Fan Behavior

From what I could see in section N, most of the Fans where being thrown from in Sections G-J
in the corner of the endzone, is that where the student section is now??
Yes! I sit in J and it does get out of hand from time to time. I'm all for them having a big time and making a lot of noise, but they really need to be respectful.

Certainly can't disagree with that but it is that very vocal minority that tarnishes all of our fandom. The same can be said for the Florida and Bama fanbase as well. I just ask that we all step up to stop or defuse this type of behavior moving forward.

You seem to agree with the statement that all fan bases have a vocal minority that tarnish everybody else, so why even go there complaining about fan behavior for UT? Bad behavior is bad no matter where you are.

Nothing new, I was at a Georgia Tech Notre Dame game in the 80's and students were throwing empty whisky bottles from the upper deck close to the Notre Dame cheerleaders and hit a few players, helmets on of course. Then they started throwing fish, there was a significance to that maybe a Catholic connotation? The entire ND team had to move to the other side of the field for safety while they cleaned up the student section.

Agreed, In 2001 at the swap i was hit in the shoulder by a beer bottle, from the florida student section. Not sure why so many are worried about other peoples behavior. if you think it makes you look bad as a tennessee fan dont show up..

Not sure what OP expects to be accomplished by starting a thread on VolNation about fan behavior.

Hot weather+Alcohol+College Students/SEC Football fans = A$$hattery.

It's pretty much always been the case.

Who could imagine that a group of immature, most likely drunk, 18-22 year olds could be capable of such embarrassing behavior? I agree that tossing things on the field is a big no no that should get you kicked out. But yelling offensive stuff and general idiocy shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Neyland holds 100k people, you can’t expect everyone to have the same standard of behavior as you. And it leaves plenty of room to buy tickets that aren’t near the student section.

OP I will be the first to admit that I had to look up the definition of abhorrent.

In regards to the fans it really makes me sick that some of our fans would act that way.

So the ushers who will go to great pains to toss you out of a section, tell you to move on, and basically herd you wherever they want, need to be fired for not stopping that behavior. They are quick to get a cop for BS. Where were the cops in all of this?

There’s always going to be certain “Disgraceful Fans” everywhere you go.

You have to think, most people these days don’t even know what the word respect means anymore.

A very good friend of mine attended the game Saturday in his role as a sportscaster for ETSU sports. He relayed to me, knowing of my ties and love for UT, how appalled he was at the behavior of several of the fans behind the ETSU bench and visitors sections. He stated that objects were thrown onto the field at players coaches and verbal assaults were hurled against fans of ETSU even including small children. My concern is that while I expect that sort of behavior from Florida or Bama fans, I would never want to be lumped into that group. I have witnessed this type of behavior from some of our fans in the past but usually someone with pride in our school and fanbase steps up and stops or at least mitigates the abhorrent behavior. There is absolutely no acceptable reason for this type of behavior at any time much less when we are playing a lesser talented and reborn program early in it's infancy.
Hey, I dog cussed every ETSU fan I saw.
Of course, I was home in my recliner.

I was at the game on Saturday. I would be very upset to hear if our supporters were being disrespectful to ETSU supporters. Sad to say in today's society, I might expect some Vols to be disrespectful just because we don't teach manners and respect as much as we used to. My opinion. In my section, there were a good number of ETSU supporters, comparatively speaking. I saw several persons wearing hats/shirts mixing the two. Everyone got along just fine.

People who gave out the fans to students on a hot day should have realized that they would end up on the field. After all, college students are college students. In games particularly where the score is one sided, students get bored -- we've all seen the beach balls batted around in the student section. People who were there might remember the largest number of fans were tossed when the rain delay was announced and then each time the fans were told not to throw them. Frankly, I was surprised that the officials let it go on for so long. Like another poster said, there were times that plays occurred with fans laying on the field of play. I expect a no fan policy shortly. UT officials should know that anything given to students that could end up on the field will end up on the field.

Sounds like your friend needs to grow a pair. It might have been annoying but I would bet they weren’t trying to start anything with the visitors. Out of the 100 or so games I’ve attended, as a student also, I never saw TN fans harassing opposing fans except in a kidding way. Once Wyoming fans tried to start something with us and we squashed that immediately.
