Some used morality/sinning as a reason not to hire a coach last year. This time it's different. Seems like some pick and choose when to apply their religious views when searching for a football coach. That's my point.
Not sure if the Schiano thing has so much to do with religion and not more to do with absolute disgust for what he was alleged to do and that entire situation. No matter what your religious views are, anything to do with child abuse or sexual abuse is more so than not viewed universally as disgusting. I just dont think the two compare at all. JMO

One, Hugh Freeze destroyed himself. To suggest some conspiracy that his problems are due to fake outrage is ludicrous. Hey, if you are a moral vacuum that’s your business. Just let us all know where you live and work so we can avoid all contact with you.
Sounds good.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
By their fruit... you will know them.

The judge not and "cast the first stone" texts are the most abused and taken out of context of all. There are all kinds of texts that command us to judge by what the scripture says and then maintain separation from people engaged in certain behaviors.

Paul killed Christians. They had a tough time trusting him. He proved himself through his living, testimony, and willingness to suffer for his faith.

That said, I'm all for forgiving Freeze if that's even a question to be answered... but he should be on a short leash until he proves he's repented.

And yeah... this matters even if you aren't Christian and do not care if he's repented. He claims to be a Christian... one who made a committed a terrible mistake that brought reproach on Christ's name. If he claims to have repented and is lying... then you don't want your program, recruiting, et al to depend on his integrity.

Sorry that you see me in that light.

Church discipline is a real thing in the Bible. Sometimes it must be enacted. But the purpose is not to run somebody off. The purpose is restoration. And I was talking about restoration.

I'm sorry I can't convey my thoughts better. Makes you wonder how I've been a preacher and pastor for 24+ years, don't it? :)

This is pretty much why I don't often start threads, nor post in threads often. I'll go back to my cave and leave y'all alone.
I’m with you and without sounding “holier than thou” (whatever that means🤔) when believers approach these types of things we approach them from a Christ centered view and not a worldly view and therein lies the conflict. You have every right to post here anytime you want and thanks for “wading into this issue”. I for one respect your position!

What would be the purpose of "ranking" sins, from greater to least? Would it be to draw a line somewhere, or to try and link a suitable punishment for each type? Of course not, try a little mind experiment by mentally traveling down that path for a few moments, it'll come to you.

I don't have to travel down that path. Been there done that.
In my opinion (which I realize isn't even worth 2 cents), it's not you or I who are ranking the sin, it's God (if there is a "sin ranking").
If God wants to have worse punishment for one sin over the other, who am I to say otherwise?

The verse I quoted, I wasn't saying there were or were not greater sins. I was just pointing out that it is certainly a possibility.

That was all.

HEY EVERYBODY ... I'm sorry I got it stirred up, and by it, I mean all of it.
My bad.

If you're ever on your way to Myrtle Beach and need a place to go to church (we're about an hour and a half from the beach) maybe you can sit in on a service and see if I or the church I pastor is what you think we are.

As for this thread ...

Since when is "the media" a standard that anybody should be concerned about with regards to morality?
View attachment 178753

I know you are trying to make a point about “the dishonest media” but Its fair to point out that segment from which that picture was captured, Cooper pointed to the road near by and said it was not as flooded as where he was standing. Then repeated it multiple times and showed cars passing by... on purpose.

If people want to get on here and suggest we suspend all ethical constraints then I want to know where those people work and live so I can avoid ever coming in contact with them. It’s one thing to think it, another to type it out and advocate it.
Should I add you to the list??

Now I want you to take that same introspection and tell me why two adults consenting to pay for sex is morally reprehensible to you, and why you feel it's ok to dictate others morals. If you want to teach your son to act a certain way, then be that example and teach him. There is no reason to act all high and mighty just because others dont share your morals.
He was dictating others morals? 🤔

Nationally, coaches are literally killing kids and hitting women, and we're really going to crucify a guy for some poor moral decisions? I say bring him on. He's already been punished appropriately.

He made some immoral decisions = his name and reputation were tarnished

Seems like the punishment fits the crime. No need to condemn him for life.

Lol once again where did I say I'm perfect and have made zero mistakes? You're making stuff up. Good on you.

You said that people who are now quoting scripture and using examples from scripture for forgiveness are insane and foolish.

Speaks a lot about your character.

so allegedly paying players and calling an escort on a school provided phone is kosher, but there were riots about schiano? and fulmer killed the leach hire within hours because of his antics...i don't think the fanbase's choice of when and when not to to apply morality is going to look good in the media.

And what examples do you have to offer that prove Leach would be decent/good here?

Did not say that at all. Find the quote and post it where I said that.

Good reference. Well done. A like for you.
(this was part of what i was trying to do with this thread ... obviously it backfired)
In alot of cases people enjoy kicking folks while they are down. It gives a flash feeling of how we now are above the people who have fallen. So let's just keep kicking them while they are down, meanwhile lifting ourselves higher and higher...God will lift us by grace not by climbing over each other to get to the top...I know this because I've filled in this very thing ..Best thing in life is learning from your mistakes

I think you might be taking that out of context. It could be that He was comparing a Roman who was trying to make his people happy to the Jews who had the scripture in their possession to know what they were doing was wrong and who they were sinning against.

No doubt that's true, that Jesus was comparing Pilate and Judas, as well as their actions.
But He still said "greater sin" of one of them, which is what gives me pause about the question in point, which was, are all sins equal.
Good conversation friend. A like for you.

Your assumption is flawed, why would the improvements just be marginal? What if the potential was exponential improvement?

Freeze will have nearly the same roster as Helton. Why do you think Freeze can take the same Oline and do magic tricks that Helton couldn’t? I’m sure he will help some in the first couple of years, but we’re not going to be in the top 3rd in the league on offense until the roster gets overhauled
