It isn't running away. It is looking at practical, long term solutions for better overall competition and opportunity for more parity. UT would still have to "play the best" at some point. UGA hasn't been able to duck Bama for instance even though they don't play them every year.I can't accept running away from competition, getting better is the answer not running away. Saban won't be there much longer.

Mind... your... business. When you’ve played someone 100 years and it’s what most people would consider the biggest rival on the schedule…..it’s running away
Mind... your... business.
I have no doubt the day will come when Bama's run is over. It has happened to every program that has achieved national dominance. So no. Not "running away". Just a practical understanding that UT playing Bama every year ON AVERAGE creates a distinct disadvantage when trying to overcome what's happened but also generally. Auburn nor LSU have been as historically strong as Bama. On the whole, that creates an advantage for UGA and UF even if UT is "good". It is even worse when you go down further. UK's permanent crossover is MSU, right? Creating equity is better than continuing this one game.
You may need to read the post to which I was responding more carefully. I don't think we're in agreement at all. My view is that, if having Bama in the East is the price we must pay to keep the annual rivalry, then by all means we should support Bama being moved to the East. In my opinion, there is no Tennessee football without the Bama game. The day will come when we have the upper hand again.

It won't matter that we win games, if we're not playing the games that matter. Adherence to tradition keeps those games alive.
It's also a fact that our tradition gives us an advantage in getting "large amounts of money, better recruits and better coaches." Without it, we'd be in even worse shape than we're in now.
It's interesting that this brings Sark back to the SEC. Saban likes to beat his proteges.Reality til Saban retires.
Until something has been done for the first time, no one's done it. There's always a trailblazer.Doesn't seem to be ANYONE around at present that's close to doing that. Except Dabo, who's beat him more than once?
I would normally agree with you but that tradition has not gotten TN anywhere near a SEC title, little lone a SEC Championship or playoff berth in the last 16 years. Which coach since Fulmer has been a Tier one capable coach like Saban, Fisher or Smart, that came here due to our long lasting traditions with existing rivals and beat them consistently? Which Recruiting class brought Tennessee back to relevancy on the field since Fulmer?
No.
Do NOT dump Bama.
Find a way to whup Bama's ass, repeatedly.
For those who say, "we can't do that," that's a loser mentality. Break out of it.
Keep TSIO. Lose the habit of losing.
Go Vols!
dump... bama....If the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. I know you traditionalist will give all kinds of reasons not to do this, but it’s a new world. I’m not talking about running away I’m talking about being smart. They would rotate on the schedule anyway, so make this about Tennessee, not about tradition.
Actually, many of us would be happy to share the wealth and allow others to have their crack at them! But wouldn't want to duck them every year... rotation maybe. But we still need to gauge our progress against UF and UGA...and if we become good enough to beat THEM, we'd wind up playing Bama in the SEC Championship anyway! If the conference is expanding, we need to dump Alabama as an annual opponent. None of that has anything to do with us playing Bama every year. Hell, I bet if you asked some of our current and former stars many would say they came so they could play the Gumps every year.
While we’re at it, let’s drop UGA and UF since they kick our arses almost every year too.
