The same people who were screaming for him to be fired are now praising the powers that be for extending him to 4 more years....If Pruitt fails Fulmer won't fire him...It will take an act of congress to get him out of here...Lets just hope he lights it up and gets us back to glory
Realistically Fulmer was the best choice at the time he was hired. That said no other major program in the nation would've hired him as AD. Tennessee athletics are an absolute joke currently nationally thanks to the those in power on the hill. I love Tennessee and I hope Pruitt and Fulmer are both successful but I honestly don't see us being a national power again in my lifetime.
It really is. We agree on that. Youd think after what weve experienced since he left, people might look back a bit more fondly. Guess not.
Regardless, I love having him as AD. JMO
This all boils down to money guys. There is no way a long term contract should ever have been discussed Phil isnt going anywhere. Lol no one else wants him. The last ten years have proven that. What he has though is some good friends that r still involved in ut athletics that agreed to throw some cash his way. Until people stop going to games, which they never will, ticket prices will continue to rise and buddies enriching buddies will continue
He wasn't exactly kicked to the curb. He couldn't have made the kind of money he was paid while here at UT anywhere else. He was well compensated while coach here and frankly, let the program slide into mediocrity.
I'm glad he's AD, but some of our fans need to stop the BS about how bad he was treated. He sure didn't leave the program nowhere near the condition he got it in 1993
What stability do we not have with a guy who has no other ambition than the job he has? Fulmer wasn't going anywhere, nobody was after him, and I doubt he was threatening to quit if he didn't get a long-term deal.
I have no issue with him being here for 4 years but an extension after being on the job less than 4 months?
Last time that happened the guys name was Charlie Weis and the school was Notre Dame.
4-8, 8 losses against SEC - worst team in 125 years of football - the bar for Pruitt is pretty low
This is what drives me crazy about some in this fan base. When Jones was here all I heard was that we have the talent and should be winning the East ... if we had a different coach with the talent we would .. yadda yadda.
Now all I hear is excuses for Pruitt.
We need to face the fact that we were not able to secure a big name coach WITH EXPERIENCE. We have another coach that will need on the job training.
Had we been able to get Mullen, many on here would be speaking of an SEC title out of the gate.
Fulmer has not really done anything worth patting him on the back yet. Yet many are doing just that. If Pruitt does not win the SEC by year 3, he should be gone. That is what we expected of the last 2 coaches. That is what we should expect from him.
We should also expect improvement this year. If Jones is as bad a coach as some of you say and Pruitt as good a coach as some of you say - we really should be challenging for the SEC this year. The truth is, Pruitt is not proven so the chance he fails is the same as the chance he succeeds at this point.

What are you talking about? Butch Jones had a 3 year honeymoon, a complete pass for 3 full years here. Only a handful of us were saying he should be winning at a high level in year 3, and absolutely NO ONE was pressing him to win in years one and two, before he was able to get a couple of his recruiting classes in.
And now that Pruitt inherits a similar disaster of a program thanks to your boy Lyle, he should be similarly afforded time and patience. And thats what most are and should be doing. Hopefully in year 3 though, itll be Lyle Allen bizarro world in Knoxville and rather than realizing hes NOT the guy to be successful here like we saw with Butch, well see and know just the opposite with Jeremy.
Also, Butchnas post was spot freaking on about you when he said your expectations are based out of blind spite and resentment that your coach wasnt retained or hired.....thats right on the money.
