Fire Kim Caldwell

In DII you just had the players that were left over to select from. There is not a high level of difference in ability at that point, so not as much evaluation to be done.

She was one year at Marshall - probably had a body of players that was from the last team - same with the first year at Tennessee.

When it was finally pretty much her team, the bottom fell out.

In hindsight - she should have opted to stay at Marshall where she could have built her skills verses coming to Tennessee, where the stakes are so high. Then 3 to 4 years down the road, she may have been prepared for a job in one of the major conferences.
Agree she should have stayed there. Wish she had and She is ours next season so kind of hoping she can pull some sort of miracle with a team and we can be half way decent next year. Regardless we know she is staying so no need to hope she is fired that was left behind 5 days ago.

So, to be clear, you did, or are, working for the University?
Do you think I would have this kind of time on my hands AT THIS TIME?!?!?!?!

Well, I would hope not anyway. If I worked for the university and I was on this site during this fiasco, I need to be fired lol.

You can rest assured @Volfaninfl2, I do not work for the university. In fact, I live part time in Florida like yourself. In sunny Melbourne. ☀️

As I said last week, there are serious concerns about how UTAD has handled the narrative around former coaches and the player exodus.

The more that comes out, the more it raises questions about whether efforts were made to shift blame away from Kim rather than address what actually happened.

I’ve heard from multiple sources that mistakes were made—and that some of this wasn’t handled as carefully as it should have been.

If that’s true, the potential fallout could be significant. Once the full picture comes into focus, fans may see just how far things went behind the scenes to maintain the current direction of the program.

At that point, this situation could end up making the Fulmer exit look minor by comparison.
Some people would love to see DW gone so badly I wonder if they’re just upset they couldn’t renew their season tickets at early 2000s pricing 🙄

The rumor or line is she left it all up to him. Something no coach should do and I don't know if it happened or not just that evidently we need to throw him under the bus so she can at least have another season here.
Wasn't he coaching during the 24-10 first season, too? I wonder if having half the team being Kellie coached players had anything to do with that.

WBB is still tied to talent above coaching IMO. Talent alone can get you consistent F4s. If Tennessee is willing to spend NIL, then just find a coach that can utilize that talent.

CKC's system will not utilize talent efficiently.

Im okay taking a chance on up and coming coaches as long as their system is competitive at the higher levels.

Eventually one will work out of Tennessee is willing to spend NIL.
It’s both, when you have 2 great coaches with the best players, like Pat, with Holdsclaw, Candace, etc., and Geno, with Bird, Tarausi, etc., then Mulkey won with Griner, the best player made the difference. Doubt Close wins without Betts. That’s why the top coaches fight over them, and once a team wins enough, they get their pick of the best players. DW just put all his recruiting eggs in the wrong basket, and the result has been disastrous.

Hate to be Debbie Downer, but DW isn’t going to get fired because he hired wrong Lady Vols coach in basketball.

The program just isn’t all that top tier over last 12-14 years.

I know a lot of us want KC fired, but we are kidding ourselves if we think most of the team wouldn’t also leave if that had happened. Everyone is just looking for the best opportunity with the most money.

If a few months ago was 3 yrs ago . . .

Kim Caldwell is 37 yrs old, has been an HC for a decade, has been a D1 HC for 3 full seasons, has coached nearly 100 D1 games.

Can we take young and inexperienced out of the conversation for the sake of accuracy?

Also, IMO it’s blatantly sexist to blame the pregnancy and baby. I wonder how many male coaches became first time fathers .
You follow golf at all? Gets questioned all the time with male professional golfers (also marriages/end of marriages).

TN has just proven how much top rated players still need a top Coach, to succeed.

Give her a restart. This can be Year One. Being pregnant slowed her down and now she is experienced in the SEC. Remember she was at Glenville only a few months ago basically. Kim knows her system is unique and will require patience. Danny knows that too.
Although that seems reasonable we are gonna trot out a “system” no strong player wants to play in. Once the press gets broken this team will have no athletes to play defense or rebound. I’ll eat my hat if we advance to the Sweet 16 in the next 2 years.

Sometimes you have the wrong coach in the wrong place. She’s a mid major coach running a mid major system. Nothing wrong with recognizing it.

Totally agree. I don't think some have ever witnessed what D-2 sports and lower is.
You can have an average coach in say a great high school area that might be a feeder to such school. Coach Sparks was a great coach at Carson Newman when he could get some of UT troubled or grade problem kids. All such reason why lower levels can shine not just coaching.
We may have such a product of that.
