Shoop? Are you kidding me? He is not worth talking about...good grief. A Yale, Columbia and Vandy guy, all football powerhouses? Whose only claim to very, very minor fame is being James Franklin's guy?
This HAS to be a joke, right? :loco:
Probably the best DC right now is the guy at Clemson...and that would be a huge long shot.
Butch will have to have a DC hired in the next few weeks to try and salvage a horrid recruiting class. We need to finish in the top 10 in recruiting or all our dreams and hopes will be extremely short lived. like no longer than 2017 season if we are lucky.
Here's what 247 said about Shoop
BOB SHOOP
Defensive coordinator, safeties coach, Penn State
Shoop is likely the most expensive name on this list, considering he reportedly makes approximately $1 million per year at Penn State, but hes well worth the price. Shoop, who went with boss James Franklin from Vanderbilt to Penn State, is widely regarded as one of the best defensive coordinators at any level of football, and what he does from a schematic perspective wouldnt seem to be a problem for Tennessee. Weve heard a few rumblings that Shoop and his family wouldnt mind moving back to the state of Tennessee, and if things worked out to make this kind of statement hire, few people would likely complain. Many times the most expensive move is the closest thing to a sure-thing move, and thats the case here, in our opinion. No hire is too big too fail, but this would widely be seen as a big-time statement hire. When you look at the defenses Shoop has built at places like William & Mary, Vanderbilt and Penn State under challenging circumstances and extrapolate that into what he could do at a place like Tennessee, you realize why LSU and others have tried to hard to hire him in recent years. And weve heard his name mentioned in connection with Tennessee for several weeks now. And weve heard that interest certainly is mutual.
I see and smell a Dooley/Sunseri mess all over again...I just think we can do better. Maybe I'm wrong...and I trust Butch because this can be a career-making or a career-breaking move for him.
In the end, the story of the game was Houstons defense and how they were able to shut down FSUs running offense and force big turnovers.
We held them to 16 total yards rushing in the entire game, head coach Tom Herman said. But to be great on third down, youve got to be really good on first and second down, and I think the one thing that Coach Orlando and the entire defensive staff do is theyre aggressive on first down and second down.
Yes. He coached good defenses at Yale, Columbia and Vanderbilt. I don't care if he coached at Florida Clown college..... If he is good and interested, talk to him. Get over this he is a X guy or a Y guy. I'd take him over any of the mentioned options right now.... The guy succeeds wherever he has been and that's all that matter..... Not the color shoes and shirt he wore on game day the last few years. Good grief....
... You're kidding, right?
If this post is serious it's like attaching a poster to your head that reads "I know nothing of football". LSU wanted him for 1.5 mil., the Barn was willing to push him up to 2.0 mil. Not only that, but thse guy hasn't had a D rank outside of the top 25 in years-- all this coming with subpar talent/depth.

He was pretty good at Boise and USC, as well. I remember watching much of the USC vs (undefeated, No.2 ranked) Utah game...and that defense played lights out. Pure domination.

Tennessee: Defensive coordinator John Jancek will not return. Sources tell FootballScoop that Butch Jones has been considering a number of candidates. Unclear yet who has best shot; ***but hear it could be someone under the radar.***
