Helton Poll - Good Job or Bad Job?

There seems to be some debate on Helton’s performance this season as OC. Some say he’s done great, some days he’s done poorly.

I just wanted to get a better feel for how the fan base feels.

play calling with the exception of a game or two has been horrendous!!!! While the OL has made the offense appear neutered, I do not have great confidence that he will be a longterm Coach at UT.

One season isn't enough to say "WOW! I want that man to spawn children who become coaches!" or "He should never be allowed to procreate and pollute the gene pool!"

I think he’s done fine so far, and I’m reserving further judgement until we have more horses to run a race than we do mules.

Doesn't seem to be much debate. >80% are voting YES.

Some of the frustration has to be with our OL's inability to do anything. I don't think that's necessarily on the coaches -- although I'm not willing to give them a free pass, either. And, as I've said before, I think Pruitt is trying to establish a mentality of toughness this season that he hopes will carry over into next year. I suspect that's why we continue to run up the middle and don't always look as "creative" as we fans would like.

So I'm willing to give Pruitt, Helton and the other coaches a mulligan for this season. I think we all have to whether we like it or not. But next year...we better see some big improvements.

He has a grade of D+ from me. Yes we beat 2 top 15 teams. However, the lack of design, scheming and play calling have been prettt poor this season. We haven’t run a single counter play all year. Offense is predictable. Zero setting up of other plays for later in the game. It’s been bad.

Mulligan for all the first-timers (OC/TE/RB) coaching their positions and not having a lot of players yet. But last chance. I totally expect massive improvement next year.

Great games against Auburn and UK. Florida was just awful and Charlotte was weird.

Helton could call more plays with TE sets to protect JG. I don’t understand why that doesn’t happen more often.

The OL is abysmal I have to keep reminding myself that Helton is playing handicapped.

When I keep seeing JG get his clock cleaned by the same D Line/ LB schemes and no change in the way JG is setting in the backfield with very little movement, either moving up into the pocket, (when there is a pocket) or at least moving to his right to protect himself, what am I to make of that? In four counts, JG is on the ground. Very slow release or so it appears. That is not going to get much better. Tell me how you can run deep routes with JG on his back. Scheme something to keep from getting him killed. He does not have to prove his toughness.

I like Coach P. I will take him any day over what we have had in the last 10 years. Go VOLS.!!!

Right behind OL, TE is the second-worst unit at this time. Wood-Anderson is the only capable TE for the scheme, and exacerbates the problems on the OL.

He’s done fine for the offensive line he’s been dealt with
