Guarantano "Erratic" at Manning Camp

Not the news I was hoping to here. The QB competition could be very interesting during fall camp.

Analyst: Vols' Guarantano 'erratic' but talented, hard worker

Jarrett Guarantano’s performance over the weekend at the annual Manning Passing Academy was something Tennessee fans should be familiar with, according to veteran Louisiana sportswriter, broadcaster and NFL Draft analyst Mike Detillier, who watched Guarantano at the event.

Detillier spoke with former former Tennessee wide receiver and current Knoxville radio host Jayson Swain on Wednesday morning, and his scouting report on Guarantano should sound familiar: big arm, talented arm, inconsistent but working extremely hard to change that.

“I’ll be honest with you, he was a little erratic throwing the ball, but that didn’t surprise me, because he’s working with receivers that he’s never worked with,” Detillier told Swain on The Swain Event. “You come here, you don’t bring the Tennessee Volunteer wide receivers with you. He’s working with receivers from Tulane, LSU, Nicholls State, Southeastern [Louisiana].

I'm not really buying the WR explanation. If that were true, wouldn't all of the QB's at the camp be "erratic"? I hope Helton helps him a great deal, but I'm starting to think Christ was brought in for more than just "motivation".

Bro you're bout to feel the wrath of the JG Squad. He's got a few too loyal supporters from Grown men on here, which is creepy to say the least. I'm all for supporting players but to the level some grown a$$ men defend him has me on creeper alert. Thanks for posting this!! Was a good read!

Ok okay D4H and KB sound a lot alike right now... I think everyone needs to relax and let it play out... neither deserve the job outright imo! With that said I hope JT wins the job😂

Will say this again as I did in another post, SWAIN IS A HACK........ plain and simple. He can't put 3 sentences together to save his life. Ainge had to spoon feed his passes and he didn't take hits well.

Not your brainiest rejoinder...

Speaking of ad hominems and hypocrisy but please continue...

“Golden boi” and the nickname comes across personal. :hmm:

Fallacy: Appeal to Emotion.

I see that you didn't flunk Debate, you never took the course. Ah but the mumbling master of smug self-indulgence, dons another layer of Emperor's new duds to favor us with a performance as subtle as a fart in a sardined elevator and twice as odoriferous. :snoring:

You don't catch 126 passes if you suck. He also caught a lot of passes from Casey and Rick Clausen as well.

Jason, never said he sucked, said he was spoon fed, from whomever threw the ball to him and couldnt take a hit. Watch the 2006 bama game...... proof is over whelming.

He sucks as a talk show host... big difference.

But I agree he had good numbers but his YAC was bad off.

You're right, I can definitely agree with that. I can't even listen to his show.

Is there anyone here who actually believes that Guarantano was a better QB than Dormady? I know he skipped town but he was the much better facilitator and frankly, it's not that close. If this QB from Stanford doesn't hurt himself falling out of the bus, he will be the guy this year.

I believe the verdict is in already. With all the QBs now on the staff or coming this staff does not trust JG.

😞

Strongly disagree. Was certain that when I was reading “not a natural....” it was gonna end with “runner”. But not a natural passer?

Imho, hes absolutely a natural passer, and a very good, accurate one at that. His issues arent physical, they’re mental in understanding where to go with the ball and when not to take a multitude of bad sacks....he holds onto the ball too long and doesn’t throw the ball away. But when he turns it loose, it’s as natural as any qb I’ve seen.

I'm not talking about the way the ball spins. It looks great the way he spends it. But his body mechanics are not very smooth or "natural".

Everything you mentioned about his mental progress at QB is true.
And because of that an average Keller Chryst will beat him out.

I saw improvement in the spring. He had more air on his passes when needed. But...it was still to low and more of a fastball.

JG is trying to be a leader and do the best things. But I'm just telling you right now.
The kid doesn't have it...

If i turn out to be wrong. Then GREAT. But as of now, I don't see that happening.

Yea. Anyone with eyes.

How was he better at "facilitating?" By completing 55%? By leading the SEC in turnovers? By forcing passes and missing open wrs?

Only a Bama guy would say Qd was better. lmao.

You the man Jason, keep preaching the truth and calling us out..... great poster!

Thanks man! I really didn't mean to call you out, I more misinterpreted what you were saying. That definitely can happen sometimes on message board's and even through texting. Keep posting brother!

Overall, they were probably both equally bad, although Dormady was actually better at getting the ball out. JG at least at times could scramble and make something out of nothing; QD was a statue.

QB is likely to be a position of weakness for the next couple of years.

Bammers crack me up dude. Just because Alabama is doing as good as they are, their fans think they know everything there is to know about football. Its like they have something to do with the success of the team and have to come over here and share their knowledge, like they want to help or something. Lol.

He has three years to start. How is that not accurate?

So are you saying Chryst has no more years to start?

I never said anything about, "after this year."

k-town, let it go. I think 99% of us understood what you said the first time.

Didn't say Dormady was Manning but that doesn't make him Guarantano either. That was the worst SEC QB we had played all year. No pocket presence. He held the ball so long it's a wonder we didn't kill the guy.

Well good thing Dormady didn't play yall because he was even worse.

JG did as well as could be expected vs yall. 9/16 in his second start vs the eventual National Champs with Botch coaching us.

And how much of your analysis is based on the type of offense that Jeremy Pruitt wants to put on the field? He's going to want to go downhill. He's going to be tightening up those gaps in the offensive line and he wants and will demand execution from his new QB. Power football is already putting Gaurantano behind the 8 ball.
