HBO's "Game of Thrones"

I want to say GRRM has been un-receptive to the idea of people helping him or finishing the series.

And since he's working on a Targaryan backstory book series, I'm half expecting Winds of Winter to come out after the HBO series is finished.
I think at this point it will be post-season 8 before WoW comes out because it would only confuse show watchers who aren't up on the book story and provide book readers with more barbs to hurl at D&D for deviating from the book storylines.

I know he is not ever going to do that, but he will probably end up dying like Jordan before he finishes. I just hope he has a good writer picked out in case, and fleshed out enough story arcs for someboidy else to complete it.

From what I've read he's said absolutely not. If he dies before the story is done, then it dies with him. That's just hearsay though, just what I've read on other sites.

I believe the Targaryen book is called "Fire and Blood" and the last update I heard, said it and "Winds of Winter" would be out this winter and if late again, they would definitely be out before season 8 on HBO.

Last thing I saw was GRRM saying he thinks "one Westeros book out in 2018, maybe two, a boy can hope" or something like that. He's still "months away (how many? good question)".

Although he didn't specify which, I thought it was said he's pretty far along on the first Fire and Blood book. I would guess that's what will release first.

Anything I've seen is just articles on the Internet. Not from forums.

When will Winds of winter finally release? I'd find it hard to believe anyone could say with any accuracy. Even GRRM.

Jordan didn't like the idea of someone else finishing his series until he was staring at his finish line. Sanderson would be a good choice. He has shown an ability to assume another author's voice when given an outline to use. I'm a Wheel of Time fan and have become a Sanderson fan since his involvement with that series.

Me too.

One more thought on the Wheel of Time...Now that is how you do a bittersweet ending. It's just a great story.

Welp, 9 books in and now I know that happens. Didn't know I needed to watch our for WoT spoilers here.

Thanks for that.

Holy crap..I'm sorry man. I mean that series has been done for years now, and I didn't even think about it, it's like talking about The Lord Of the Rings to me, I figured after 25 freaking years everybody that cared about that story had already read it..but I am sorry...I mean you have seen or read LOTR haven't you?

I didn't...Taking Egwene out was plenty enough for me, and she went out like a boss...also Rand al'Thor = Ultimate Bada$$ 😎

I thought Lan and Rand's sacrificed should have been honored. They offered their lives to save the world. Let them die. I hated Egwene and cheered her death though I admit she did indeed go out like a boss.
I am excited about the prospect of this being a show though. The series is completed so less likely to be butchered.

Just got into fantasy series with ASOIAF. Was recommended to try WOT a year or so ago.

I love Sanderson. The Stormlight Archives has been amazing so far. I can't wait for the new book in November.

Well just keep reading it, you will enjoy it I believe, especially once you hit the last three books. IMO Sanderson did an awesome job. I thank RJ for the very rich and detailed wotld he created, but I think he sorta lost his way, he was just wandering toward the finish. If he had lived he would still be writing the end.

Yeah RJ's pacing has really slowed over the last couple books. The world building is second to none though. I'm really looking forward to Sanderson's contributions after reading some of his other work.

I highly recommend The Stormlight Archives if you haven't read them. It's only 2 books in right now with the third coming out in a couple months.

ASOIAF has convinced me not to start unfinished series. I read the first Mistborn. I am sorely tempted to start the Way of Kings but it's supposed to be 10 in that one and he is only on 3 now. Waiting forever for 8 books sounds like hell now.

I read the first 10 books a couple years back and haven't gotten around to finishing it yet. Once I saw it come up I knew spoilers were coming so I skimmed over post haha.

Yea. Same here. On one hand ASOIAF is outstanding......but there's still at least 2 more books......and GRRM is very slow about making progress. I'd hate to be so deep into a story and never know how it ends.

I know he's had some strong comments towards people that have asked him what will happen with the series if he dies before he finishes, but I'd take that as a compliment if I were him.

Fair point for sure. Waiting through 7 more books is going to be pretty painful. He's been averaging about 3 years per book.

I've finished the first trilogy in the Mistborn series. I liked it a lot, but TSA is just on another level IMO. I haven't read a ton of fantasy, but it's my favorite series through two books.
