GTFOIf the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. I know you traditionalist will give all kinds of reasons not to do this, but it’s a new world. I’m not talking about running away I’m talking about being smart. They would rotate on the schedule anyway, so make this about Tennessee, not about tradition.
Yes and I want tie games to come back! Deafest attitude! If the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. Until the University of Tennessee gets a Board of Trustees and and Administration that believes it's important to have a strong football program, the Vols will never return to the success of the early Fulmer years. Alabama had a short stretch where they hired a succession of losers but they took it seriously enough to spend the money necessary to hire the best coach in the business. Our University continues to think it's more important to build nicer facilities than it is to put a product in those facilities. When you add in the higher expectations on academics which makes it more difficult to recruit some athletes to the school, you put the program at a disadvantage.
I'm not saying the football program has to be a priority to the University. Education is the goal. However, when a school hires a succession of losers like Kiffin, Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt: Football is obviously not a priority. Hopefully, Heupel is the answer but his track record does not suggest that he can lead a school back to SEC prominence. Tennessee again, settled for a lesser product. We've sat around and watched the university turn the football program into Ole Miss.
I saw a stat that said in the last 50 years, Tennessee has beaten Alabama 15 times. Regardless of the schedule, Tennessee has not been competing with Alabama for at least the last 10-12 years. Only 2 or 3 of those games have even been competitive. I'm not as concerned about whether or not we schedule them as I am whether or not we are going to at least compete with them.
Right more would need to happen that I have felt should happen anyways for some time. In 2019, Tennessee played FOUR OOC games and eight inner conference games.
I think the powder puff games should be optional exhibitions and limited to two per team. Then 8 super conferences formed with 10 conference games. That shortens the regular season by 2 games and increases inner conference play by 2 games setting up a post season that every team should get to participate in. More on that in a second. It should be said that the super conferences might be bigger than 16 teams eventually.
The conference championships will be an additional game for the top two teams of each conference, totaling 11 games thus far—all of which will go to a 16 team playoff for a Natty where the top 8 teams of each super conference will play the runner ups of the other super conference, and so on. I also think every team should get to go bowling, because that revenue goes to help build the educational system at some schools.
This approach will not create any more games during the season as the top two teams will still have played 15 games by the end of the season. It also creates a better system for ensuring the best teams from all conferences get a chance to play for it all, without disregard for their regular seasons. It still promotes cross conference play. It generates more revenue for the sport and all of the teams involved, and it increases the relevance of the conference play. It doesn’t lengthen the season and put kids at a greater risk.
It truly was a perfect storm. Saban was good at Michigan state. He was very good at Lsu. When he got paired up with the bag men at Alabama it was a matched made in heaven as far as winning was concerned.Bama was gifted Nick Saban he practically fell into their laps at a time when he wanted out of the nfl let’s not act like their administration did something miraculous in hiring him at that time…

2016??
So you fear Bama? Why not get better and beat the hell out of them?If the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. I thought any team that made it to the championships had to play 15 games. 12 reg season, conference champion ship and 2 playoff games. This would be the same amount, just for more teams. If I understand what you are saying, a few teams will play a significantly higher number of games than also rans. To me this would be unfair (not sure this is the right word). The also ran's fans would get fewer chances to see their teams and those teams would not get the playing time of their more experienced counterparts. The lesser ran teams would be at a disadvantage accumulating playing time experience.
