Fan Behavior

A very good friend of mine attended the game Saturday in his role as a sportscaster for ETSU sports. He relayed to me, knowing of my ties and love for UT, how appalled he was at the behavior of several of the fans behind the ETSU bench and visitors sections. He stated that objects were thrown onto the field at players coaches and verbal assaults were hurled against fans of ETSU even including small children. My concern is that while I expect that sort of behavior from Florida or Bama fans, I would never want to be lumped into that group. I have witnessed this type of behavior from some of our fans in the past but usually someone with pride in our school and fanbase steps up and stops or at least mitigates the abhorrent behavior. There is absolutely no acceptable reason for this type of behavior at any time much less when we are playing a lesser talented and reborn program early in it's infancy.
Absolutely classless and those caught should be banned from all UT sports

Several of you posting in this thread should not go to UF game. If you have tickets, give or sell to Vols fans. 7pm KO with a chance to beat UF. It's going to be sick. There will probably be violence in the stands and chances of being puked, peed, or fallen on will be high. You've been warned, so please no crybaby threads the day after.

It wasn’t around the visitors section, it was the UT student section. Bad day to hand out the fans because they used them like makeshift frisbees. We deserved a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct but they were far from dangerous, just a nuisance.

Needless to say it was embarrassing. The new entitled Student!

Yeah the throwing fans on the field was pissing me off and sparked fantasies of violence against the perpetrators. It was all around the student section. I didn't see anyone being hateful to ETSU fans. We had quite a few in X with us and there were no issues or fans thrown. However, we were all saying, what did you expect these drunk horny kids to do? They are trying to be bad for the attention of hotties. I blame rap music and Lane Kiffin/Butch Jones.

Florida is not ETSU.

Marketing people, sheesh. They hand out projectiles to drunk kids, they spoil major plot points in movie trailers, they think it's a good idea to call people at home to sell them things. They are part of the soulless triumvirate, along with lawyers and health insurance executives.

And to all my friends who are marketing people, lawyers and health insurance executives, I apologize for my insensitivity. I know it hurts to be reminded that you have no soul.

I keep season tickets on the visitor side. Yes, the fans that were being thrown on the field was rude as hell. However, fans being rude to visitors, had to be the exception, not the rule. I was surrounded by ETSU fans, we all had a great time, didn't have that experience...and I sit behind the bench of the visiting team; that's in NO way saying it didn't happen, just that it wasn't wide spread.

We were in the same area as well and I just saw good sportsmanship, there may have been an isolated incident. I thought everyone seemed to be getting along pretty good.

Just a thought but our best fans don't usually go to the Blowout games. Usually the people that go to these games only go because of the cheap tickets. I'd expect to see better fans for bigger games. Just my thoughts.

So the fans that attend the big games are the "better fans" interesting.

This isnt going to go over well

Lol it can be taken out of context all people want it to be. My point is you get people that go to the blowouts who dont usually show up to the big games. Ever bought a seat for the big games? Easily $100 a pop if not more. You don't get the same fans for those games that you do for blowout games. It is that plain and simple.

That being said doesn't mean that we had "bad" fans at the game. The student section is usually the biggest culprit. But they are students so it's expected.

😁

I’ve been in a lot of hostile environments for away games, and have developed a 95/5 theory.

95% of all fans are generally pleasant and easy to get along with. Maybe some good natured trash talk but certainly not over the line. If you interact with these folks, you will have a good experience.

BUT, there also is the 5% that are pure a$$hats. Every fan base has them, including us. If you are unfortunate to be seated around these people or interact with them before or after the game, you will have a bad experience. This can even be true with your fellow fans in your home stadium.

I sat right in the middle of the Florida alumni section in the Swamp in 99. We had some good smack talking, but the Florida alums were great. The 95%. Now, the walk to the car after the game through frat row was entirely different.

I had an entirely different experience at Notre Dame in 01. Pure jack@$$e$ around me the entire game. The 5%.

You seem to agree with the statement that all fan bases have a vocal minority that tarnish everybody else, so why even go there complaining about fan behavior for UT? Bad behavior is bad no matter where you are.
Basically because I expect better from us and if we aren't serving to correct the behavior we are in essence condoning it. We should vie to keep our house clean and our standards up not accept this type of behavior as the norm.
