Guarantano "Erratic" at Manning Camp

Any conversation about JG versus KC and how badly we need one of them to be good is overblown.

Our offensive problems last year began and largely ended with the offensive line. If we had just a decent offensive line last year, we would've won at least 2 more games than we did.

So 6 would have been good?

Many of JG's problems in the pocket would be resolved if he could really learn "the float" discussed in the post. He needs not to be such a static target.

Exactly half the time if he would have just stepped up in the pocket he would have had more time, because his lineman could have regained control of the rusher. This is a much needed skill and it is good he is working on it.

So 6 would have been good?

They weren't a particularly "good" team last year by any measure. However, they should have beaten Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky last year, even within the context of how rotten they played in those specific games. To be fair they should have lost to Tech. So yes, they "should have" probably won 6 games last year and gone to some podunk bowl.

That's not "good," but better than 4-8 (0-8). I'll put it this way...it shouldn't have been the worst season in school history last year. Even considering injuries, it should've never gotten that bad. The worst season in school history should be in a year where you have some of the worst talent in school history relative to your peers. That wasn't the case.

If the O-line was simply halfway decent - they didn't even have to be good - they would've probably been a 7-win team, which is where a lot of prognosticators had them before last season and I believe where the Vegas over/under was. Chance for 8 wins with a bowl. Butch is still here, IMO, if that was what ended up happening.

Different staff, different outcomes. Much better coaches this time. I feel a lot better about JG coming back from MPA than I did about Dobbs. DeBord was very underrated here.

Too bad the new savior staff can’t block for our QBs.

Didn't say Dormady was Manning but that doesn't make him Guarantano either. That was the worst SEC QB we had played all year. No pocket presence. He held the ball so long it's a wonder we didn't kill the guy.

Helps to have pocket presence when there is something that resembles a pocket. Not guys coming untouched through the A gap

Overall, they were probably both equally bad, although Dormady was actually better at getting the ball out. JG at least at times could scramble and make something out of nothing; QD was a statue.

QB is likely to be a position of weakness for the next couple of years.

TuskTimes, what's your perspective on why the better qb of the two was the one to leave?

Anyone who thinks Chryst isnt gonna be our starter is pulling the race card.

I dont care if our QB is blue.

I just want a good one and a 5th year senior with an NFL family isnt gonna move across the country to ride the bench.

Doesn’t matter what his INTENTIONS are. And your race card point was confusing.

As long as our QB can get the ball to go where he wants it to then I’m fine. If he can’t hit his spot then we have problems.

Wrong routes and such will happen, but a QB has to be able to throw the ball where he wants to.

"As long as our QB can get the ball to go where he wants it to then I’m fine."

He better look 'em off before he throws accurately as in the SEC he'll watch it go for the 6 the other way if he doesn't. Also, our WR play has been really bad compared to UGA whose WRs have been very very good. Go back and watch some vid of Eason and Fromme both the last two seasons and see how many times the UGA QBs put the ball where it was not supposed to go yet the WRs were coached up to go get it if it was anywhere in their vicinity. We haven't had anything remotely like that at our WR position except for Jennings outmuscling defenders from time to time.

:eek:lol::crazy::crazy::blink::ermm::unsure:

What are you talking about? So all the writers and experts who cover the team that think JG will start are basing it on race?

Maybe that is what you are judging on, and projecting on to others. :good!:

People think JG will start because Chryst had a worse JR year than JG's freshman.

Even when I agree with your overall point, I cringe when you revert to your pet “all the experts” core roots. :pinch: They haven’t even practiced on the same field yet. There is no consensus among the writing and talking heads. Wait for reality to happen before declaring it.

I didn't say "all the experts" said he would start. There are some that think Chryst will start. I was just asking if he was really claiming that any writer who thinks JG will start was basing it on race. The "experts" have been split on the matter with more saying they think JG will start.

Name one other than this guy. I haven’t seen any state explicitly one or the other.

A lot of the local guys have said it. Ainge says it all the time. Some think Chryst will start. Not looking up a bunch of links and tweets. Its safe to say that some think JG will start and some think Chryst will start.

“A lot”. Name ONE. You keep doing this! Half the time I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but you’ve been trotting this methodology out since Torrance Gibson. :pinch:

And Ainge doesn’t count because he has no real base of perspective on Chryst that we don’t have. He’s filling time. I doubt he’s placed any wagers either way.

Edited already but give me a quote that he says “all the time”. You should have it memorized but paraphrase if you like.

He has said several times "Guarantao will start and he will surprise a lot of people with the jump he makes this year. He has also gained about 18lbs since last year."

Anytime the qb starting situation is discussed or asked about he says the exact same thing.

See? Not that difficult. His opinion which I still don’t acknowledge as expert but it’s an educated opinion. He also predicted Butch would return, so that’s where we’re at. Long way from a string of experts that you could graph a pie chart from. Maybe after some practices.
