Devrin Young....do you really think?

Yes, I think DY will see the field in a package or two. I think after seeing Rainey Saturday, and what speed on the perimeter does, it got Dooley to thinking. I definitely think he fields punts against Buffalo, but also think he will be used on a few offensive plays.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm tired of watching our current rbs slowly cloppity clop right towards large groups of opposition then crumble like house of cards for a -1 yard gain.

If dy is as fast as everyone says he then put him in. Fight fire with fire. Like others...I too watched small backs like mccluster and rainey shred defenses.

Well at least our defense.

Until our O-line figures out the issues with run blocking and pushing the D-line back maybe we can use Young's speed on the outside.

Lattimore runs a 10.5 so yea i do. Maybe not a 4.63 but definitely along 4.5. Lattimore was about 2 milliseconds faster than DY on the 40 time and the same for the 100 time so it makes sense to me.

Please cite where Lattimore has ever run an officially timed 10.5 100m. (somebody blogging that some coach timed him down-wind in a hurricane doesn't count) The 10.70 Young ran was in a semi of the State Championships. (his 10.76 was good for 2nd in the finals) That 10.70 would have won the state title 8 times (8!) since 2000.

Let me give you an education on 40 times across different settings. At the US Army 2010 combine Young finished in the top 10 of all players in the 40...with a 4.72. WTF you say? Yep. The fastest time run by anybody was a 4.55, by Damiere Byrd. That name ring a bell? It should, seeing as how he made the Team USA Jr team that competed in Japan in the 100m and in 2010 ran a top 10 time in the nation with an official 10.42. That 4.55 is Byrd's time on his Rivals profile but, lo and behold, his Scout profile lists 4.27.

Get rid of your 40 fascination and look at times that are taken under conditions that transfer from one place to another...officially timed track times. If you gotta whine about Young's height and weight be my guest but can we PLEASE put the speed question to rest?

Might just work considering how much zone blocking we use, might be just the kind of thing that clicks with his running.

No matter how many facts you throw at people here about his speed, they will always disagree. I'm with you.. there are arguments to be made about his size but there is no way in hell you can question his speed.

4.5 40 on rivals. Lattimore ran a 4.46 and the biggest knock on lattimore is his speed, (not quickness). So take that for what its worth. A guy 5 inches taller and 60 pounds heavier runs faster than him. He may be quick and elusive which is why the coaches want him in the punt game, but he isnt going to out run anybody

Haha. Wow.

The fact that you are obviously living by Rivals stats is ridiculous.

What's funny is most on here were questioning Rainey and Demps' size before last Saturday. I bet they aren't anymore. I hope DY gets in the Buffalo game and shows us all what he can do.

I'm pretty sure Rainey and Demps are both well over 155 pounds.

Agree......I want Poole to succeed, but after watching him a few games he just isn't getting it done. He's solid but nothing to be scared of if you are the defense. But, we worried all week about "little" Rainey and Demps, and for good reason! I'm for working in the younger guys like Neale, Lane, Smith, and yes Young with some Poole for good measure.

I'm sure they are, now. Rainey was 155-160 lbs when he got to UF. I'm sure when DY is a senior he will also be much bigger/stronger. And isn't DY more like 165 currently? Once again, let's see what DY does against Buffalo.

What makes this guy different is acceleration. Watch his highlights - he hits full stride after two steps. He may not be the fastest guy on the team, but he would be dangerous on a toss sweep. I hope they give him a chance against Buffalo.

This is my fav DY hightlights vid. The action starts at the 2:50 mark.

Sure, I hope he gets in for several plays in the Buffalo game. What we've been doing is not working, so CDD needs to try new ways and players to attack in run/screen phases on offense. Devrin's ability to achieve top speed so quickly, and elusiveness in cutting and juking without losing much speed must be tried. I hope we try to get him the ball in space, and just see what he can do. Buffalo isn't GA, but get him in the game for some snaps to get the jitters out. I am looking forward to seeing him return punts.

Hey, he may not be all that we hope, but how do we know that until we give him a chance to prove the doubters wrong?

Let him run from the wildcat position. That way the snap should be right in his hands and we save wear and tear on Bray's back. :good!:

I agree some of the problem has been with the RB's. I noticed several times in Fla and Cincy game that Poole and Lane would run up to the line then hesitate. Sometimes it was because there was a defender where there shouldn't have been (O-Line) but often it looked like hesitation (confidence, indecision, lack of commit to the hole, etc.) Other teams runners seem to have an all-out-hit-the-hole at full speed factor we haven't found yet. You gotta believe!

I'm not sure what Young's weight is at the moment but that photo shows some arms that clearly have been moving some iron. Pretty solid looking bicep there.

Exactly... Randall cobb was a 4.46 40 and 10.75 100 M... i think a more appropriate stat i think may be the shuttle. On punt returns you have to have the ability to be shifty to get through the gaps... i'd take a 40 yd punt return and having him get run down on the opponents 30 yd line all day. :good!:
