Georgia would switch ...

No one thinks Kirby is doing a bad job. In fact, we are very sympathetic here on Vol Nation. We feel bad that Kirby always has and always will shat the bed in big games....
Hmmm...a SEC CHAMPIONSHIP in his second year. A playoff win against Oklahoma. Big wins and maybe I am wrong but you have to win a lot of big games to even get there. He has won some big games in 4 years including Notre Dame twice. He will get his national championship. As for Pruitt. There is a reason he wasn’t retained at Georgia. When he was defensive coordinator we were always guaranteed to get blown out by a good offensive coordinator every year. Difference now is that georgia expects to win games against good teams instead of hoping to win games against good teams. The atmosphere is totally different at Georgia. Look at the board posts. Tennessee is still judging themselves by how close they lose to good teams.

The issue is people pick and choose which games are important when they’re trying to push a narrative. If UGA would’ve lost to OU in the playoffs it would’ve been considered a big game and same for auburn in the SECC. However, since UGA won those games and someone is trying to push a narrative, they are no longer big games.

The reason Pruitt wasn’t retained was because he was blown out by each year by a good OC? Ummm.... That’s not a Pruitt problem that’s a UGA problem and happens nearly every year at one point or another whether he’s been there or not.

It’s also incorrect. The players wanted Pruitt to be retained. The reason he wasn’t was because Smart wanted to put his own staff together, which is a fairly common thing for a new HC. So it sounds like whoever you were responding to missed that part or is trying to take a jab at Pruitt.

You are correct, on Vol Nation we get to decide which puppy games are important. There are other forums for you to pay each other on the back for 2nd place...

The point of my post was that the phrase “big game” is vague and subjective, not to pat anyone on the back for anything. In fact if you look at my other post I criticize the poster for being disingenuous about why Pruitt wasn’t retained.

HAHAHAHA Notre Dame is a big game? This year they played a weakling schedule and is always overrated. They lost to UGA AND blown out by Meatchicken 45-14 much worse than UGA did 23-17.

2017 UGA beat them 20-19, they went on to also lose 41-8 to Miami and 38-20 to Stanford, boy they really faced and beat a gauntlet there! I mean your old coach beat them worse that year compared to the 2 years UGA beat them :)

You talking about an overrated team that would be ND! Keep on enjoying those 2nd best trophies with bowl cut there, I mean I guess since 1980 was the last time UGA got to cheer for anything a 1st runner-up gets you all tingly!

Doubt Smart and Pruitt would have been able to work well together. If you have a strong DC, the HC needs to let him run the D and stay out of his way. I doubt Kirby would have done that and he was smart enough to know it would not create a good environment. As for Pruitt v. Smart, right now, as a Vol fan, I would hate to choose. I think Pruitt has done an outstanding job of rebuilding the roster. He has not convinced me he is capable of coaching the team to prominence. Losing to GaSt and BYU, and performing so poorly against Indiana with weeks to prepare don't inspire confidence. I'm still in wait and see mode. As for Kirby, he's had the horses, but hasn't gotten them to the finish line. Looking for a down year for UGA in '20.

Way too early to tell for Pruitt vs Smart. Sample size isn’t big enough and situations weren’t comparable. I think both share the same strengths in elite defensive minds and elite recruiters and both will need an elite OC to get over the hump. Understandable that vol fans are fine riding with Pruitt.

. You sure Pruitt is an elite recruiter? After an 8-5 season Kirby singed the #3 class in the nation.
Pruitt went 8-5....
Fairly positive given his track record. UGA and UT weren’t in the same situations and Georgia has more in state talent than Tennessee.

and yet 1980, lots of us werent even BORN yet, at least we have a Natty since 1980 because UGA doesnt!
"1980" is one of the least effective and stupidest insults you could try and say about a team. Were you insulted in 1997 if a UGA fan said "1951!"? I would have laughed in their faces for such a stupid comment.

You must be 12 years old. You act like it. UGA owns us right now on the field and on the recruiting trail. Hopefully that changes soon.

Talking smack about a team that has outscored us 122-26 the past three years reeks of something a KY or Vandy fan would do.

Georgia only signed 5 guys from their state this year. Kirby is like Fulmer. An elite recruiter as a head coach.

I wasn’t talking about this year. I was talking about the class that followed Smart’s first year.
UGA recruited well Kirbys first year because and staff are elite recruiters and UGA didnt have a downturn like we had previous to him taking over.

If Pruitt didnt choke the first games of last year away, it's likely we have a Top 5 class.

I’m a Georgia fan, so you don’t have to convince me that Smart is an elite recruiter. Most unbiased ppl realize that recruiting isn’t an issue for Smart; it’s being able to realize the game has evolved and murder ball doesn’t win championships any more. As for Pruitt, any unbiased person will tell you he’s an elite recruiter. You can’t compare the two since the situations were nowhere near similar. Richt left Kirby more talent and Kirby is in a talent rich state with little instate competition. Pruitt got neither of those advantages. He had to completely rebuild UT from the ground up.

lol not sure how I got dragged into being a Tennessee fan in this discussion, but if you want ppl to agree with you on how great smart is with no dissenting opinions then volnation is an odd choice.

You don’t think UGA would trade what they got at qb for HB alone? If that’s true you’re crazy.
I am UGA fan and no we would not trade our QB room for Bailey. He may turn out to be great but he has yet to take a snap. I remember all too well when Jacob Eason signed with UGA he also was going to be our savior and take us to heights we have never known. He had some great moments but was also clearly a freshman at times. I really like Bailey and hope he turns out to be a great one for UT.

Eason cold have been your savior. He was twice the the qb Fromm was. Kirby chose poorly.

Maybe, I guess we’ll never know. Seems like which QB a coach decides to play and which one they sit isn’t just a problem for UGA and Kirby though.

Unless you consider winning a couple of nattys with Eason and just getting close with Fromm not a problem.
