This is all Monday morning quarterbacking. Very easy to say such things after the fact.

Truth is, given the information we know, this couldn't have been prevented. It was going to happen. Could there have been a lucky break which would have prevented it? Sure. However, there would have been another behind them with a similar story which wouldn't have got the lucky break (like these guys) and an attack would have been successful.

Any number of things. I would imagine that if it was the Russian Government that brought him to the attention of the US FBI, then the Russian Government was concerned about Chechen Nationalism. Maybe the FBI checked and advised him to simmer down on the Chechen Nationalist rhetoric because he is on the Russian Government's radar?

We know that whatever it was it was not enough that the FBI was concerned enough to do anything, nor was it high enough of a priority that they could identify Tamerlan on their own from the Lord and Taylor footage.

I'm sure it was Russia. Yeah, they didn't find enough to warrant any action, but that aspect is still interesting.

I'd be interested in finding out how often the Russian Government provides "information" to the US Government regarding Chechens in the US. It might be more routine than we think.

Very. And maybe it changes some of the approaches for the future, at least behind closed doors, but it is not a surefire reason to point fingers.

The irony is that the GOPers who are already cynically trying to hang this on Obama for not keeping an eye on him are the same ones who feign outrage at Obama administration efforts to keep an eye on people.

Do you have a link to this accusation? I've only seen one person (VM) on here & I don't know any GOPers in the news that you speak of hanging this on Obama.

I could swear I heard they said the oldest brother had a YouTube page about Islam and terrorism. If that is true the FBI should have atleast known after being warned about him.

I think he had just favorited some videos on YouTube that had to do with Islam and extremism, not necessarily a dedicated page that he uploaded videos to. His Russian Facebook page had his religion as Muslim.

What you heard was indeed correct. He was suspected of activities on his trip back. Hence the warning the US received.

The dhs screwed up on this one. Some say the little brother was impressionable by the big brother. I call bs. I've got a little brother. No way I could convience him to blow up people.

I like how you make a huge leap and blame the DHS for screwing up, yet you have absolutely no idea the contents of the Russian complaint or the investigation from two years ago.
