Greenland

So, is my tax dollars going to be used to fight NATO over this in my lifetime? And who is on our side when it kicks off? I see NATO members are in the process of strengthening their positions (militarily) in Greenland.

If he wants it, the last thing you would want is more military there.
I believe the person was saying that Trump just wanted “anyone” to defend it against Russia or China. The problem is that if you’re protecting against nuclear warheads, you don’t want just “anyone” defending you.

But we’re talking about all the suckers of the Republican Party.. They’ll believe anything that gives them the warm fuzzies inside.

And Russia and China aren't coming anytime soon if at all.

The only thing I can think of is
1.) end nato
2.) have them cooperate with russia because of #1... they're broke

If Rubio offers nearly one Trillion dollars to Greenland, where does it come from? Borrow from China? Will China hold the title to Greenland as collateral, then repocess when will fail to pay?

Print and issue bonds. $1T in gold and silver would be a whole other thing. You can't print land, you can't print oil/gas, and you can't print gold/silver.

We’re all broke because we outsourced manufacturing to 3rd world countries. We don’t produce more than we consume, so we accumulate debt to put off the inevitable crash.

The big beautiful (jk) bill impacts coming up now in 2026 -- lots of money coming into the market very soon - $3-5T.

The US did not “call in Article 5” like you are implying.

Since you are A fan of AI

did the us ask for article 5 to be invoked

In the history of NATO
the United States has never formally asked for Article 5 to be invoked
While Article 5 has been triggered only once—following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks—the initiative for this action did not come from a U.S. request:
  • Initiated by NATO: Following the 9/11 attacks, NATO Secretary General George Robertson suggested the invocation as a political statement of solidarity.
  • U.S. Reluctance: U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell initially indicated the United States had no interest in making such a request, though it would not object if NATO's governing body, the North Atlantic Council, acted independently.
  • Confirmation: On October 2, 2001, after receiving evidence that the attacks were directed from abroad, the North Atlantic Council confirmed the Article 5 invocation.

You're splitting hairs.

How it worked:
  • The United States informed NATO that it had been attacked and requested support.
  • On September 12, 2001, NATO’s member states collectively agreed to invoke Article 5, declaring that the attacks against the U.S. were an attack against all allies.
  • The invocation was conditional at first, and it became fully operative once it was determined the attacks were directed from abroad (by al-Qaeda).

What did I make up? Has the EU been contributing their fair share? Why has the US had to lead the way in Ukraine? How many European bases are in the US?

Laughable.

NATO reports that all member states (except Iceland who has no military) are expected to meet the 2% of GDP defense spending guideline for 2025. Some Eastern and Northern European countries (e.g., Poland, Baltic states) already spend well above 2% of GDP and are boosting capabilities.

So, YEAH, the EU is contributing what they're supposed to with NATO.

Here's the real question, Pancho... do you want the US to be the "leader of the free world" or not? Or do you want us to be a self-centered bunch of pussies? Make up your mind.

If yes, we're gonna have our military bases overseas.

HINT: This is how things work, bro.

As for Ukraine, same situation: We're either the military leader of the world or not.

Neither China nor Russia are trying to take over Greenland.

You're argument boils down to "we have to take over Greenland before China or Russia do", when there's zero threat of China or Russia invading Greenland.

You might as well say we have to take over Greenland before Zimbabwe does.

As for South America, sovereign nations don't relinquish their sovereignty because they share the same hemisphere with the US.

If you won't want South American countries turning to China, then the first step would probably be "stop being an imperialist dick to South American countries."
I don’t know who you are or who you know.
But this is not accurate.

We need rare earth minerals for our American War Machine. China has that market cornered for the moment. Ukraine and Greenland both have tons of it.

We need to control the northwest passage because The China and Russia have both been surveying the ocean floor in and around that whole area. China has been offering build ports in Greenland.

Trump is saying it all the time, but it’s not his call. Not really. This has been in the making for almost 100 years. NATO will give Greenland to the US.

It principle its not cool, but as buddy buddy as Putin is with Trump, Medvedv has no love for Americans even a little. Russia has sacrificed over a 1,000,000 of its own people in Ukraine. What do you think they would to do Americans if given the chance. China is even WORSE.
Greenlanders are nice people but they live in the wrong area, and it will be taken one way or another.

Oh reeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly. How so?

(This might be the worst post yet on this thread)
Instead of insulting just try to listen.

Greenlanders have done nothing wrong.

But if NATO has to chose between the allegiance of United States and our weapons (against Russian Aggression) or…Greenland.
Who do you think they will choose?

Dude. The United States is part of NATO.

If the US invades Greenland, *ALL* NATO members are obligated to come to the assistance of said invaded country.

Presuming Trump opts not to attack ourselves, this means that NATO ends an untimely death.

Who would Europe side with?

Methinks Europe sides with Europe. Which includes Denmark (hence Greenland).

And now the Orange Menace has created a war with our allies.

This WON'T happen because it CAN'T happen.

Our moronic "president" is 95% just slinging insults and empty threats at our friends.

They know this. I know this. You know this. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS.

Yet, here we are... debating whether our "NO NEW WARS" so-called "president" is going to INVADE OUR ALLY.

NATO have sent a combined force of soldiers as a display of force to engage military exercises with Denmark in Greenland.

34.

34 soldiers in total have been sent by France and other NATO nations.

If you haven't figured it out by now, there is no amount of money the US won't print regardless of President, party or who controls congress. And the jacked up machinations the .gov will go through to essentially wipe out the debt overnight will not only make your eyes water, it should scare the daylights out of everyone. If China and everyone else can figure this out tonight, they'll stop buying our debt entirely by tomorrow morning.

If subsidizing the defense of the free world is a requirement to be the leader then no, I don’t want us to be the leader. Now if the pu$$ies that need us to subsidize their defense want to commit to being lead and that means when we say jump they ask how high then yeah maybe it would be worth being the leader.
