FBI locks down Pilot HQ?

Yes, let's support bad behavior and praise the douche that was the leader of it.

I did not praise anyone.

Were there customers informing Pilot of their due rebates and Pilot was saying no, we're not paying that. If so, then sue them.

If customers were too dumb/incompetent to know they were not getting their deserved rebates...then I don't give a damn and that is not federal raid worthy.

I'm still not sure how this is illegal. Obviously it is unethical. Does anyone know?

there's a federal law, robinson-patman act, that protects companies from unfair pricing practices..

There's nothing illegal against having different pricing structures/brackets for different size customers, but you have to tell customers what those brackets/structures are and what the requirements are to reach the diffrent brackets, or in this case to qualify for rebates.

sounds like Pilot's issues was with auditing customers and actually paying them what they qualified for..

I would think this would be a civil matter between Pilot and the Trucking companies, I'm really surprised to see the FBI raiding them

Making some "#prayforjimmy" t-shirts and signs to sell at the orange and white game. Judging by the comments on VN I should make bank.

He's done a lot for this university, and I will support him until proven guilty. He deserves that much.

Even then, unless he's proven guilty of massmurdering puppies or something, I'll support him.

Stand corrected. Thanks.

Having the last name has probably ruined any future political aspirations.

Lol I think it helps. Look at the Bush family. There name is all over the savings and loan crisis, not to mention their participation in insider trading, and ties to organized crime.

Couldn't it be said that Pilot also bribes local PD with free drinks and hotdogs?

:)

You can't say "my bad, here's your money back" after getting caught robbing somebody. It doesn't work that way.

But I'm also curious about the exact details of the fraud. It seems like if the companies had any value, they would know immediately that they were owed rebates. And this wouldn't have lasted more than a few customers. Or is this like 1-800-contacts, where people just don't care enough about rebates to mail in the paper.

More like they were just sent a rebate and didnt bother to check if it was right or not.

Could be that the arrangement was that the trucking company paid full price for fuel then after all the transactions were processed, Pilot Flying J would issue a check for a rebate based on the number of gallons they purchased in that past month. Could be that check was one, two, maybe three months behind and the company didnt check to see if it was accurate. Someone in charge of the rebates (a manager or maybe the actual sales rep) could submit it for $7500 instead of $10,000 and there's an extra 2500. Somebody started checking their numbers and found out.

I'm still not sure why this would be a criminal issue, unless they're working along interstate commerce lines or something. That's the only thing my dad and I can figure for this.

It doesn't work that way if you're a loser who takes $200 from a Pilot store. But if you own the Pilot store . . . .

In that aspect, it might be on a contractual level. If I promise you a rebate of $.10 per gallons of fuel purchased but then only send you $.075 for every gallon, I've breached the contract. Doesnt answer why the Feds are involved though.

A 120-page affidavit for a search warrant filed in U.S. District Court in Knoxville, Tenn., says Pilot Flying J sales employees withheld fuel price rebates and discounts from certain companies to boost the profitability of the company and increase their sales commissions. The affidavit says FBI and IRS agents are investigating charges of conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud.

There is also no forgiveness for anyone that commits a robbery outside of a Pilot Store with, let's say..... a Pellet gun.

They need to pay the sales commission on the gross sales, and that would remove the incentive for the sales reps and managers to underpay their customers..also find it interesting that the sales team was that involved in calculating the incentive payments, in my organization, their's a HQ finance team that tracks and calculates those type of post pay rebates...

Maybe that was done on purpose just in case they were ever investigated. It would be much easier to pin it on sales people than on financial people.
