spartanburg, too. :)

I live at the end of the earth here...I'd love to live in the upstate again. Do you travel to the games often?

Hit & miss. Sometimes I'll go to 2-3 games & sometimes lucky if I make 1. I usually go to Columbia when we play there but noon game squashed that. Where is the end of the earth?

The gulf coast of Texas...lovely Corpus Christi. If I were you, I'd take in a Clemson game now and then.

Lol 2 teams? He LEFT Oakland & they went. His first year at Tampa he won & got worse after. Hard to say he's a winner with not much better than a .500 record. Why did he get worse after his initial, first year Super Bowl win & never even get back? Why did Oakland go after he left? It's not college where he recruited a stable for the next coach.

You do realize TB gave up their first round picks in both 2002 and 2003 as well as their 2nd round picks in both 2002 and 2004 in order to get Gruden? Not to mention $8mil in cash. That's a lot of assets that they were without Gruden's first three years there. You'd like to think that 4 more top 2 picks plus money to spend on free agents could've changed things.

I have but not lately. I like watching my Byrnes Rebels play for state titles there instead of that dump in Columbia.

So a couple rookies would have made that big of a difference? Doubt it.

Under Gruden, the Raiders posted consecutive 8–8 seasons in 1998 and 1999, and after being the AFC West dweller. Gruden led the Raiders to the top of the AFC West and made the playoffs two straight seasons Oakland finished 12–4 in the 2000 season, the team's most successful in a decade, and its first division title since 1990 and lost to Baltimore in the playoffs.
They finished 10–6 and won a second straight AFC West title but lost to NE after the phanton BS tuck rule play was called. Oakland has been irrelevant every since Gruden left. After compiling a 40–28 win-loss record (including playoffs) in four seasons with the Raiders, Gruden replaced the fired Tony Dungy as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, via a high-stakes trade that included Tampa Bay's 2002 and 2003 first-round draft picks, 2002 and 2004 second-round draft picks, and $8 million in cash. He re-tooled the Offense and TB won the Super Bowl. TB lost multiple draft picks, injuries, and salary cap issues that caused the demise of TB. Knowledge is power. Listen to this guy break down schemes on MNF. If the SEC could get any better, guess what it will very soon. SEC coaches will s---- in their pants. Saban will head to the NFL more than likely. A--------- whippings are coming soon. Enjoy the f=========== ride.
