Defending Fulmer

Maybe...a couple of my guys were a year or so short of a decade too, but I figure it's all close enough to illustrate the point.

Holtz, Carr, and Paterno were missing from my list. You can toss them in that group as well. Probably still missing some obvious choices.

holtz......no
carr......no
paterno.....no

Switzer was at Oklahoma for 16 years and won 157 games. I'm going to bet there's a 10 year stretch in there somewhere where he won 100 games.

patterson.....no
carroll.....no
richt......no

Patterson will win 10+ this year and he'll meet the criteria. Like I said a moment ago, close enough to illustrate the point.

Carroll left for the NFL just before hitting a decade at SC...that doesn't somehow make Fulmer a better coach. Besides, his run at SC was more impressive than UT's run in the late 90's.

I'm sure you are probably right, but I never would have guessed that. Switzer really had things rolling in the 70s and early 80s.

I'd bet that Bill McCartney probably is close to qualifying with his run at Colorado in the 80s and very early 90s.

he's really close.

he had a strong start and a average (for him) middle and strong finish.

so, no matter where you start from the 1981-1984 seasons factor in.

His cheating ass shouldn't even be included, tbh. They did have some badass teams, but what was going on was ridiculous.

Sure. Why not.

Osborne, Bowden, Stoops and Spurrier are the ones I can think of since 1980. Switzer and Tressel are probably close on tenure. Paterno might qualify also.

Stoops, Carroll, Snyder, Patterson, Bowden, Spurrier, Richt, Brown, Beamer, Tressel, Osborne...

If you include runs that started prior to 1980, Bryant is on there. Bo has to be close. Lloyd Carr is probably pretty close, and John Cooper might have had too many crappy seasons but I wouldn't be stunned if he's on the list.

The list would be longer if the seasons had as many games at the time. I'm sure we're missing some as well.

Nice still shot - now please if you can show the whole clip. He never said a word. The only time he moved any faster is when he left k-town and pissed all over these guys on here praising him.

Lol!! Of all the things to criticize Kiffin about you are choosing to focus on how many words he said to Beamer in a post game handshake you said never happened?

seriously?

How many of those guys had a ten year championship drought?

I don't know, and I'm not arguing that point. I already said I was ready for him to go after seeing what was going on early in the 2000's. I'm giving everyone that and am in agreement. I'm just trying to get some unreasonable people to reason for a few moments.

Not Carroll, Snyder, Patterson or Richt. I don't have to look it up to see if they had a 10 yr run to measure against, or basically avg 10-2 for 10+ yrs.

I didn't take the time to look up bios, but know that they racked up wins and won championships at a similar or better rate.

the point should be pretty obvious by now.

look at the names being thrown out. my god, it's a who's who of the coaching profession.

Welp. Had he left when you (and others) wanted, he'd be a lot more well-regarded and no one would ever have this kind of discussion about him.

Richt racked up wins and won championships at a similar rate to Fulmer? Not buying it. Not to mention his falling off seems to have occurred much earlier.

he did not do it at one school, but urban meyer averaged over 10 wins a year over a ten year period as a head coach.

again, though, not at one school.

He would need 12

If they are as good as some are predicting, that's not all that unreasonable looking at their schedule. I doubt they get there. Still worth noting that a couple more cupcake games here and there over the last decade and he's in the discussion.

If you really want to stretch it, Nick Saban has won an average of 10 games in his last 10 seasons in college football.

Agreed

Needs a crystal football, and won't get it, but won the same number of conference championships. There are some similarities between the two.

I think that makes it all the more impressive, especially looking at the condition of some of the programs he took over.

again though, as if it wasn't obvious, we are mentioning the cream of the crop.

the best of the best of the best.

no one is coming up with any chumps here.

it's a pretty exclusive club and fulmer is a member.

There are some similarities certainly, but I see Richt as a sort of Fulmer-lite. His highs weren't as high and his run didn't last as long, but there are plenty of points for comparison.
