yeah they are allies. picking up more trade with china doesn't change that. its a result of our stupidity. we remove that stupidity and we can likely "fix" any trade deal with Canada.
as with most things Trump, its not the ideal that is bad, its the execution. Canada becoming a 51st state was never going to happen, but stronger ties between the two were close, especially before Trump got involved with their election and swung the pendulum away from us. Same thing with Denmark, the US probably could have pulled off some expanded military access and mining rights, but instead of working deals Trump just barges in and makes demands. that doesn't sit well with most people.
I think USA and Canada starting drifting a part even before Trump. Trudeau was just as problematic as Trump in the situation.
Honestly, it really depends on who the leaders of this nation are. If Canada had elected a MAGA-like leader this past weekend, we would be best buds again.
Our crappy politicians are fighting each other and that is splitting us. Kind of like how California and most of the Southeast really don't see eye to eye and get along (I still think UCLA can't come to SEC country for a game lol).
