Are you expecting top 5 after our terrible 15 years of football? Butch also had a top class from the sheer numbers that he took. Also, many of those players transferred or were injured
I expected us to at least be Top 5 in the SEC based on the recruiting hype Pruitt had.

Didn’t Pruitt say in his introductory press conference that we were going to “build a fence” around the state of Tennessee in regards to recruiting?

The fence.

Winning games usually helps.

Just been a bunch of hype on Pruitt from day 1 on recruiting. Just like Butch. Just like Dooley.

This program blows smoke up its fans a** like few others.

After the last four coaching hires, my reaction to the announcement introducing the next Tennessee head coach.

Pruitt signed 6 of top 10 in state players in 2020 but only 1 of the top 10 in 2021...

Remember when Fulmer cherry picked from GA, NC and SC for all that talent? Well, UT is now the program near death and those other teams are picking our bones instate.
Fulmer was very fortunate that Georgia, Clemson, LSU and others were all down when he took over.

This thread is stupid and a lot of posters just want to find something to complain about as if we didn’t have the number 2 class with only Hudson on this list committed... had we finished with the class we were supposed to nobody would have talked about the in state targets we missed.... how it goes sometimes it’s also a reason most of these guys not in the SEC.

If only they could put the players on the field they were "supposed " to get.

Too bad reality keeps getting in the way for this program.

I was never very excited about the Pruitt hire but the one thing that made me feel a little better was that he was supposedly this great recruiter. He did pretty well at first but it’s all falling apart now. Overall, he has been a disappointment from a recruiting perspective imo.
He's been a disappointment from every perspective imaginable..

When you have a defense that allows 30 points a game and the HC is supposed to be a defensive specialist and an offense that scores 21 per game and the OC is supposed to be an offensive genius recruits will go elsewhere. Offensive players want to score points which we do not. Defensive players want to hit people and be elite which we cant do. Dont blame them for going elsewhere. If we want to become relevant again then we need a PROVEN offensive HC that puts points on the board. Then we will have a chance at getting the Lawrences and Burrows of the college world. Until then its 3* for us.

The thing is; Alabama recruits itself. There are other programs that recruit themselves, but head and shoulders above those, is Bama. JP, from Bama, could go anywhere, representing Bama, and get any recruit to listen to a sales pitch for Bama. Good recruiter? He didn't have to be, he just showed up Alabama Crimson. CJP, from UT, isn't going to get those same doors opened on the first knock, he may have to knock 3 or 4 times. Tennessee Orange isn't as impressive anymore or recognizable.

Top recruits, even in-state, are not going to sign on until they see stability in the program...and we are not projecting anything resembling stability.

What's sadder is that every one of those top 1-8 went outside the SEC, too. I mean, I guess that's good that we don't have to compete against them but we cant even keep talent in the conference. Kids seeing greener pastures and less competition outside the SEC? Who knows. Still sucks that Pruitt can keep anyone in state, much less in conference.

I've been saying this for years....that the better the SEC gets in football that many athletes will want to go elsewhere and improve their playing time and reduce threat of injury that is more likely in a conference with very fast / very strong / like to hit players. Look at how many OSU players were hurt when playing Alabama as an example.
