Current O-Line=bad fit?

I personally think it's the RB. I would Luke to see more Q Watson and wish Alden Hill was ready to go. A big bruiser and a one cut, hit the hole speedster.

You nailed the diagnosis. RBs ain't talented

People want to win and most of our fans long for the way we used to maul teams whether they liked it or not.

We've been fed "the only way to win" mantras so long that it's taken as gospel. No room for anything unique or different.

i remember well, when Fulmer and company mauled teams and i do have to say i loved it lol but there was a lot of air attack involved too,UT needs a better balance these days

Why do we want to run Alabama's offense? Do they have Bray, CP, and Hunter?

Because a great running game and stout D is the tried and true formula for winning championships.

Yea, why would we want to win championships like Bama. Crazy, huh?

The OL doesn't come off of the ball quick enough to be effective run blockers, and the RB's don't have enough vision to get through the limited amount of holes the OL does open up. Still though, we have enough quickness to run it better, but OL is built more for pass protection, versus being road graders for the running game.

Anyone who says our run game isn't better than last year is ignorant. We are what we are. A pass first team. We will run enough to keep teams honest. That is all we need.

We may need more. Wait till we play a really physical team. We will need the ability to wear down defenses and keep them on the field....that won't happen with some of these elite teams we play. Look at our time of possession this game...GSU was on the field much longer than us. Just a concern for the REAL football we are about to face.

That said, I still think we beat UF by 2 TDs.

Do what you do best.

That's the best offensive philosophy you will ever hear. So if what we do best is throwing the football, then why should we keep pounding our heads into a brick wall trying to run the ball?

All we have to do is run the ball well enough to keep people honest, so far we have done that.

I partly agree, if we want to compete for NC from the SEC, we are going to have to run the ball vs teams like georgia/florida and alabama/LSU. Our passing attack is capable enough to make us competitive.

Whatever bro, we are sitting right where we were before the UF game last year.
Against a real D-line our O-line is going to struggle.
We can only live on the big play so long...

There is no whatever to it. You said the run game looks no better than last year. That's not close to correct. We are knocking more guys off the ball and there are holes. It's just not our strength and we are short on rb talent as far as instinct and agility.

i do have to agree with you ,Orange Dog,the run game is improved

We scored at will 2 straight weeks. Can't we be happy for a day? Florida will not be better on offense than us. :cray:

No they won't...

I am ecstatic. We have shown so much improvement. It's exciting. Just pointing out our weaknesses. Running game is our Achille's heal along with our kicking game.

Dooley has turned the team around for sure. I am proud of what he has done.

You nailed it OP and volnpowell. It is a straight zone blocking scheme - no sprint draw features now except when they are in the pistol. Been explaining it for over a year. Fulton, James and Thomas are a step slow. Tiny is quick enough, just inexperienced. Stone is the quickest and very capable. They have even gone to the inside gaps trap block with the guards instead of the counter trey stuff they used to run because they lack quickness getting to the zones in time to create room for the RB. The other side to that is big guys with some athleticism can be great pass blockers - which is exactly what they have. With the great WRs we have - not a bad thing IMO.

Look at who they have recruited for the O-line previously and with the upcoming classes to see where they are going. I think you will see a significant difference and more of a modern version of our lines of the 90s.

They are making do with the current RBs. They do not yet have the all purpose backs they need (D-Green are you listening?). So they send in each one to run what they are capable of and try to run them in other formations/plays for experience when they get the opportunity like today. Example - DY running inside repeatedly today. Trying to get him used to it while finding a style and the plays that work for his size and skillset.

I could not be happier with what I see out of the coaching staff this season. This is just some of what Dooley and Saban call "the process."

I thought they said they would do more man on man blocking, maybe they are saving that and using Rivera more for Florida.:crossfingers:

I hope. But I thought they would have noticed it after the NC State game. But they didn't.

What did the need to do? Play one dimensionally and sacrifice experience and game day evaluation. When we ran from the I with the ones we slayed.

Smash mouth. There is a talent gap. We have as good of a QB and WR in the country. We need that third ingredient...a couple of stud RBs.

We will see what happens. I hope they can hold up, but in the sec you win with the running game and a strong defense.

One of our backs needs to step up to the plate and take the job.

your name says it all,Sal and company better step it up,i believe the O will be all right, they will put points on the score board, what i wonder about is controlling the clock,to give the D a rest

In the two and a half quarters are first string played, we rushed for 142 yards on 29 carries. That was with Bray throwing for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns. We couldn't put up stats like that versus Montana or Cincinnati in 4 quarters. We looked good today, and for the first time since Dooley has got here, our backs are actually pushing forward and breaking tackles. I know that Florida is not given, but I think we will be able to run on them. Texas A&M ran pretty well against them today, and I don't see any reason why we can't put up a decent running game.

Is zone blocking you have 2 men blocking 1 man. What makes you guys think we would do so much better with 1 man blocking 1 man?
