DC Candidates?

Good first post!

Foster would be an amazing hire. Now would be the time to get him. And yeah talk about a low-down dirty move if we somehow snagged him up. With Shane and Frank Beamer both gone Bud shouldn't have any strong allegiance to the school. :loco:

I wonder if Hart would put up the $$$ to even make a run at Foster?

Shoop turned down a $1.5M offer from LSU and closer to $2M at Auburn. Auburn wanted to make him the highest paid DC in college football and he declined. He wants to be HC. It would be a shocking get. His pay grade would be way above DeBord's and the rest of the assistants.

Is that true??? If so, what is he doing. Outside the PSU family and a few college football followers, no one has even heard of this guy.

While in Florida, Shoop was adamant about remaining at Penn State -- for now. He pledged his allegiance to the Lions, but did give himself an out by saying he would still like to be a head coach again some day (he was 7-23 from 2003-05 at Columbia).

“I hope that Penn State will have me forever and ever and ever,” Shoop said. “I love being part of Coach Franklin’s program. I love what we’re building here. I said this millions of times, I think we’re a ‘30 for 30’ [ESPN documentary] story ready to rock and roll. It’s just a matter of time before we get this thing rolling. We’re playing in the best division in the best conference in college football and that's really exciting to me.”

But…

“I was a head coach and didn’t have a successful coaching conclusion to my head coaching career,” Shoop added. “So, if the right opportunity presented itself to me, my family and the people who are important to me and we sat down and talked about it then sure, that’d be something that I’d be interested in.”

You are right. There wasn't any lead large enough that he couldn't give away. We suffered through year after year of his infamous prevent and mustang defenses. No need to go to the games or turn the TV on with him as DC. He will give away any lead. We can't afford that.

Yeah its not like UT had any good defenses under Chavis. I mean his defenses had nothing to do with any of Fulmers winning seasons. The national championship was won solely by the offense. He didn't take a defense ranked dead last in the SEC and turn them into 7th in the SEC in one season. Ahead of us by the way. Nah, Chavis sucks.

That and the Penn St offense will stink while Franklin is there. A stinking sinking ship!

Only on third and 7 or more. Other than that I love the Chief!

I don't know who it will be, but some of the players are saying that it is a good thing that Jancek was "crazy" and they are glad to see him go. Butch has someone in mind or he wouldn't be making this move!

Do you have an actual source for this, other than your pet parakeet?

Why would we want Shoop? I've never heard of the guy. That being said, I have no idea who would replace him. As long as it's someone who's proven then I'm good.

Maybe we should really start with who exactly you have heard of.

Foster is probably pretty peeved he didn't get the HC job. He wouldn't come out and say that but why continue on ad infinitum as a DC???? He needs to bolt. Good option op.

Has anymore heard from Peter Sirmon ?! That might be bit of a risk considering his lack of experience, and what we may be on the verge of next season. I would love to have him back on the staff.

While I'm not sure how Foster feels, sometimes a OC/DC is very content not having the pressure of being the head coach. I think that is why Chavis is still a DC. He just doesn't want to be the big dog. Sometimes 600 grand to a million plus a year is enough for a man.

Nuked post in Recruiting forum said that Jancek may have a relationship that might be considered "questionable."
Speculative, but it seems that CBJ likes having coaches he has worked with in the past on board. Isn't this his 3rd team with CBJ? Why after a bowl win and such a great defensive performance the 2nd half of the season do you let someone you have worked with for years "hit the road?"

It kind of is, cause he said why would he (Shoop) leave when he has this great situation? And you said same for Jancek. Well it's not the same if Jancek didn't choose to leave.

Someone on the outside could say why would Jancek leave? His son is on the team, he loves Butch etc. Theanswer would be he didn't choose to leave.

Yeah...my comparison was "Except for the state he grew up in and the HC he's friends with". Cuz the "son on the team" part was right on. It was an innocent aside comment...didn't mean to upset him or get you into PROTECTION mode. :)

Maybe a situation where Jancek was looking at options, opened that door and Butch helped make the decision for him.

Again, why is Shoop being mentioned so much? Did it ever occur to you that his son plays for Penn State and this is a ploy to get more money?

I see and smell a Dooley/Sunseri mess all over again...I just think we can do better. Maybe I'm wrong...and I trust Butch because this can be a career-making or a career-breaking move for him.

Nah. I'd be willing to bet he didn't pull the trigger on Jancek without having a really, really good idea that all that's needed to secure an excellent replacement (like say, Bob Shoop) are a couple or three dotted i's and a small handful of crossed t's. Jmho.
