DC Candidates?

Hopefully butch contacted shoop after the FL loss and lined everythibg up for the change at the end of the year. Reason for shoop declining other offers!

Well, I can say that if I'm Cam or JRM and the new DC is not a big time hire with a proven track record that I feel would make me better in my last year then I'm headed to the NFL. I would not want to stay and struggle through a new system from someone that I'm uncertain could help improve my draft grade.

SN: I'm not suggesting that the DC hire be dictated by Cam or JRM. Just stating that IMHO I think we lose Cam and JRM if it's not someone "proven" with defensive "cred".

Unbelievable how much Dooley mind rape still is in effect. You guys let that dude, and the one that hired him, rent WAY TOO much space in your head. It's a New Day.
Nope. Just the side effects of being forced to drink the Dool-Aid....or GTFO, as the Sunshine Pumpers would put it...for 3yrs. :)

I just hope ever who it is , he is not currently coaching a bingo team some place.

That is both under-the-radar and an impressive resume, but nothing close to SEC experience.

He'd be a great fit (from my outsiders perspective). He's known for his tough secondaries (who play man-to-man) and he knows how to get the most out of his talent. I think the man would make a fine SEC DC. Just know his time is limited with him getting up there in age. Now or never.

Honest opinion this was a good call on Butch's part. The play calling for the "D" was horrendous! Do we really need to relive the OU and FL games? For those asking for "Chief" to come back......well it wouldn't be a bad choice but definitely not my first. Those who say he stunk it up at A&M fail to realize he took a "D" that was ranked 102nd to 51st, not bad in a his first year there. I would give anything if we made a run at Bud Foster, he is ripe for the picking with Beamer gone and VA TECH not too far of a drive. Think of the story line for Bristol this year.

That wasn't the point of the comparison.

It kind of is, cause he said why would he (Shoop) leave when he has this great situation? And you said same for Jancek. Well it's not the same if Jancek didn't choose to leave.

Someone on the outside could say why would Jancek leave? His son is on the team, he loves Butch etc. Theanswer would be he didn't choose to leave.

Good first post!

Foster would be an amazing hire. Now would be the time to get him. And yeah talk about a low-down dirty move if we somehow snagged him up. With Shane and Frank Beamer both gone Bud shouldn't have any strong allegiance to the school. :loco:

Janzek is being let go mainly for running "3rd & Chavis" against a bad Florida offense. Why would we want more of the same? He was no better of a DC than Janzek was, while here. Chavis just lucked out that he landed in a hotbed of Louisiana talent, and had a loaded roster to work with every year.

He got exposed (as an average DC) at TAM, this year.
Shut your pirate hooker mouth!!!!
Sorry be waiting to say that to someone on here. I do agree with your statement though

"Another source said Chavis had pursued the defensive coordinator job at South Carolina, his native state, and that his wife had never moved to Baton Rouge from the couple's home in Knoxville, Tenn. But ultimately Texas A&M "threw too much money" at him with a three-year deal at $1.67 million annually and an option on a fourth season, so he chose the Aggies."
Why did John Chavis bolt LSU for Texas A&M? Tigers' lack of offense, sources say | NOLA.com

Chavis's want to be in knoxville, but does butch want him back?

John Chavis?

We probably couldn't afford him now, though.

You are right. There wasn't any lead large enough that he couldn't give away. We suffered through year after year of his infamous prevent and mustang defenses. No need to go to the games or turn the TV on with him as DC. He will give away any lead. We can't afford that.

To be honest, I'd rather go after Wilcox any day of the week, than Chavis. Why? Mainly because he wasn't adverse to recruiting like Chavis is. Chavis seems to think it's beneath him to hit the road and recruit hard. He expects the talent to fall into his lap.

I also think Wilcox is more aggressive than he is.
