Hendrix opens up about transfer

It happens. When you start bringing in big time recruits some leave because they feel they have better opportunities at other schools. I feel like he would have seen significant playing time next year but I think he wants to be a big fish in a small pond and that's not going to happen on the d line with the guys coming in next year.

Geez. We're so conditioned to find the drama, the good guy and the bad guy, the crisis. Hey, for whatever reason, the kid wasn't happy here. Probably wasn't all his own failing, probably wasn't all Butch's; the reality is some unconsidered and complex shade of gray in between, just like the rest of life. There are plenty of things in life to get all worked up about (sometimes even including problems in our football program) but this ain't it.

Good future to you, Hendrix. Better future to you, Vols, because I'm biased. Amen, and dammit, my glass is empty.

so when UT players transfers, they are quitters who suck.

but when you all are begging for UAB and Nebraska transfers, you love them all

pathetic.

Hey buddy, UAB doesn't play football anymore and Nebraska's coach got canned.

Maybe read the news or get out of the basement for some fresh air sometime.

D. Hendrix? Never heard of her! He was supposed to play D line? Hmm. Barnett, Maggit, Tuttle, and McKenzie don't need any weak links anyways.

Talk about pathetic. Not a lot of logic in half of your statement. UAB dropped their football program and if the kids still want to play football, they have to transfer to another school. If you want to take a jab at Tennessee, at least have your statements accurate.

Pretty amazing the names a young man gets called because he decided to leave a situation that made him unhappy.

It's unfortunate he was unhappy getting a free education, living in the nicest dorm on campus, eating the best food on campus, training in $50 million facilities, playing football infront of 102k people and all the other perks that come with playing football at UT

See, it is not so hard to give a fair criticism without resorting to insulting the guy.

It probably became a downward spiraling cycle. Hendrix got unhappy because of his place on the team. He started moping and showing a bad attitude. Coaches saw it and got onto him. He moped more. Coaches coached more....

I think alot of people here on VN need to chill out and grow up.

Think about what you're saying as if this was your son.

Think about what the kids we're trying to recruit and their parents might think seeing people on here belittling this unhappy kid.

In every sport everyone already knows it's next man up despite if they get hurt or leave a program.

These are KIDS and lots of kids leave home for the 1st time and find that college classes alone are really tough.

Add in sports and all the time and extra work that requires and some kids just can't handle it.

Some were superstars in high school with lots of coaches trying to recruit them and their head gets swollen and they think it's going to be easy to be a instant starter.

Then reality hits and they learn that it's really hard when everyone else is also a great player.

They may miss their family or their old girlfriend or just be plain old homesick.

Kids all over the country get that way and quit and go home, it's nothing new.

Most every serious coach in the country is going to yell, scream and curse to try to get the best out of every kid they really believe can become a much bwetter player, that's real life in every sport.

That's also real life in the NFL or any other professional sport.

Many kids just need to go home, learn about reality and grow up some before they try college again, or never try again and just quit and get a job.

Some kids in sports can't handle the serious competition and need to go to a smaller school that plays much weaker opponents.

Some are smart and they can see that new recruits coming in will make them a 3rd stringer and they'll hardly ever get to lso they want to go somewhere that they'll get to play alot.

Everyone that's played football and loves the game should understand wanting to be on the field playing instead of riding the bench.

Some kids just aren't mentally tough enough but be classy and just wish them well and let it go.

I hope every new recruit turns into a superstar for our Vols but that's not going to happen and some will leave but another will be right behind them begging for the chance to run through the T.

Sorry to see you leave Tennessee young man but I wish you all the best and I hope you can find somewhere to be happy.

I hope you don't look back in a year or 2 and seriously regret this decision like many others have in the past when they left a great program.

We are Tennessee and we'll always be here fighting to get back to the top where we were for so long and where all our traditions demand we return to.

Do you even think before you post? UAB ended their program, so the players have no where to play football right now. They didn't quit on their program, their program quit on them! Nebraska just fired their HC and there are normally transfers related to that as well. Nice apples to bowling balls comparison.

To relay your own quote: "pathetic"

Not a big deal. There's still quite a few players that seem to love the coaches. He's a talented guy, and as long as he puts in the work he will succeed. Best of luck to him.

I love me some Butch Jones. Was hoping for him even before he was hired and defended the hire after people were like "who is he?". He's done nearly everything right to this point. However, his coaching style and the berating of players on the mic is absolutely going to turn some players off and I wish he would tone it down "a little". The players leaving are highly rated and talented players that are not leaving due to drugs, bad attitudes, grades or any of the other normal reasons that players usually transfer for. I think coaches can learn something from these types of transferring players and use it to become better at what they do. Not wholesale changes mind you...just tweaks.

Funny that Barnett has nothing but praise for our staff while Hendrix didn't appreciate the way the coaches spoke to him.

its not earth shattering every athlete has different buttons that can be pushed. Maybe Barnett responds well to tough coaching and hendrix doesnt. also barnett was pretty darn good out of the gate and hendrix is more of a development player so maybe they cut barnett a little more slack than they did hendrix
