Has anyone else noticed that Freeze went 19-21 in SEC play during his time at Ole Miss? I mean... are we sure this is what we want anyways?

this may be true, but remember... this was a time when the teams of SEC W were ALL on the upswing not just Bama, but M State, Arky, LSU, Auburn, arguably the toughest conference in the country at the time.

besides, if you look closely he got better with every season (except the final when everything was falling apart) 2012 = 7-6, 2013 = 8-5, 2014 = 9-4, 2015 = 10-3, 2016 = 5-7

Everyone wanting Freeze just wants to win and so do I but come on. A player was paid, hookers were called, and the guy was never upfront about anything. I remember him saying he dialed the wrong number when word got out. Freeze is as slimey has Petrino without a doubt.
This. And don't forget Freeze told recruits, boosters, the media, and everybody else that the NCAA's investigation was focused on Houston Nutt -- not him. That resulted in a lawsuit for which Ole Miss ended up footing the bill. The guy is a walking sack of degenerate filth. And do you think recruits' parents will enjoy having him visit their homes? Mama's gonna read about Freeze on the Interwebs and encourage her son to go somewhere other than UT just so he won't have Slimeball #1 as her little boy's coach. Forget him, I'm 100% out.

I was listening to a local sports radio show this morning and they were polling this as well. At the time the poll was 62% in favor of the hire (IIRC) but it seemed like their number would drop from the conversation. I was curious what the thoughts of membership here were.

My $0.02... I was NOT in favor of the Schiano hire, but not for the consensus reason. I didnt care for his coaching record/results. That being said i was not enthused about the Pruitt hire either, but we all set ourselves up for the "big splash" hire and we (for the most part) were underwhelmed with what we got. For me the jury is still out with CJP, but i am giving him a fair shake and showing my support.

The argument on the radio was that he (Freeze) is a good coach but a bad guy... and it would by hypocritical to hire Freeze after not hiring Schiano. I feel like it would be hypocritical to claim to be a christian and not want one guy... but on the other hand not show forgiveness and giving the other guy a second chance to prove he is sorry for what he did...

This whole conversation can get deep, im keeping this first post as simple as i can and keeping the poll simple just to get an idea. Please explain your stand/why you made your choice.

As long as Freeze drops the public religious zealotry I'll give him a second chance. You can't play that card anymore after lining up hookers for college kids.

I’ll throw my opinion in...I’ve heard Freeze speak several times, we have mutual friends(I don’t know him personally) and I am disgusted by what he did. BUT the Bible teaches forgiveness and restoration which I am highly in favor of. I believe this is were he could begin his road back to respectability. I would not at this point support him for a head coach’s job...he needs more time and distance for that. I think he would obviously add a lot to our offensive scheme. I know we all have strong opinions on this but I’ll trust Jeremy and Phil to make the right decision and support them whichever way we go.

Big difference between association with child rape and a reputation of physical abuse and being a pervert hiring adult companionship.

One hired prostitutes.
One, allegedly, allowed child rape to continue.
One was to be the Head Coach (face of the program) and the other is essentially in a demoted state as an Offensive Coordinator. They are supposed to be offensive, right?

Schiano had a barely .500 record as Rutgers HC. He was run out of the NFL for being a toxic jerk.

Whatever he did or didn’t do at Penn State, it was not unreasonable to not want someone with that potential baggage to be the leader of our football program.

The biggest idiot on the planet, our former AD (Currie), had Schiano as basically the ONLY candidate for consideration.

These were all reason enough to revolt as a fan base against that miserable attempted hire.

As for Freeze, he would be an assistant - not the leader of the program. If he gets out of line again outside of football, he’s gone. Might be a redemption opportunity. Why should every other program take chances like this and trap HUGE success while we sit by and endure mediocrity?

Would love to actually hear from someone who said or voted no.

At the end of the day, only crazy people brought up the Penn State stuff. The majority of the fan base didn’t want Schiano because he’s a horrible coach and that has been proven right by two instances: his demotion to CO-DC and the fact he didn’t get the interim when Urban was out.

I actually question the sanity of the people who post that Schiano covered something up or allowed it to continue as the main reason for not wanting him. I hated the PSU scandal but it’s hard to say heresay testimony in court should be biggest disqualifying factor against him. His coaching record disqualified him enough.

Hiring Freeze would totally be seen as hypocritical but the situations are nothing alike. What someone does in their personal life is no one’s business. The biggest thing I see is that Freeze’s wife is standing by him. If she can forgive him, no one else has any damn right to say anything on the matter. Recruiting at Tennessee is infitiely better than Ole Miss when money isn’t involved.

I’m sure the Wolken’s of the world will be blasting Tennessee but at the end of the day, he is simply anti Tennessee because he lost his direct line into one of the biggest Atheletic Departments in the country.

If Freeze is hired, Phil and Pruitt should be United in saying they believe in forgiveness and second chances but there will be a tight leash. Some of the greatest people in history have had issues or problems and have came back ten fold with a positive impact after getting a second chance. I literally see no downside on hiring Freeze. I see tons of downside of not hiring him.
If there was even a chance, and there definitely was, that Schiano was involved in covering up child molestation, then no one in their right mind would want this guy. You, sir, are the crazy person.

I don't even think these situations are even close. You could better compare Freeze to Petrino, even though I think Freeze seems more redeemable. Schiano's name was throw into a discussion involving a horrible scandal involving innocent children. Disgusting! I don't know how people can compare these two. Hugh Freeze is a consenting adult and calling an escort service with consenting adults.

But you can't prove either way. In today's culture, there have been tons of famous names accused that turned out false and tons in college athletics. I didn't want Schiano because he was a horrible coach. But to sit and use the "if there is even one ounce of truth" is the biggest copout I have ever heard. There was plenty of investigating it from all levels of law enforcement. Claiming that heresay testimony is why he shouldn't get a job is laughable at best.

Hugh Freeze is one of those snake oil salesman Christians that talks all high and mighty and then goes out a cheats on his wife with hookers. He's also one of those Christians that blames other people (Houston Nutt) for the problems he caused. Jimmy Swaggart had his apologists after he got caught and Hugh Freeze is no different. Y'all preach forgiveness and second chances WHEN IT BENEFITS YOU. Nothing more or less.

First off, who is the "Y'all" you are talking to?

Second, how is your life in that ivory tower?

One got caught hiring prostitutes doesn't mean there are not dozens maybe hundreds of coaches that have hired them. If we don't hire Freeze we may still end up hiring a coach that has hired them yet we want know that but guess not knowing makes it ok.

Id say he learned his lesson

Y'all is anyone talking about Christian values being the reason they want Freeze. A load of BS.

The view up here is great.

Well I haven't seen anyone bring up church and Christ. However, thanks for telling everyone you are someone who makes zero mistakes in life and do not believe in forgiveness.

For me, the only second chance and forgiveness that matters at all is Mrs. Freeze sticking by her husband. At the end of the day, she is the only one that needs to be apologized to. Not you or anyone else. The fact she is standing by him speaks volumes about her. Makes me think Freeze also knows how lucky he is at a second chance.

Now, go spew your holier than thou words somewhere else.

Since I am the "Someone" in your comment, feel free to go back and look at every post of mine. Was very anti Schiano based on his coaching record and character issues from his two year stint in Tampa. The loudest voices (aka some media folks) made the whole revolt about Penn State when in reality, the majority didn't want Schiano over his coaching ability and the fact he was baked in well in advance by the Haslam/Currie wing.
I think thats wat more accurate. Little of column a, b and c

Where did I say I'm perfect or have made zero mistakes? I've seen a buttload of people on here justifying a potential Freeze hire w/ Christian values as the main reason. I call complete BS on that, they just want him cause they think he'll help them win games but seem scared to admit it for whatever reason. I've seen a lot of people like Freeze before and they're all scumbags who use religion as their shield, but hey why not cause a lot of jokers fall for it every time.

As for Mrs. Freeze if she can put up with what he's put her through then more power to her.
