Fan Behavior

No one in my section threw anything. Several people in my section booed when the students refused to stop behaving embarrassingly. Pretty simple - if you see someone acting in that sort of manner, go find the nearest stadium or security worker and point out the individual. Tennessee should be synonymous with class, we don't need or have room for degenerates.

Every fanbase has its segment. Tennessee is no exception. Hardly defines the overwhelming majority of the fanbase.

I don't disagree with that statement one bit, but Saturday... I was embarrassed. If that is the kind of treatment the student section plans to culture, then they should do away with the "student" section. It wasn't just 20 or 30 people throwing stuff. There were several times a player (Tennessee) almost got hit by a hurled fan from the upper lower level. You can't tell me that wouldn't have hurt. I was embarrassed for Pruitt. You know that had to be an awful feeling watching this unfold right in front of you and there's nothing you can do about it. They will have to do something about it and I hope the university addresses this behavior. Shut the student section down if they can't handle themselves. I will say though, everyone outside the student section began "booing" the student section and I think that got their attention. I'm with you, it doesn't define the majority of the fanbase, but 500 people at a game can define the fan base in our visitor's eyes. GBO!

Wonder who's bright idea it was to hand those out to students?

Im guessing their suggestion making days have been revoked.

I kind of see it the opposite of some earlier posts. The home cupcake games tend to bring out a much tamer crowd in my experience. A lot of folks give their tickets away and you tend to get a lot of families and kids' groups like Boys Club. The SEC rivalry games and ranked ooc opponents are where you tend to see more craziness.

Sp people that cant afford big games cant conduct themselves appropriately?

I think the difference may be that folks who bought or were given tickets to the blowout aren't fans who have invested donations and years moving up the priority list for better seats. They have little risk for bad acts and haven't experienced the a**h**** in other folks stadiums. 'Your' ticket or pass doesn't earn you the right to ruin others experience. Sorry. Old far* here.

Basically because I expect better from us and if we aren't serving to correct the behavior we are in essence condoning it. We should vie to keep our house clean and our standards up not accept this type of behavior as the norm.

What are you going to do go kick their butt?

Been attending blow out games for several years with no issues. I have to by 4 tickets so any big games is usually more than im willing to spend. Ill attend a big game if its just the wife and i. But i wouldnt call anyone a "better fan." based on their ability to afford jigher profile games. Just a pretty snooty comment thats all.

Every SEC school has their share of idiots/drunks/poor winners/poor losers/etc. As a Georgia grad I have seen poor behavior from Tn fans in the past, but the majority (99.9%) are great fans and pride themselves on treating visitors well. The same thing occurs at UGA games, as the overwhelming majority of our fans act appropriately. I agree with the suggestion to step in when needed, and have done so on several occasions. Keep up the great atmosphere at UT games, it’s a strong point for vol nation.

I saw one almost hit Warrior at the snap. Don’t think it would hurt but could divert his attention as the receiver runs past him for a TD

The irony was the cardboard cutouts read "vols help vols". Yeah, right.

Additionally, the fans had some notes on the back about not being a passive bystander to poor actions.

Never go full millennial.

I'm all about informing security about folks manifesting such behavior, but I don't go to ball games to personally confront drunks - You Tube is full of examples of what a bad idea that is. I leave that to those who get paid to do it.

I've seen that done before, when some of our students were so drunk they were cussing out old ladies ... they were warned, said they didn't have to do squat ... got tossed due to their own stupidity.

I'm not shocked anymore....especially after hearing the F....You chant from the students when we played Florida a few years ago on CBS...I do think Muschamp was their coach at the time...and I dislike him more than any other coach in the SEC....but to let loose on a chant like that as an entire student section is beyond embarrassing...and inexcusable....

I’m sorry but UT is nothing like going to a UGA game. Everyone knows not to go to Sanford. You guys are historically bad hosts. We’d like it if we didn’t get that reputation and for it to stay that way.

ETSU was one of the games to take your family to. Other than DTU, The chumps, The gumps, all burn(The other west game.) and an occasional OOC game the rest will turn into family games over the next few years.

But it is college ball with college students, no need to get bent out of shape when college students get drunk and get out of line.

Who couldn’t get into a brawl with rabbit ears and thin skin? Not saying I agree with or endorse, but come on.

I’d rather my kids learn foul language from the stadium than me(I know there are many that have never drank, cussed or smoked and are wonderful role models to all children. So, what is your sin?)

Little frat boy`s showing out for other little frat boys. Little Miss Sugar peaches was giggling and impressed by the blatant disrespect for the announcers pleas. In the meantime Daddy deposits another check as he proudly tells the bank clerk his son is majoring in liberal Arts. Little Miss Sugar peaches calls home with the news she just found her significant other. Who won the game peaches? "Oh Daddy"

I haven't been to Georgia's stadium but I have been to ours when we played Georgia and they were the same type of fan we were.

Give me a break. Neyland is probably as bad or worse. People are people.

You are welcome to your opinion, but I’m quite sure “everyone” is not giving you permission to speak for them. Perhaps you were unfortunate and met up with some disorderly dawgs, like the vols that were mentioned by the op. If so, I’m sorry that happened. Or perhaps you were part of the problem. Regardless, I have read accounts from many fan bases that speak highly of their Sanford experience and I believe most everyone that attends a game there will be treated with respect and will enjoy their day. If it’s the barking that bothers you, get over it. It’s all in fun.

As a Vol fan who has spent the majority of his life in Georgia surrounded by red and black, I can say that yeah...that fan base is like any other fan base in that there are some bad apples in each group. Attending UT@UGA in '16 was a generally pleasant experience (not just because we won). My dad and I were sitting in the lower level, UGA side, and aside from some good-natured jesting when the home team scored any conversation was more along the lines of the cordial "thanks for coming, where are y'all from" sort of thing most of the game. Towards the end, we were all jokingly wagering over which team was going to find a way to choke and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (given the track record of each at the time). It was fun...the only gripe I have about Sanford Stadium is getting out of the area after the game; post-game traffic was a dumpster fire of epic proportions but that's on Athens-Clarke County.

As for the barking thing...I get it, and it's pretty amusing seeing adults make fools of themselves. I usually just chuckle and move on with my life.
