Devrin Young....do you really think?

I mean you cant take away Rainey beating Demps in the 40. Would i take Demps over Rainey? yes i would, but i believe it would be a 40-60 shot i lose. 40s are a lot about acceleration, but isnt that extremely important at the running back position? This argument is never going to be solved until 4 years lol. Im just saying Lamicheal James said he got his 100m time down by working on technique and conditioning. It makes sense, its hard to keep at top speed.

I'd love to take your bet about Demps vs Rainey. See, he isn't just a top speed guy. Care to guess who won the NCAA indoor 60m title? That's got a lot more to do with acceleration than top speed. It's swell that Rainey was able to pull one off him once, no doubt the kid's got wheels, but that's kind of a blind squirrel and a nut kinda thing.

Actually the only thing that ever needed squared, with me anyway, is this insane idea that Young is, y'know, sorta-kinda-not slow in your eyes. That's simply not accurate. In the 2010 track season there were exactly two people in the entire state of TN that managed to officially go under 10.80 twice...Travis Thornhill and Devrin Young. That's it, that's all.

As for how good an actual football player he'll turn out to be at this level...hell if I know. I just wish people would get over this idea that he isn't plenty, and I do mean plenty fast enough to play at this level.

As for the Byrd issue it's really simple, one place was "slow" (remember, a 4.55 was the fastest anybody ran at that combine) vs some places where times run to the fast side. It's why hs/college 40 times are nigh impossible to compare and the NFL tries to get everybody to run at the same place to keep it as apples to apples as they can manage.

I guess i just get on here too much then, the way people talk about him on here has made me not like him. The whole offseason was people talking about how many punt returns and kick returns he was going to have and there is at least a thread once a week asking why isnt playing or getting a lot of reps. I think he could be used as a wes welker reciever and special running plays but thats it. People are going to get their hopes up like they did with the florida game and become disappointed.

:eek:hmy:

I never ever said Young was slow, Young would burn me and everybody else on here. My argument was against the people saying he is the fastest player we have which is not true. People think we are lacking speed at the runningback position, eventhough Neal is the fastest on the team. You have to at least see my point of view. A 5'7 175 runningback running as fast or barely faster than guys almost 40 pounds heavier. Young is a fast guy, plenty fast, but he doesnt have the size of the other runningbacks running the same speed. Thats been my argument. Devrin Young is really fast, I dont believe he is as fast as everyone on here is trying to say.

Just think about Darren Sproiles. Full speed in 3-4 steps PERIOD. If the O-Line will just give him a crease, he could go for 20 - 30 yards. But out O-Line has got to DRIVE when Run blocking. We cant zone block and expect to Blow open running lanes. Dooley said that he was disappointed in the RB's. If there isnt a hole to start with and then they bounce it outside, then they lose 3 yards, the coach wants to say its the RB's fault. HOW? The have got to get mean and DRIVE. DRIVE. DRIVE. It doesnt matter what RB is back there, if there is a hole, they will gain yards. I think dooley is trying to put the blame on the RB's when I dont think its their fault. Well maybe some, but CMON, if there is a hole, any average RB will gain yardage. PERIOD.
