DC Candidates?

You know I watched them play Michigan and I was surprised at how terrible their offense was. Their game plan was terrible. They would throw deep almost every other play. I think Franklin is in over his head.

Oh he is definitely in over his head, and a lot of PSU fans are starting to realize it.

a lot of DC jobs open right now. I'm hoping CBJ already has his guy. I can't see UT paying $1m for a DC.

Shoop? Are you kidding me? He is not worth talking about...good grief. A Yale, Columbia and Vandy guy, all football powerhouses? Whose only claim to very, very minor fame is being James Franklin's guy?

This HAS to be a joke, right? :loco:

Probably the best DC right now is the guy at Clemson...and that would be a huge long shot.

... You're kidding, right?

If this post is serious it's like attaching a poster to your head that reads "I know nothing of football". LSU wanted him for 1.5 mil., the Barn was willing to push him up to 2.0 mil. Not only that, but the guy hasn't had a D rank outside of the top 25 in years-- all this coming with subpar talent/depth.

Butch will have to have a DC hired in the next few weeks to try and salvage a horrid recruiting class. We need to finish in the top 10 in recruiting or all our dreams and hopes will be extremely short lived. like no longer than 2017 season if we are lucky.

I know i'm many pages behind but I've got to ask the question, Are You Serious? Since I don't know you and haven't paid attention to many of your posts, i'm not sure. So I had to ask the question?

Well if we're not going to pay $1M per year, you can mark Chavis off the list. He's making $1.6 a year now at A&M.

Here's what 247 said about Shoop

BOB SHOOP
Defensive coordinator, safeties coach, Penn State
Shoop is likely the most expensive name on this list, considering he reportedly makes approximately $1 million per year at Penn State, but he’s well worth the price. Shoop, who went with boss James Franklin from Vanderbilt to Penn State, is widely regarded as one of the best defensive coordinators at any level of football, and what he does from a schematic perspective wouldn’t seem to be a problem for Tennessee. We’ve heard a few rumblings that Shoop and his family wouldn’t mind moving back to the state of Tennessee, and if things worked out to make this kind of statement hire, few people would likely complain. Many times the most expensive move is the closest thing to a sure-thing move, and that’s the case here, in our opinion. No hire is too big too fail, but this would widely be seen as a big-time statement hire. When you look at the defenses Shoop has built at places like William & Mary, Vanderbilt and Penn State under challenging circumstances and extrapolate that into what he could do at a place like Tennessee, you realize why LSU and others have tried to hard to hire him in recent years. And we’ve heard his name mentioned in connection with Tennessee for several weeks now. And we’ve heard that interest certainly is mutual.

I see and smell a Dooley/Sunseri mess all over again...I just think we can do better. Maybe I'm wrong...and I trust Butch because this can be a career-making or a career-breaking move for him.

No comparison to sunset I here, sunset I was a lb coach, not a DC with a proven track record. Nowhere even close to a similar situation

Orlando is the best choice.

Good article:

Houston?s defense crucial to Peach Bowl win | UWire

In the end, the story of the game was Houston’s defense and how they were able to shut down FSU’s running offense and force big turnovers.

“We held them to 16 total yards rushing in the entire game,” head coach Tom Herman said. “But to be great on third down, you’ve got to be really good on first and second down, and I think the one thing that Coach Orlando and the entire defensive staff do is they’re aggressive on first down and second down.”

Yes. He coached good defenses at Yale, Columbia and Vanderbilt. I don't care if he coached at Florida Clown college..... If he is good and interested, talk to him. Get over this he is a X guy or a Y guy. I'd take him over any of the mentioned options right now.... The guy succeeds wherever he has been and that's all that matter..... Not the color shoes and shirt he wore on game day the last few years. Good grief....

Check back on similar comments made about Dooley and Sal Sunseri. If he comes, I do pray you're right and I'm wrong.

Checking recruiting skills, connections with UT or Butch and came up with:
Chavis, Kacy Rodgers, Dale Jones, Mike Elston, Tony Hughes, Kerry Coombs, and Chris Rumph that all have defensive coaching experience. Butch likes peopl he has worked with and trusts. Need recruiting skills. Stripling is one of the better recruiters. Maybe hire and shift some folks around. It has taken Deboard some time to impact, hope new DC is an improvement and quick to excel. Not sold on Shroop yet.

I have a hard time believing that AU would offer any coordinator 2 million but you never know. But one would have to assume that the other coordinator and assistant coaches would demand raises which would put the final price tag for him at probably 4-5 million including a buyout.

Butchna, I should have never come over here. Please, take me back home before I'm forever warped by this place.

It makes you tough! Like drinking water out the tap in Mexico. :aggressive:

There is no "think".

It is like you went to a petting zoo, picked up a goat, and then said you were taking that giraffe home with you.

It is like you went to a UT home football game and started screaming at people for not wearing our color, Crimson.

It is like you said while Bray was here that he had all the pocket presents and wasn't a pre Madonna.

Asinine.

Per footballscoop.com

Tennessee: Defensive coordinator John Jancek will not return. Sources tell FootballScoop that Butch Jones has been considering a number of candidates. Unclear yet who has best shot; ***but hear it could be someone under the radar.***

Hide yo kids.
Hide yo D-backs.
Hide yo walk-ons too.
They rapin' everybody up in here.

you think he'd leave unc? They could be on the verge of a decent run in chapel hill....and there are many here thinking he may get another nod at a hc position, not sure a lateral move is in the works for him?

dont ever consider moving from unc to tennessee a lateral move! Ever, ****ing ever!

He was pretty good at Boise and USC, as well. I remember watching much of the USC vs (undefeated, No.2 ranked) Utah game...and that defense played lights out. Pure domination.

He did not like here a few years ago. Seems he missed the West coast. I doubt he is interested.

Booooooo I think we need a splash here and I'm rarely the guy that looks for a flashy hire. With the direction we're trending in next year and the players we're pushing for we need a spark

I'm pretty sure that whoever our next DC is, he's already been hired. You don't fire someone and then go looking, you go looking and then fire someone to make room.

My guess is the lawyers are hammering out the details of the contract now and they are giving lip service about interviewing "potential" candidates.
