Devrin Young....do you really think?

I guess I took this wrong then. I assumed you were saying my times were off. I'll hang up and listen.

You were trying to argue that DY was going to get a lot faster once he was in college. He is not going to get that much faster, your either fast or your not.

Will DY run faster than his 40 time once he gets out of college? yes, but it definitely wont be a 4.4 to 4.3 or any kind of jump like that.

By faster I was referring to lower times. That was the basis of your whole dang argument. You posted lattimore...err I mean richardson ran a 10.5 didnt you? That was your comparison to devrin young wasnt it? When you lose an argument do you always resort to calling names?

Plus i couldnt find hardly anything on Rainey's time so i used what a gator poster said on a board. So you have to take that for what its worth.

I WILL NOT go back and read this "stuff"... but will just say that DY's greatest asset is change of direction. He does it virtually at full speed and looks effortless doing it. He's fast enough right now.

I don't know if he's the answer or even part of it... but I do hope UT finds the answer... quick... and am not opposed to this kid getting a shot.

Lots of arguments over this kid... I hope he gets a shot just to satisfy my curiosity and maybe settle a few arguments. I think we'll see him on punt returns next week for sure and maybe on some special play drawn up for him or some passes out of the backfield. It can't hurt to try I guess.

I used 100m because someone brought up DY's time. Like i said, Rainey outran Demps in a 40 but can't touch Demps in the 100m. Meyer said Rainey is the probably the fastest on the field. How have i lost when all you have done is just posted 1 time that means nothing?? You lose again:eek:lol:

Wasnt he already timed at camps running in that range?

I think DY was timed at around 4.4 which is plenty fast enough.

If people are trying to relate 100 m times to 40 times... it doesn't work. The 100 m leans to top end speed. Forty times are made and lost at that level within the first 10 yards. It is a measure of quickness off the block or explosiveness.

World class guys obviously have both. Football uses the forty because it is more relevant than the 100.

His times are 4.5 and 4.63 on Rivals and ESPN, only one place has him running a 4.4 and thats Bearden's website. Im not saying he doesnt run a 4.4 but ill take rivals and espn and every other article author over Bearden.

In all honesty, you cant tell a kid's speed or how is going to play from times, I was just making an argument and trying to get people to understand that there is a good possibility he isnt going to be the next coming of Herschel Walker like everybody thinks he is.

No one is thinking that as far as I can tell. Most are wanting to see the kid in action before saying he cant do it or isnt good enough. Let the kid play if the coaches think he can.

I guess i just get on here too much then, the way people talk about him on here has made me not like him. The whole offseason was people talking about how many punt returns and kick returns he was going to have and there is at least a thread once a week asking why isnt playing or getting a lot of reps. I think he could be used as a wes welker reciever and special running plays but thats it. People are going to get their hopes up like they did with the florida game and become disappointed.

Like this thread was people talking about how if he was given the chance he is going to make everyone miss and become the dynamic speed player we need, Neal is the fastest player on the team and it hasnt made a difference.

Uhhh im saying there is a reason people dont use 100 meter dash's that much and prefer 40's in football. 100 m is technique and conditioning unlike 40 which is usually all speed. Rainey outran Demps in a 40 race, yet doesnt come close to Demp's 100 time. There is your proof on that. If you honestly think someone is going to get that much faster in college than you are ignorant. So yea good try:salute:

This is absurd. For openers there's simply no possible way to coordinate 40 times across the board as there's a ridiculous number of variables, primarily who is doing the timing and on what surface. Please reference my aforementioned observation of Damiere Byrd having a 4.55 time on Rivals vs a 4.27 time on Scout. There's a really big epiphany to be had here if you bother to see it.

Further, as opposed to what you posited about "speed" 40's are rather heavily weighted towards acceleration. Now it can certainly be argued that, on balance, acceleration is an attribute that lends itself very well to football as opposed to spending all day in top gear but to try to dismiss 100m times, which require acceleration AND top speed to do well, is simply silly.

The Rainey vs Demps only highlights another issue that should be obvious...the shorter the race the more important the little things. 40yds for guys that are both that fast means a good start probably takes that race. Surely you aren't telling me you'd put your money on Rainey over Demps at every race...are you?

As to the last part people can, especially if specifically training for it, up their speed a bit. Still, I'd agree it's a VERY iffy proposition to start making assumptions about such things.

Is it possible that Dooley might actually give him a heavy shot in Buffalo game? I'm not really on the d young bandwagon but it's undeniable that he is the fastest possible choice at RB though he is lacking in size. But with the reports about him getting reps with 1st team today is interesting to say the least. If our oline can open the holes, even small holes, he could probably zip right through them. I say give it a shot at least. Thoughts?

He may not be the fastest SEC guy but I'll be willing to bet $10 he's one of the shiftiest

I mean you cant take away Rainey beating Demps in the 40. Would i take Demps over Rainey? yes i would, but i believe it would be a 40-60 shot i lose. 40s are a lot about acceleration, but isnt that extremely important at the running back position? This argument is never going to be solved until 4 years lol. Im just saying Lamicheal James said he got his 100m time down by working on technique and conditioning. It makes sense, its hard to keep at top speed.

As for the times, a lot can happen, a bad jump or an off day. Byrd got the 4.27 though and every scout and analyst said he ran a 4.2. DY had 2 different times with his other being a 4.5
